France Supports Kosovo's Visa Liberalization

Official sources of the European Union have denied the information that France conditions the liberalization of visas for the citizens of Kosovo.

According to these sources, France is in favor of the liberalization of visas for Kosovo, as are other member countries of the European Union.

"It turns out that currently there is no member state of the European Union against the liberalization of visas for Kosovo", stated the official EU sources for the Albanian media.

According to them, the misunderstanding is related to the modalities that need to be discussed further in the working group for visas of the Council of the European Union in the framework of the decision on the liberalization of visas with third countries and specifically with Kosovo.

These sources have explained that it is not only about France, but about several member states, which require the inclusion of the ETIAS system in the visa liberalization process.

"The same procedure was followed for Kuwait and Qatar, so it is not a specific issue related to Kosovo, since the ETIAS system comes into force next year", underlined the sources.

The ETIAS system is the European Travel Information and Authorization System. It is a completely electronic system that allows and maintains the data of visitors from countries that do not need a visa to enter the Schengen Area and beyond.

A little while ago, the Czech presidency shared a statement, which states that the first meeting to discuss visa liberalization for Kosovo has confirmed broad support among the member states, but clarifications are required on some topics and further discussions are needed.
