OUR EVENTS

SPGC Global Family Business Summit 2023

We hosted the first "SPGC Global Family Business Summit" with our affiliate Cátedra de Empresa Familiar de la Universitat de València in Valencia, Spain from April 26-28th. The summit was a unique platform that brought together top leaders from business families with some of the most prominent family business researchers and advisers shaping the future of family businesses. The three days were a complete package of knowledge exchange, opportunities, networking, and fun! We had over 200 attendees and 100 academic paper submissions. Special thanks to Alejandro Escribá-Esteve and his remarkable team for making this event a great success! We would also like to thank all our sponsors and attendees who made this summit a massive success.

SPGC CONVERSATION SERIES
  • We held the first SPGC Conversation Series of the year in association with our affiliate Audencia, on April 05, 2023. Professors Natalia Vershinina, Vincent Lefebvre, Dimo Dimov, and Miruna Radu-Lefebvre discussed 'The Great Expectations: Growth and Family Business Succession".
  • The second conversation series was co-hosted with our affiliation SPJIMR (SP Jain Instiute of Management Research), India on October 11, 2023. Professors Alfredo De Massis, Harsh Mariwala, and Tulsi Jayakumar discussed 'Responsible Innovation Among Family Businesses'.
  • Stay tuned for the upcoming conversation series on Thursday, February 08, 2024 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM (Paris Time) where we will discuss ‘Internationalization of Family Firms’ with keynote speakers, Tanja Leppäaho and Sarah Jack, Andrea Calabrò, and Tulsi Jayakumar as moderator.

American University of Sharjah (AUS)

The 6th International Family Business Research Forum (IFBRF) was successfully hosted by hosted by Rodrigo Basco, Hanoof Abokhodair, Arpita Vyas, and Andrea Calabrò at AUS in the UAE on October 24-26, 2023, successfully gathered 70 attendees including academics, practicitoners, and policymakers.

Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)

The CUHK Centre for Family Business released the whitepaper with UBS titled “Boundaryless Success: Careers within Asia’s next generation” speaks of the importance of embracing venturing to drive both career advancement and satisfaction. Steering away from the dilemma of "to join or not to join the family business", the whitepaper explores different distinctive paths rising generation can take - and how they can make a difference there. Also first of the kind is the analysis of family office career - early family venturers and career family officers. Download the White Paper.

Dublin City University (DCU)

DCU’s National Centre for Family Business (NCFB) marks a decade with the report '10 Years at the Forefront of Family Business Research in Ireland, 2013 - 2023'. Dr. Eric Clinton, NCFB Director, underscores the vital role of Irish family businesses in the economy. The report outlines NCFB's growth, emphasizing research, education, and engagement. The achievements of the past decade set the stage for a promising future. Read the report.

ESCP Business School
Chiara Succi at ESCP Business School, Turin hosted a dynamic networking event featuring special speakers Simone Marino, Head of Blue Factory Italy, and Prof. Andrea Calabrò from IPAG Business School. Discussions centered around next-gen succession, innovation in tradition, and internationalization & sustainability.

In a recent publication by the esteemed SPGC community member, Prof. Pramodita (Dita) Sharma affiliate team leader from the University of Vermont contributed with an article titled 'Stakeholder Pressures and Decarbonization Strategies in Mittelstand Firms,' published in the Journal of Business Ethics, co-authored by Joern Block.
Witten/Herdecke University

Thomas Clauß (Witten/Herdecke University) along with his colleagues Drik Lüttgens (RWTH Aachen) and Marcel Hülsbeck (Hochschule München) is organizing a track on "Innovation Dilemmas for SMEs and Family Businesses: Navigating the New Platform Economy" at the upcoming R&D Management Conference in Stockholm from June 15-19, 2024.
