Huddersfield Giants boss Ian Watson reveals where Warrington Wolves loanee Jake Wardle will play in 2023

Jake Wardle has reinvented himself at the Warrington Wolves.

After finding his options limited at the Huddersfield Giants in 2022, the centre moved on loan to the Cheshire club for the rest of the year and has excelled under Daryl Powell.

However, with Toby King moving to the Wigan Warriors in 2023, Huddersfield boss Ian Watson has now revealed that Wardle will be heading back to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Those comments came in the wake of Huddersfield’s 38-36 win over Warrington which consigned the Wolves to an 11th-placed finish.

“We wanted to keep him. I’ve seen some comments throughout the week, but I don’t know whether there’s been a miscommunication there between Warrington and Daryl (Powell) and stuff like that,” Watson said after the game.

“They said they didn’t want to do that. So for us, Jake comes back.  Jake’s not staying at Warrington next year and won’t be at Warrington next year, he will be a Huddersfield player unless something else happens on the back end of that.

“So there was no crossed wires from Huddersfield or anybody else. It was either we got Toby King permanently, or Jake Wardle came back.

“They knew that situation and we won’t be changing from that situation as well. Jake went out to get game time because he wasn’t cracking the starting spot here at that time. But we all still like Jake, we think he’s a great bloke, a great part of our squad.”

Meanwhile, the Wolves have already brought in Josh McGuire, Paul Vaughan, Thomas Mikaele, Matt Dufty, Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson for 2023 as Powell looks to reinvent his Warrington side after a bitterly disappointing campaign.

Huddersfield, on the other hand, will not be doing too much wheeling and dealing with their squad only needing ‘quality’ additions Watson previously said.
