International Evaluation Requirement

If you have attended a secondary school and/or university outside of the United States, regardless of your citizenship, you must have an international credential evaluation completed; this is not the same as a transcript. The processing of International Credential Evaluations takes 2-4 weeks. Please allow sufficient time for processing as the evaluation must be received by the University of Miami by the application deadline of your admission plan. 

International Credential Evaluations must contain the following:

1. course by course evaluation
2. a grade point average calculation

A high school official or testing center must submit your official documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.) directly to the evaluation provider.

The evaluations must be sent to the University of Miami directly from the services listed below. Provisional evaluations are not accepted. Please note that the University cannot accept evaluations directly from counselors.

• Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE)
• International Education Evaluations (IEE)
• Josef Silny & Associates, Inc.
• SpanTran
  • You must specifically request the University of Miami as the institution of receipt on SpanTran's "Contact Information" page to ensure authentication.
  • Do not list UM as an Additional Email Address for Delivery when placing a request with SpanTran. This may result in an unverifiable document and delay your application process.
• World Education Services (WES)
  • Only for Transfer applicants who are having their post-secondary (university) transcripts evaluated, as WES does not provide course by course evaluations for secondary studies.
• Another approved member of NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services).

If you meet any of the following criteria, your international evaluation can be waived: 

First-Year applicants:

• Attended at least three years (including the graduation year) at an accredited U.S. high school abroad
• Attended only grade 9 at a foreign school and graduating with a U.S. diploma after completing grades 10, 11, and 12 in a U.S. high school 
• Graduating from an International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum abroad
• Graduating with a Cambridge AICE Diploma
• Pursuing 3-4 Cambridge/AQA/Pearson/EdExcel A-level courses and have obtained IGCSE results
• Attended at least three years at a high school
  
  • in the United Kingdom or Turkey
  • in Canada, except Quebec
  • in the Caribbean (CXC) earning a CAPE Certificate, except students in a Dutch, French, and/or Dominican educational system
• Following the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC)
• Received official results for the follwing exams
  • West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)*
  • National Examination Council (NECO)*
  • Cameroon General Certificate of Education Advanced Level
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
  • Rwanda Advanced Certificate of Education

*Must submit scratch card and PIN information

Transfer applicants:

• Transferring from
  • an American university abroad
  • a university in Canada, except Quebec

If you meet any of the criteria listed above, the following items must be submitted to waive the international evaluation. Even if you meet criteria for a high school waiver, an international evaluation still needs to be completed for your university trancript. 

• The International Evaluation Waiver Request Form located in your Applicant Portal
• Your official transcript(s) and examination results (if applicable) directly from your high school or the testing center

Note: Your school official should submit your official documents electronically via the Common Application, Slate.org, SCOIR, or Parchment. They can also be emailed directly from your school official to mydocuments@miami.edu.
