Former Elementary Principal

“My school decided to participate...to expose our students to technological skills such as programming, coding and computer applications. It is important that our students be equipped with the necessary tools to become successful in the 21st century...our students thoroughly enjoyed being engaged in such exciting project-based lessons. We would highly recommend this program to other schools.”

Parent and Teacher

“Thank you for this amazing program. I really liked...the experience for our students' interests by doing the space invaders app and the objects, classes, and libraries videos...”

Instructor

Director

Paul McNeil, PhD

Dr. Paul McNeil is a former black and rural kid who has experienced the life-changing opportunities the tech industry gives its professionals. He also knows that the earlier you are exposed to foundational skills, the sooner you can take advantage of these opportunities. Unfortunately, black, brown, and rural communities often do not have access to experts to create, implement, or support coding programs for their students. To solve this access problem, Dr. McNeil created the App Developer Juniors Program, a series of virtual courses and camps! Through this program, he helps non-technical parents and educators introduce black, brown, and rural students to the technical and soft skills they need for a successful tech career. Dr. McNeil is a formally educated computer systems engineer, having earned a PhD in Computer and Information Systems Engineering from Tennessee State University and an MS in Computer Science from Vanderbilt University. He has worked as a computer science tutor or camp instructor from his undergraduate days at Oakwood University through graduate school. Dr. McNeil's supporting team has over 30 years of combined K-12 practical classroom experience. Together they have worked to create a virtual learning experience that empowers black, brown, and rural students to create their own coding projects and tech careers long after they finish the program.
