Non-destructive Testing Instructor - ALBERTA

Quality Control Council of Canada - National Training Society

Location: Edmonton Training Society Centre 10403 172 St., Edmonton, AB, Canada.

Job Description

The NDT Instructor will provide support to the QCCC National Training Society in the ongoing development and delivery of CGSB NDT Certification courses, practical workshops, refresher courses, recertification and initial training and examinations, and the invigilation of exams.

While training will take place mostly at the QCCC Training Centre in Edmonton, the position does require travel to provide satellite courses/ programs where the Director identifies a need across Canada. The Instructor will work with Contractors, providing services to the QCCC, and with the affiliated Local Unions, to organize and schedule training sessions and encourage the highest usage rate of the facilities and the most efficient use of the Instructors time.

The Instructor is expected to advance the image of the QCCC National Training Centre in the eyes of the Union members, the employers, and the community.

Duties

  • Develop, execute, and maintain training materials for each NDT course and workshop requirement.
  • Work with the Certification Coordinator as necessary to ensure program success.
  • Instruct in both classroom and lab settings.
  • Participate in maintaining all requirements of NRCan regarding NDT training, certification, and recertification.
  • Maintain equipment in proper operating condition and ensure excellent housekeeping of the facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director involving all aspects of the QCCC Training.
  • Monday – Friday 40 hours per week.

Skills and Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the NDT field and familiarity with all sectors of work across Canada.
  • Minimum CGSB Level 2 Certified in MT, PT, and UT (RT, XRF and CEDO would also be an asset). Materials Engineering Technology diploma would be an asset.
  • Previous experience in NDT classroom instruction, examination, and mentoring would be an asset.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with advanced computer skills in MS Office.
  • The ability to work with people in small teams and have the initiative to work independent of supervision.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  • Participate in maintaining all requirements of the Certifying Body regarding NDT training, certification, and recertification.
  • Maintain equipment and testing components and ensure excellent housekeeping of the facilities.
  • Maintain logs of all training and provide weekly reports of names, method, hours, and general comment on success of students.
  • Work to promote the QCCC Ontario Training Center in Eastern Canada.
  • Work with the NTS Recertification Coordinator as necessary to ensure program success.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director involving all aspects of the QCCC Training.

Skills

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the NDT field and familiarity with all sectors of work across Canada.
  • Minimum CGSB Level 2 Certified in UT, MT, and PT (RT and CEDO would also be an asset).
  • Previous experience in classroom instruction, examination, and mentoring would be an asset.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with advanced computer skills in MS Office.
  • The ability to work with people in small teams and have the initiative to work independent of supervision.
  • An outstanding safety record and maintain compliance with the QCCC National Programs.

Term

Full-time position Monday-Friday.

Compensation and Benefits

As per QCCC NTS contract consistent with qualifications. Union Pension, and Health & Welfare Benefit Plan as the instructor will be a member of the UA or IBB.
