Arkansas Suffers Setback at #24 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the second straight game, Arkansas dug itself a hole it could not recover from as #24 Alabama defended its home court with a 90-59 victory Saturday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum.

The Crimson Tide (11-3, 6-0 SEC) went on a 19-2 run (including 14-0 spurt) thanks to seven Razorback turnovers to lead 22-5 at 10:12. Alabama also had a 9-0 run late in the first half to take its largest lead of the half, 25 points (42-17).

Arkansas (10-4, 2-4 SEC) came out of the locker room to start the second half by scoring the first five pints and force an Alabama timeout. However, with 17:33 left, the Crimson Tide had a 16-4 run and cruised the rest of the way.

Moses Moody scored 14 of Arkansas’ first 15 points and finished with a season-high 28 while grabbing nine rebounds. Jalen Tate added 10 for the Razorbacks.

Alabama was led by John Petty Jr., Jaden Shackelford and Herbert Jones with 17, 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Arkansas returns to Bud Walton Arena to host Auburn on Wednesday (Jan. 20). Tipoff is set for 8:00 pm and the game will be televised on SEC Network.

FIRST HALF: Arkansas 19 – Alabama 42

  • Moses Moody scored 14 of Arkansas; first 15 points. He finished the half with 14 points and seven of the team’s 16 rebounds.

SECOND HALF: Arkansas 40 – Alabama 48

  • Moses Moody also scored 14 second-half points.
  • Despite 18 turnovers for the game, Arkansas only committed six in the second half.
  • Arkansas had six of its eight assists and seven of its nine steals for the game in the second half.

GAME NOTES

  • Arkansas’ starting lineup was Jalen Tate (G) – Desi Sills (G) – Moses Moody (G) – Justin Smith (F) – Jaylin Williams (F) for the first time this season.
  • Arkansas won the opening tip. The Razorbacks are 7-2 this year when controlling the opening tip.
  • Moses Moody scored the game’s first points, two free throws at 19:42.
  • Vance Jackson Jr., was the first sub for Arkansas.
  • Moses Moody led the team in both scoring and rebounds in the same game for the second time. He has scored double figures in 13 of 14 games and is the only Razorback to make a 3-pointer in all 14 games.
  • Vance Jackson entered the game with three steals for the season and had three at Alabama.
  • Ethan Henderson had a productive 15:31 minutes played with four rebounds and a season-high three blocked shots.
