Adaline Winters

Adaline Winters is a former criminal intelligence analyst and current high school teacher, who teaches sulky teenagers the joy of math… In return they gift her with endless sarcasm and witty banter that makes her smile.

She lives with her husband, teenage daughter and three guinea pigs, in the not so sunny but scenic, Lake District, England.

Adaline began writing following a diagnosis with a life altering disease and brain surgery. Writing became a way of expressing and channeling the pain and frustration into something tangible, and the characters running around her healing brain leapt from mind to paper.

When she’s not writing, you can find her failing to grow tomatoes or reading anything fantasy based - particularly books with strong heroines who drive alpha males insane.

This book is straight up plagiarism. Not an original plot or idea at all. She might as well have copied Fighting Destiny from Amelia Hutchins word for word. The small changes she made in no way represent a unique body of work. This is shameful. She’s a thief.

PLAGIARISM much? Pretty sure this is a book already published in 2013 by Amelia Hutchins- Fighting Destiny with a dash of Legacy of the 9 Realms. NOT COOL

Um.. this is too close to another series

What in the fighting destiny with a dash of the nine realms is this?

This is fighting destiny by amelia hutchins, just some details/scenery has changed.

But the main characters ARE syn and ryder..

Seriously, pick up a sample of fighting destiny and you will instantly be reading 90% of the same thing..

This is.. it makes me uncomfortable that as I'm reading, all I'm think of is alot has been copied from another book.

disappointing

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed the blatant apparent similarity to the Queen of writing about Fae. Down to the “effing fairy” banter. Has no one else noticed this book is wayyyy to similar to The Fae Chronicles. I won’t be reading more from this author because of that distinct fact. Maybe if it came close to a smidgen of her brilliance I might. Alas, nope.

I mean if you are a fan girl just say that. It's not ok to just copy multiple ideas and put them in a book then try to play the victim. SMH. Think before you act. Especially if what you are doing and saying directly correlates to a beloved author.

I think I am becoming more and more picky about what I read. These books with the same tropes and basic story lines are starting to get old. I enjoy this genre, but I find myself continually underwhelmed by the end.

First off, props that this book does have some notes of originality to it. It has a bit of a sci-fi/dystopian flare. But honestly, that’s where the originality ends for me.

It has the same old male/female best friends in which the side character is secretly in love with the main character.

It has the same idea of fae courts (spring, summer, winter, autumn) as so many other similar fantasy romance books. The power struggle between the FMC and MMC is eye-rolling. She literally hates him through the whole book (other than the weird sexual tension they have 🤦🏼‍♀️) but as soon as he sends her away she acts like she is heartbroken and so deceived. Girl please! You have hated him the whole book now and constantly pointed out his evil flaws and how you can’t trust him. Don’t even start…… your internal dialogue says something different!

The ending has the typical cliffhanger where one character is going to tear the world apart to save the other…. Blah blah blah.

Wanted: Original writing and ideas, please!

Sorry, this is just my opinion. Sorry it seems so unpopular.

This was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as previous series I read by this author, which was the best new Urban Fantasy I had read in a while.

I think the main issue with this book was the fact that it was very same-y. Luna and Adriel spent the whole book fighting or flirting, which was fine, but it didn't really change.

I also found Luna slightly annoying. Yes, she does some bad ass things, but her inner monologue bordered on a sort of arrogant obnoxiousness at times, especially considering the amount of times she was kidnapped or fatally injured and needed healing in this book.

However, I enjoyed the book on the whole and will deidnitely read the next one.

Where to begin... okay, We Shall Not Bow left me speechless. To say We Shall Not Bow is my new favorite dark paranormal romance is an understatement!

"She’s a silent storm with a wolf’s heart and a lion’s courage." ~ Adriel.

I absolutely LOVE the two main characters, Luna (little wolf) and Adriel!! Of course they're enemies from the very beginning but end up having to work together to take down The Shadow King. Luna is a human and Adriel a High Fae, they're on different sides of the war yet when Luna is forced to help Adriel as his prisoner, the lines start to blur and Luna begins to wonder who the real enemy is. I loved the world building in this book. The author describes Earth and the world of Faery so beautifully, making it me feel as if I was in the book seeing everything instead of reading the book. I also absolutely loved all the supporting characters, especially Adriel's 3 best friends/bodyguards. Now let's talk about the spice in this book... hot is an understatement! I couldn't help but blush when reading the spicey scenes!! 🥵🥵 Fair warning: One may experience blushing and warmth begin to spread throughout their body. You will have to take a cold shower after reading the smutty scenes. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!😉🤣

This book had everything. Adaline Winters, We Shall Not Bow, has become my favorite fae book!!! I was completely floored by the cliffhanger.... I'm not sure how I'm going to wait for book two.

10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Thank you @adalinewinters for gifting me a copy of your book for an honest review.

4 ⭐ Steam: 3/5 Strong Language: 3/5 Characters: 4.5/5 Plot: 4/5

Luna is a legendary resistance fighter living in a dystopian version of Earth where the Fae have taken over & decimated the human population, enslaving those who remain. She and a few others do what they can to disrupt the Fae's ongoing plans to make the planet more hospitable for the entire fairy population. On one such mission, Luna is captured by a foe she cannot defeat. She has to use her other special gifts, ones that only manifested when the Fae arrived, to survive the ordeal.

Adriel, a member of the high Fae, is intrigued by Luna immediately. He can sense there is something special and unique about her. She is the complete opposite of everything he desires and yet he is inexplicably drawn to her. Even though the two are opposites in every way, fighting on opposing sides of a conflict, butting heads at every turn, yet sparks fly when they are near.

When alliances are shattered, lies uncovered, truths revealed, and traitors are unmasked, who will these two be able to rely on? Sometimes a friend is not who they seem and an enemy can become an ally. Should you listen to your head or heart?

This was an exciting fantasy romance. It is a slow burn but the chemistry between our enemies to lovers pair is scorching. The book does end on a cliffhanger. You've been warned. Please don't let that stop you from reading this delightful tale.

Plagiarism. Amelia Hutchins Fighting Destiny. Not cool, Adaline Winters.

I'm not sure if you thought Amelia wouldn't notice while she's planning a funeral for her daughter-in-law or what. But her fan base will notice.

WHAT A BOOK OMG

First it was VERY well written. The author did an amazing job creating such an amazing world and characters.

Luna is such a badass I love her sm. She was such a fighter, she was loyal, funny and just such an amazing strong character.
Adriel is mine and mines only (luna would definitely kick my ass so let me stop)

The chemistry between them was unbelievable. What I loved is that they never stopped fighting each other, which made their banter and chemistry that much more intense. They challenge each other like no one else can.

The story itself was really good and easy to follow. It took a couple of unexpected turns that left me shocked. This book is gonna have you at the edge of ur sear begging for more. It does end in a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next one!!

Luna may not bow, but I’d gladly bow down to Ms Winters; this book and these characters are her best yet. An extraordinary tale, filled with a lot of sass & snark, a fierce leading lady, a Fae Prince that will have you checking that your toys are operational, and a storyline that completely captures your thoughts and all of your attention. If I could make one point clear, it’s that you need to read this book, it’ll whisk you away from reality and refuse to let go until the very last page. Days after finishing and this book, this ending are still on my mind. The cliffhanger left me screaming (no kindles/paperbacks were harmed but it was a very close call).

Luna is incredible, she’s everything I love in a FMC, sassy, relatable, strong and she just feels real. The chemistry between Luna and Adriel is of the most intense kind, definitely one of the best written couples that I’ve ever read. From sarcastic responses to sparring to the bedroom scenes, Luna and Adriel are scorching hot; leaving you to need breaks with said toys^^^. The side characters I want for myself, I’ve added Adriel and his friends to my long list of book boyfriends and I’m already praying for their books and that they end up with a lady called Shauni (haha).

The way that Adaline Winters has crafted We Shall Not Bow, it grips and tugs on your heartstrings leaving you a big ball of mixed emotions. I’ve cried, with my heart breaking multiple times, I’ve screamed then as more was revealed I cried again, I’ve laughed and fallen in love with this world. My mind is spinning with the possibilities and I’ve got a feeling it’ll be like this for a long time. The book hangover is real. This is one of the best books that I have ever read, and I highly recommend it for all romance readers.

There are SO many parallels to the first book in Amelia Hutchins' Fae Chronicle series that this felt like reading fanfiction. To the point that I started writing them down. It's not a big issue, but I do like to know when a book is heavily influenced. Maybe it wasn't purposeful, but it was obvious. Some things Adriel thought and said were nearly identical to Ryder's.
Objectively, this is a decent book. There are some really original elements that I liked and haven't seen in books regarding fae before. That's super refreshing.
I also really liked Luna's friendship w/Ker. Although, as far as relationships go, the relationship between Luna and Adriel needed a touch more depth. I found myself not really caring about them as a couple due to a lack of an emotional connection. I also felt like I'd seen this exact couple before already. There's room for growth though and I will be picking up the next book when it comes out next month. We'll see.

Originally published this review Aug 12, 2023 before anyone "confirmed" plagiarism and I had not seen the other people mention Amelia Hutchins. I just read about it today 12.21.23. Was totally wondering why the next book wasn't out yet... Part of me feels like plagiarism is thrown around too much for things that were inspired by other books and this feels more "inspired" than plagiarism. Plagiarism would be word for word copying. The Fae Chronicles, especially the first book is pretty much fanfic of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series so I feel weird judging it for that.

Oh My Goodness

This Spicy Fae Fantastic story is freaking AMAZING!!! Oh my! I can’t read this fast enough! Luna is pretty amazing and Adriel HAF, he really is. This is a real enemies to lovers, with all the love, passion and hating. I loved all the magic and the world building in this story. Luna is really a powerful FMC and Adriel *sigh* the perfect bad boy. The twist and turns are out of this world! I’m dying here, I need book 2 ASAP please.

The kingdoms of the Fae

I liked this first book. It had a few twists that I did not expect, and Luna was no weak willed women who needed protection. She had secrets of her own, and she held her own with Adriel and the Fae. I am looking forward to the next book as this one ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. Betrayal is everywhere, and the only person Luna can trust is herself as everyone lets her down. I want to see her get her retribution.

I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. Such a fun dynamic fantasy world with great MCs and side characters. I love these types of books though. The powerful, strong and sweet, innocent h and the dark, sexy, possessive menace of an H. Just such a delicious combo. So many excellent damsel in distress moments too. I can’t wait for the next book!

I loved every second of this book and cannot wait for the next!

Luna is such a strong, confident woman. She has strong convictions and is not afraid to fight and sacrifice for her beliefs. Adriel doesn’t always know how to handle her, as she is the furthest away from submissive as possible, and I love this dynamic. People keep underestimating her and I feel like this is going to come back and bite them and I will relish in reading about it.

Adaline Winters you have done it again, this book is EVERYTHING!! 🖤 I haven’t been this gripped to a story in so long!! I NEED MORE!!
That ending is not ok!! 😩😩🥺🥺 Seriously, how could you leave your devoted fans on a cliff hanger like that?! 😂 Major book hangover right now….

This book does not hang around, oh my actual god. It keeps you on the edge of your seat from page one till the very end. I know i say that about a lot of books but FML I was transfixed!! Luna is one of my all time favourite FMC’s. she is everything I love. She never wavers from being this fierce, badass, loyal, hilarious character who trusts so much in her beliefs you can’t help but route for her! She is fiercely protective of her kind and will stop at nothing to protect them. And most of all, she will not bow down to no one. I love her 🫶🏻

“Achilles was defeated by a tiny weak spot. Watch out, Adriel. I’ve loaded my catapult and I’m coming for your weak spot.”

Let’s talk about Adriel!! We love to hate him. Well, this is still to be determined.. 😏😂 I totally get how Luna feels. He is the enemy, the dark shadow prince, ohhh so possessive and controlling. BUT. He is also sin incarnate and sex on legs. Poor Luna doesn’t know wether to slit his throat or rip his clothes off 😅 same girl. Same. 🥵🥵

“His taste is divine, like the most decadent chocolate and freshest strawberries.”

There is some serious heattt in this book 🥵 for real, that belt scene though.. and so much more. The tension is out of this world, there is something about forbidden romance that makes things so much more heightened and exciting?! Can’t just be me 🤪.

This book is brilliantly written, the way the world building and characters suck you in is amazing. The storyline is brilliant, the whole way through you’ll think one of the plots is SO obvious but you don’t care as it’s too good. But then BAM what you thought throughout was obvious was false 🥴🤐 still so many questions and I need ANSWERS now!! Pretty please 🙏🏼

Ohhhh and a special shout out to Ker 😍🥰 I adore him so much 🫶🏻

“In your own words, Adriel, buckle up, buttercup. Luna Rose Anderson is here to fuck up the fairy kingdom.” 😜🖤

@adaline I BOW DOWN to you!! 👏🏼👏🏼 up there with my all time favourite The hope Legacy 🫶🏻 imagine Natia & Luna together!! They would be the best of fucking friends and could legit bring the world to their knees together 😂🥰

Review originally posted on my blog, Chasing Chapters.

“I’m confused. Are we fighting or flirting?”

OH, SHIT.

What the heck?!

This cannot be how it ends?!

I need book two ASAP!

Adaline Winter’s new series starter did not disappoint!

We Shall Not Bow is a fast-paced read that’s sure to reel you in from the start. It’s got a sword-wielding FMC who’s as loyal as she is a badass… Luna has sass for days. And two, forbidden romance anyone? This book got spice and I can only hope the author brings even more heat in the next books to come. LOL

Unfortunately, I found some parts to be a bit… predictable. Especially in the beginning. But the last few pages definitely shocked me. It did not go the way I expected it to. Rest assured, I will be on the constant lookout for any news regarding the sequel. Not only will I miss following Luna toward whatever destiny awaits her but I will also miss Adriel, Idris, Ker most especially and even the grumpy Michek. Adriel is my newest Fae book boyfriend, btw. He’s mine. You can’t have him. He would have to do a lot of (heavy) begging in book two, however. I don’t think Luna would settle for anything less. Their bumpy romance is bound to get even more complicated. These two are not great at communication, sadly. What with all the secret-keeping, the prophecies, destiny and fate, and whatnot.

I don’t know what else to say. (I’m horrible at writing reviews.) But just in case it didn’t come across, I loved this book! Go grab a copy asap!

I wonder how many times I can reread this to tide me over before the sequel comes out...

As part of the author’s ARC team, I received an electronic review copy to read and review. Quoted excerpt/s may change in the final print.

I don’t have enough pretty words that would describe the awesomeness of this book. Edge of your seat, wholly engulfing, can’t put it down, and one-hundred percent addictive. I was sad for the first part to end and will be impatiently waiting like a kid at Christmas to get the next part/ HEA for Luna and Adriel. Twists and turns everywhere. The story is action packed, hot, spicy, and full of hilarious sarcasm. Adaline Winters is a new-to-me author, but I will be devouring all the rest of what she writes. Talented, talented, talented. The cover of this book is also breathtaking.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world for humans / but not apocalyptic in any way you could imagine. Luna is part of a revolutionary group of humans that is still fighting to get their world back. She is dedicated, resourceful, and is one of the most successful rebels in slowing down Fae progress. In fact, she has earned the nickname: The Dark Menace. She is not aware that nothing is as it seems until she is captured and let go by the hated, cruel, Prince Adriel. When he captures her, Adriel realizes that there is more to Luna then her smart mouth and wicked body. She has powers that no human should have, and she may be the key to his father’s undoing. When her own people betray her, fate sets her on a path that changes everything she thought she knew, including the fact that she would ever fall in love with the hated Prince.

I loved this book. It captured my attention from the first page and kept it all the way through that k!ller of a cliffhanger ending. There were so many twists! I couldn’t believe it when I reached the final page of the book. I wanted and needed more.

It’s a true enemies-to-lovers romance. The two main characters are sworn enemies. The FMC, Luna, is a human and an important figure in the resistance to the Fae occupation of Earth. The MMC, Adriel, is a Fae prince, one of the invaders. Luna has somehow developed powers that make her essential to the Fae prince’s plans, so he becomes her owner/captor until she serves her purpose.

The sexual tension between the two is high. Luna tries so hard to resist the attraction in the physical realm yet succumbs in the astral plane, where she can walk in her dreams. Prince Adriel has never been attracted to one such as she, yet he cannot resist her pull. The tension builds throughout the book towards an explosive culmination toward the end.

This book was a great blend of fantasy, dystopian science fiction, and romance. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. This book will be going into my “read again” folder.

I recommend this book to fans of ACOTAR.

This past year I've been opening my mind & reading to genres that I haven't normally read, and I have to say, I'm very addicted to books with Fae in them. We Shall Not Bow was a fast paced read that kept me on the edge of my seat cover to cover, and now I'm dying inside for more. Luna is a bada** heroine who I couldn't have loved more, especially with her epic sword wielding self. She's very witty & her sarcasm is on point, plus she can play the long game like a boss. Our MMC, the Prince of Shadows, Adriel, is definitely the one for my girl as they sizzled together. He started out her enemy, but somewhere along the lines, they morphed into amazing together. I honestly never wanted this book to end, especially after that ending, so now I sit here waiting impatiently for more of this addictive world. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

So this wasn't on my planned reads list for this month at all but I needed something to read when I didn't have a book or my kindle and remembered I had this on book funnel and decided to start. Little did I know I would be entranced by this book!

This book is so binge worthey.... Luna is such an amazing bad ass FMC and I love her sarcasm and edgy nature.
Adriel, the "fucking fairy" that keeps getting in her way is sexy, strong and their chemistry together so so hot.
There's so much push and pull between the two you never know if they're going to stay enemies or finally make it enemies to lovers.
Adaline had me right on edge all the way through.
It's super spicy but not overwhelming and just the right amount. The quality of the spice is just 🤌 perfection.
Why the hell did I not read this sooner?
Who knows, I'm an idiot, but I'm so glad I've read it now AND there's book 2 coming soon! I am so damn excited!!!
Wasnt expecting to love this as much as I did but now.... Im obsessed.
Also, Ker.... I love him! I need a bed, ice cream and movie day with him plz.
