Julian Miles Holland, better known as Jools Holland, has kept us all entertained with his music and his popular New Year's Eve annual Hootenanny show, as well as his fun personality. Jools became famous after starting his career as a session musician and he was a founding member of the British pop band Squeeze.

With his musical background, the BBC star, 66, has given a platform to loads of talent from Adele, David Bowie and Missy Elliot just to name a few. But his personal life hasn't always been as smooth as his music.

The TV presenter and musician was born in Blackheath, south-east London, in 1958, and he's been a constant fixture on British TV since the 1980s. He co-hosted Channel 4's legendary music show The Tube - a showcase for up-and-coming as well as world-famous acts - alongside Paula Yates from 1982 to 1987.

In 1987, Holland formed the Jools Holland Big Band, which gradually expanded to become the 18-piece Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra of today.

Away from music, most recently Jools shared some personal health news, speaking out about his 2014 prostate cancer battle for the first time in March 2022. The broadcaster spoke openly about his diagnosis that same year.

Jools was unexpectedly diagnosed following a routine blood test and the results came as a shock as he had no symptoms. He shared with PA: "Thankfully I was successfully treated, but if more people were aware of their risk and caught the disease early, then more lives would be saved." He's now fully recovered after his diagnosis.

Jools tied the knot with his long-time love Christabel McEwen in 2005. She's the daughter of artist and musician Rory McEwen. He's a proud dad to four kids including Mabel, Rosie and George. Plus, he has a stepson, Frederick Lambton, Viscount Lambton.

The TV star previously revealed that all his children have a knack for music. He told the Guardian: "All my children are musical. My daughter Rosie does backing vocals for my band and my other two children, Mabel and George, like playing music, although not professionally."
