World No.40 Gilas Pilipinas Men (0-2) suffered their second defeat in the group phase of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup Group A against Angola (1-1), 70-80 on Sunday, August 27th, in front of 12,784-crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. [VIDEO]
Angola was down by 7 after the first quarter, 12-19, but they mounted a strong comeback in the second quarter, outscoring Gilas by 24-14 and reclaiming the lead at halftime.
Five Angola players finished with double digits, while Jordan Clarkson was the only Gilas player to reach double digits. Gerson Goncalves led Angola with 17 points, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line, along with 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and a block. Gerson Domingos finished with 15 points, 1 rebound, and a team-high 7 assists.
