Celebrating Independence

The Gift of Inclusion

Earlier this month, as a nation, we celebrated our independence. But what does independence mean to you personally? Having the ability to make choices in your life and choosing where you live. Having opportunities to learn, grow and achieve personal goals. Working and volunteering in ways that are meaningful. Choosing our daily activities and being a member of our larger community. Many of these freedoms are ones we don't think about on a daily basis and may even take for granted.

This summer we are raising funds to support independence, inclusion and freedom for our clients, a mission our staff are truly dedicated to achieve. But we can't do it alone. We need YOU! So far we've raised just under half of our goal. We are grateful for the generosity of our donors who understand the importance of our mission and are linking arms with us to achieve this mission with their gifts. Will you help us reach our goal? You can mail your gift of any amount to our office at 117 11th St NW, Waverly, IA 50677 or give online at www.larrabeecenter.org. Thank you in advance for your continued support!

Client Success Story:

Troy's Employment Journey

If you've been a donor or shopper at our Waverly Trinkets & Togs Thrift Store, you've likely encountered Troy stocking the shelves or helping with donations.

Troy has had the opportunity to work at Trinkets & Togs as part of his employment journey. He's had support from job coaches to build upon his strengths and interests, gain transferrable skills and earn wages. Over the years, he's learned many of the job tasks at the thrift store as well as explore other industries with our off-site work crews.

For the last few years, Troy has been part of our work crew at Wartburg College working in Dining Services. Troy works alongside other clients as well as college students in the Mensa, keeping the dining room clean and working the dish line. Most recently, Troy has begun his transition to a regular, part-time employee at Wartburg College, working a couple days per week there and a couple days per week at the thrift store. Troy has the support of a job coach as he moves to community employment and learns new tasks at his job.

We are thrilled to see Troy taking that next step in his employment journey and be a valued member of the workforce in our community.

You can support clients like Troy realizing their employment dreams with a gift to our Employment Services Program. Learn more  and give online at www.larrabeecenter.org/getting-involved/donate
