Rapper Mystikal is in hot waters as he’s been held without bail until trial over accusations of beating, raping, and robbing a woman during a financial dispute at his home in suburban Baton Rouge.
According to The Advocate;
Mystikal, a New Orleans-raised rapper accused of beating, raping and robbing a woman during a financial dispute at his home in suburban Baton Rouge, must await trial in the Ascension Parish jail after a judge refused Tuesday to grant him bail.
The rapper, whose given name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, is accused of attacking a woman in an erratic and violent encounter Saturday night in Prairieville during which he took her car keys and held the woman against her will and, at one point, prayed with her to remove her “bad spirits,” according to an arrest warrant.
Tyler, 51, of Prairieville, was booked Sunday afternoon on first-degree rape, simple robbery, felony domestic abuse battery by strangulation and two other counts in Ascension, sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies have since added five drug counts after a search of his home.
Maughan also pointed out that a sheriff’s detective acknowledged in testimony Tuesday that Tyler’s accuser had been in a longstanding relationship with him at least since the late 1990s and he had never before been accused of attacking her.
Under questioning from prosecutor Kenneth Dupaty, Keith explained that the woman had gone to Tyler’s home around 8 p.m. Saturday to talk about his past financial commitments to her and that the conversation seemed to go fine until he went to the bathroom and his demeanor changed markedly.
Keith said Tyler began accusing the woman of stealing cash and repeatedly beat, choked and pulled out her hair but also later apologized for his actions. He prayed with her and threw rubbing alcohol on her to cleanse her “bad spirits” before he raped her.
Keith said deputies later found some hair braids from the woman, an earring and a broken nail in Tyler’s home. The woman also had lots of bruises and cuts.
In cross examination of the detective, Maughan sought to portray Tyler’s apology and prayer session, which happened at his bed with the woman on her knees, as an indication the dispute had calmed and that the woman was no longer in fear of his client before the alleged rape occurred.
But, later, Keith told prosecutors that the woman didn’t hear what Tyler had been praying about and was only “praying for her safety.”
