After this educational event, attendees should be able to:

Understand the latest advances in the diagnosis, staging and management of urologic cancers.
Incorporate new techniques in robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
Detail the medical and surgical management of lower urinary tract dysfunction.
Describe the imaging evaluation and medical and surgical therapy of urinary stone disease.
Define the assessment and management of male infertility.
Characterize the surgical and medical treatment options for erectile dysfunction.
Examine the latest advances in reconstructive surgery including urethroplasty, fistula repair, and management of other GU injuries/trauma.
Learn how to serve the diverse healthcare needs of our international population in a patient-centered manner.
Learn the latest urologic sub-specialty advances occurring in the past year to augment one’s practice.
Enumerate common urological problems of the elderly and specific considerations for their care.
Understand the challenges and facilitate inclusion and opportunities for underrepresented groups in urology.
Characterize the indications and data for new prostate cancer and bladder cancer imaging modalities.

0925-0940		Urological Society of India (USI) Lecture: How Safe Are We in Present Era of Urological Practice? Lalit Shah, India The field of urology,a specialised branch of medicine focused on management of urinary tract system and male reproductive system, is currently facing significant challenges. One of the main issues is the encroachment and poaching of urological practices by non-urologists. This encroachment occurs when doctors from other specialties, such as general surgeons,paediatric surgeons,surgical oncologists etc start performing urological procedures or managing urological conditions without the specialized training and expertise of urologists. This trend raises serious concerns about the future safety and quality of urological care. Urology is a complex field that requires specialized knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction. Without proper training and experience, non-urologists may not be able to provide the same level of care as urologists, potentially leading to poorer outcomes for patients. In addition to the impact on patient care, the encroachment of urology by non-urologists also has implications for the future of the specialty. If this trend continues unchecked, it could deter medical students from pursuing careers in urology, leading to a shortage of urologists in the future. This shortage could further exacerbate the problem of access to urological care, particularly in underserved areas. To address these challenges, it is essential to protect urology as a super specialty. This includes advocating for the importance of specialized training and expertise in urology, as well as promoting collaboration between urologists and other healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. By protecting urology, we can help ensure that future generations of patients have access to high-quality urological care when they need it most.
