Ana de Armas
A potential first-time host, de Armas will be in the midst of a promotional tour for Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde.

Tom Cruise has a need, a need for speed — and what better thrill ride than 90 minutes of live sketch comedy?
The Top Gun: Maverick star has been making movies almost as long as Saturday Night Live has been on the air. Yet, in the series’ 47-year history, Cruise has not made a single appearance. That could — and, we predict, will — change this fall, when NBC‘s flagship late-night series kicks off Season 48.
According to TVLine’s trusty crystal ball, several first-time hosts will grace Studio 8H in the coming months, including Star Wars vet Diego Luna (who is headlining Rogue One prequel Andor for Disney+), Ted Lasso‘s Hannah Waddingham (who will be appearing in the highly anticipated Hocus Pocus 2) and The Flight Attendant‘s Kaley Cuoco (who, let’s be real, would have been more than ready for the gig during any point in The Big Bang Theory‘s 12-season run).
Scroll down to see who else might host SNL this fall — a Season 48 premiere date remains TBA — then hit the comments with your top picks.
A potential first-time host, de Armas will be in the midst of a promotional tour for Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde.
Hot off summer’s biggest show, the Stranger Things star will be making the rounds for another Netflix project, Enola Holmes 2.
The big-screen Elvis impersonator got his start in comedy, appearing in kid-friendly sitcoms like Hannah Montana, iCarly, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide and Zoey 101.
It’s hard to believe the Top Gun: Maverick star has never hosted SNL — but we’re certain he’ll be coming in for a landing this fall.
We’ll save you another aviation pun and just say that the Flight Attendant star is bound to make her Studio 8H debut in support of Peacock rom-com Meet Cute (co-starring recently departed SNL cast member Pete Davidson).
For a dollar: Who made his on-screen debut as an SNL extra when he was just 13 years old? That’d be the Billy on the Street host, whose star is only rising with the release of the major motion picture Bros.
The Artist Also Known as Childish Gambino made quite the first impression when he hosted during Season 43. With the release of Atlanta‘s fourth and final season, the actor/rapper is due for an encore.
The Confess, Fletch star is still two hosting stints away from joining the coveted Five-Timers’ Club. Now’s as good a time as ever to bring him one step closer.
Andor‘s recent delay — its initial Aug. 31 premiere was pushed to Sept. 21 — means the Star Wars vet will still be in full promo mode for the Rogue One prequel when Season 48 gets underway.
Palmer is having a bit of a moment right now, in part due to her acclaimed turn in Jordan Peele’s Nope. It helps that she’s already in the NBC family, thanks to her primetime gig as host of this summer’s Password revival.
It’s hard to believe, but Parker’s first (and only) SNL hosting stint predates Sex and the City, having last served as master of ceremonies in support of 1994’s Ed Wood. Surely she’ll be back for Hocus Pocus 2.
When the Don’t Worry Darling star makes her inevitable debut, we’ll need Chloe Fineman to appear in character as Meryl Streep, just so she can introduce “Florence Pugh!“
He’s already proven himself a reliable host and musical guest, most recently pulling double duty during Season 46. With two movies releasing this fall — Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman — it’s not a matter of if he’ll be back, but when and how soon.
We can think of no better way to make the Emmy-winning Ted Lasso (and Hocus Pocus 2) star feel like she’s been “struck by f–king lightning” than to let her host and watch her shine.
Yeoh most recently dazzled movie goers in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and will soon appear in both The School for Good and Evil and Avatar: The Way of Water. Suffice it to say, this is her year, and the perfect time to have the industry veteran host.
Don’t know if she’s ever been asked to, or turned it down if she was, but I think it would great if Viola Davis hosted. She’s known for her intense dramatic work, would be interesting to see her comedic side. She’s been a hoot on some of her talk show appearances.
That would be an excellent choice!
C’mon…Rhea Seehorn.
Yawn
Don’t let the bedbugs bite!
@Chris
She’ll sleep good, and so will I. But I’ll lull myself to sleep reflecting back on when SNL was actually funny (up until the 90s)
Black Adam releases Oct 21. I would be stunned if Dwayne Johnson doesn’t get his 6th shot at the monologue.
We all know Kohn Mulaney is going to come back at some point this season

It’s always hard to predict who’s going to be a good host. Some celebs end up being surprisingly great at this kind of thing, while others are stiff and uncomfortable. (Of course, it makes a big difference if the writers can provide them with the right material.) I can definitely see Hamm, Palmer, and Eichner doing well. Tom Cruise would be either fantastic or awful. Not sure about the others.
Tom Cruise’s well-documented intensity and perfectionism does not seem like a good fit for the grind of a chaotic week at SNL, especially when they’ll want to revisit a lot of his classic roles.
I agree.
Yvonne Strahovski and/or Elisabeth Moss.
Season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale is starting soon.
Jon Hamm always Jon Hamm.
Pedro Pascal. Aaron Paul. Tessa Thompson. Bob Odenkirk. Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Rhea Seehorn. Evan Peters. John Boyega. Nick Offerman. Kristen Bell. Olivia Colman. Hailee Steinfeld. Walton Goggins. Helena Bonham Carter. Kurt Russell. Stephen Root. Charlie Hunnam. Sarah Paulson. Henry Cavill. Michael Pena.
Just to name a few.
The only reason I might ever watch a segment of SNL again is if John Hamm hosted!
HUGE nix on Tom Cruise and Sara Jessica Parker.
Kaley Cuocu should be season premier host.
Juno Temple and Brett Goldstein would be excellent choices as well.
odd on favorite – one of these folks will host this season…but not Tom Cruse…
Katie Holmes had to escape Cruise in the middle of the night with the kids because of his nasty terror but no one cancels him
If you’re interested in flight attendants living double lives, best read Beyond Enkription, the only novel to be published to date in TheBurlingtonFiles fact based espionage series by Bill Fairclough. Look out for Vivienne Templeton who in real life was not only what was then described as an air hostess in Haiti Air Inter but also a CIA operative in Haiti and the Caribbean.
Vivienne was based in Fort Lauderdale working under the cover of being an air hostess who moonlighted by managing holiday lets in the Bahamas and Florida. The Burlington Files series is based on the gripping true story of a genuine spook, Bill Fairclough aka Edward Burlington whose MI6 codename in real life was JJ. Critics herald it to be just the stuff epic films are made of.
Coincidentally Kaley Cuoco who stars in the Flight Attendant actually looks a lot like the real life flight attendant/CIA asset Vivienne Templeton who featured in Bill Fairclough’s spy novels in The Burlington Files series. See TheBurlingtonFiles + Everipedia websites for photos of Vivienne in the seventies. Beyond Enkription is a must read for espionage illuminati.
Lindsay Lohan is ONE hosting stint away from joining the 5 Timers club!! This fall is her big acting return on Netflix, it’s “just” a Christmas romcom but SNL has always loved Lindsay and she always drew a lot of attention so she’ll hopefully be back!!
