Blood, sex and alcohol.

That was what Club Worth was all about.

Ever since vampires had come out to the world, people had been obsessed. Take a walk on the wild side and see what the nightclub was all about.

Acadia Powell, on the other hand, didn’t do vampires. Nor did she do messy.

What she did do was stay away from people like Constantine Worth, Master of the City, and the most gorgeous man in the history of men. It didn’t matter that he had hypnotizing eyes, beautiful lips, and the sexiest body she’d ever had the privilege of laying eyes on.

It should be easy for her to stay away, but with each subsequent encounter, it’s becoming harder and harder to fight the growing need inside of her.

***

Constantine Worth knew that Acadia was off limits. Not only was she human and not willing to slum it with the undead, but she was also the baby sister of the city’s chief of police. The man that liked to arrest him every other day and twice on Sunday.

He should hate her based solely on the last name she shared with her brother. Yet each time he sees her, he forgets that he’s supposed to be playing nice. She sets his blood to boil, and each time she lets the verbal slurs flow, he finds it harder and harder to maintain his distance.

Soon, he will have to make a choice. Maintain his upstanding relationship with human law enforcement, or take what he wants, and damn the consequences.

Con wanted Acadia.
Acadia wanted Con.
These two couldn't keep their eyes or their thoughts off of each other.
Too bad Acadia's human.
Funny how forbidden fruit is always the sweetest!

When one of my favorite authors decides to dabble, once again, with paranormal romance, you better believe I was gonna be all over that! LLV's books are my solace and I found some comfort with this one.

While this story tackled some ugliness (those activists were no joke), I couldn't help but be enamored by all that was developing between Con and Acadia. He was so mysterious and utterly irresistible to her. And although she was supposed to be off limits, he couldn't help but give into temptation, again and again and again.

I enjoy LIV's books, I really do,I look forward to each new entry into her latest series, but I an sad to say that this new genre for LLV did not work for me.
I found this book a struggle to read.I did not connect with these two MC's and their story line. The heroine annoyed me and the vamp hero was not to my liking.
I did not like the fact that the heroine was pregnant at 15 from a one night stand per the heroine then suffered a miscarriage...so 15 year olds have ons now..I guess I am a prude.
I felt like this book was just random thoughts written down and the story did not flow .I thought the book would get better as I read on but no.
This did not have the usual epilogue that I love with this author.
Sorry LLVbut this was a miss for me.
Will I read more by this author?Absolutely...her other series are like catnip to me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I tried….up to the 70% mark I tried and I just can’t anymore. I don’t feel any connection to the characters, I’m confused why they are so obsessed with each other, and I find the heroine quite pathetic.

They spoke 2 times and when one of his people are murdered she feels the need to run to him before he’s been notified by the police and “warn him”. She feels some kind of obligation to him I guess? Then after going their separate ways he shows up in her bedroom basically saying he can’t go without her - again…they’ve had 2 small conversations- and craws into bed naked, strips her down, wakes her up, fcks her, and then bounces to help save OW before the sheets are cold.
Then, again out of the blue, she’s begging…BEGGING….him to be with her. 🤦‍♀️

Had LLV stated there was some obsession between then due to XYZ or that they were drawn together due to XYZ I could have understood. But nope, nothing, nada. We get told he’s tried to have a “life” with 8 other women and had a child with the most recent and since it all ended badly all he can give her is meaningless sex - at 68%!!.

I tried a few more pages after that point but I just couldn’t. Lack of character development, lack of relationship development, and lack of world development (I’m not the brightest crayon but I am capable of understanding paranormal worlds. At 70% I had little to NO understanding of the world their living in) made this a DNF for me.

Suck This is Lani Lynn Vale's entrance into vampires and I am here for it! I adore her books, and I really enjoyed her take on dragons. I was psyched she was doing a vampire book and I wasn't disappointed.

So I kind of got Sookie Stackhouse vibes (the books, not the TV show which was literally nothing like the books). Vampires are "out" and good girls don't get involved with vampires. Acadia is the sister of the police chief and Constantine isn't trying to get messed up with the law. So, you have a bit of the forbidden relationship trope mixed with an almost "fated" vibe.

Suck This was a blend of humor and steam, which is one thing I always appreciate about LLV's book. This has some of the classic vampire rules, but LLV has her twist. There is some suspense as well, so that was just a bonus!

  POV: dual 1st
  Tears: no
  Trope: forbidden romance, fated
  Triggers: none
  Series/Standalone: stand alone
  Cliffhanger:

When I learned that LLV was going to release a book with vampires, I was both very enthusiastic (I love urban fantasy with vampires !!) and a little suspicious (Kristen Ashley had done the same and I didn't like her Fantasyland series)

And finally, if it's not an absolute favorite, I liked this book ...
The romance was sexy, the characters endearing but I would have liked the plot and the universe to be much more developed (the folklore around vampires, the functioning of their world ... I found it too light !)

In short, I'm waiting to see if there is a sequel to decide definitively but it's a good reading =)

There is just no end to this authors talent, she said that this isn’t the genre she would normally write but she had a go. Had a go? OMG, this book was amazing from start to finish and I highly think she needs to write a new vamp series! Highly recommend reading! Amazing, Lani! 💞

Constantine is the Master of the City and 1000 year old vampire. Acadia is the top forensic scientist that works for the police station and is the police chief’s sister. When their eyes lock from a cross Constantine’s club it’s over for them and he will do anything and everything to get to know her. She knows it’s a bad idea but he is everything she’s ever wanted in a man. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, combustible and sizzling!! LLV takes you on a journey through the paranormal world and it’s filled with excitement, love, suspense, humor and twists and turns. On a side note I loved little Nola!!

This was not like any other LLV book I've read.

Did I enjoy it? Yes. Was it good? Still yes. Was it different and harder to process? Yes. The world was great, but because it wasn't what I was used to, it took longer to process and enjoy.

I'm putting this at a 4/5 but I'll have to reread before I give any solid opinions.

When I heard that LLV was writing a vampire novel, I wasn't sure what to expect, but holy moly! This had LLV stamped all over it, whether the characters are human or not. I absolutely loved it and couldn't put it!

"My gaze clashed with his. We stayed that way long moments. Something, something real and charged, passed between us."

Acadia Powell knew who Constantine Worth was, but when she comes face to face with him at his own club, there is no denying the pull between them. Constantine knows that Acadia is off limits. One, she's human. Two, her brother is the chief of police. However, when fate and....a little of mutual stalking keeps bringing them together, reason kinda goes out the window.

"She made me feel things I didn't want to feel. See things that I didn't want to see. Hear things I didn't want to hear."

This story was almost a typical LLV story. Her writing style is just the same and the story is her usual mix of humour, sexiness, brutality, and the unexpected. I absolutely loved the main characters. Acadia was kickass and spunky, with a good heart. Constantine was commanding and sexy AF. Gah! I loved this author's take on vampires and I'm definitely hoping for more from this world.

I know she didn’t read my mind, but I have been in a monster romance mood for a while, so this scratched an itch!!
While I knew it was Lani, it doesn’t feel like her writing, but it.. did? Hard to explain, just know if you like her writing you like this.
I hope she takes more chances outside her wheelhouse, absolutely loved this!!

I'm a Lani fan period.

But PNR is why I started reading.

So you know I about ate this whole, it didn't even touch the sides.

I'm always super intrigued when authors step outside their norm and dabble in other things. This is the second time for this author and given how much I loved the Dragons.. I was damn excited for some Vampire action.

FYI...

IT DOESN'T DISAPPOINT.

Acadia is my favourite kind of heroine..
She's fierce, unapologetically herself and even in times of fear... she sticks to her morals and follow's her heart. I loved her. I loved that she pushed her brothers to the brink of insanity and I freaking adore her curiosity. She was so well rounded.

Constantine is quite a unique character and I would say a little different to Lani's alphas.
Now he is still very much alpha in every way.
But this guy comes with a few more years of baggage to unpack and a whole lot more stubborn. It made for at times a frustrating journey whilst he worked through his shit but it also gave him depth and made me wonder what made him tick.

These two are HAWT. Good lort. They had all the tensions. All the anxiety and all the crazy to boot. I was here for it, for them and their journey. I loved her and the fact her fear couldn't override the lust she had for the man. I loved him and the fact that no matter how hard he tried.. avoiding her was an impossible task. They were made for one another, so wrong but so right. And the seggs. Sweet lordy it was a hot mess in all the right ways.

As a first time dipping her toes into something different I truly couldn't of asked for better. There is a great foundation for something should she fancy writing more but I also felt super satisfied with what we got from Con and Acadia.

I love me some good world building and this give me that with just enough teasing that left me wanting more. The plot progression is on point and character development is perfection.
I loved the side characters, I'm so effing curious about what their lives could be and I loved the interactions between all the characters together.

I laughed, stressed, swooned and gasped. It was a journey but one that I enjoyed and was so easy to fall in to consuming me whole.

And perfect timing for spooky season.

If you're a fan on Lani you'll love this. It's all her wit, sass and smoke. The perfect combination. Just with a little spice.

Let me say I am not normally a paranormal romance fan but if this author wrote it, I’ll read it and I am so glad I did. This story has you on the edge of your seat from the very first chapter. You are drawn into their world with ease and are so intensely captivated that you are unable to put this story down. Con and Acadia have chemistry that oozes and sparks through every word. There are twists and turns, heat and passion, witty banter and a storyline that holds your attention like no other. The passion and emotion that radiates between these two has your heart and soul bursting. Suck This captures you in a way that has you gripped by the characters and the suspense along with the love story so that is all you see. A story that shows just how talented this author is. I need more because I’m not ready to say goodbye to all these characters.

This one was odd for me, an odd vampire take. I don't know now after I'm done reading it if I like it or not. I don't know that I like the characters, the siblings had an interesting dynamic, the same could be said with Con and his vampires. I guess most of all I'm just glad to be done reading this one.

This is a different genre for LLV. As with her other works tho, it was well written and keeps you enthralled! It better become a series, cuz while it has a HEA, there are some ongoing unresolved issues with the whole humans vs vamps story line. Would love to see Con's inner circle get their HEA too!

I enjoyed this book a lot. Even though there were some moments that felt a bit off to me–like introducing tidbits of characters’ pasts whenever it suited the story.
The ending was cut-off abruptly. It bugs me, since who knows if there will be another book in this series.

Get ready to do vampires the Lani Lynn Vale way!! I am not much of a paranormal reader but I am a Lani Lynn Vale fan so I decided to give it a chance and I am so glad that I did. I loved every single second of this book and couldn't lay it down. This is the story or Arcadia Powell and Constantine Worth. She knows who he is but when she comes face to face with him at his own club the pull between them was so strong I fell like you could feel it through the pages of the book. However Constantine knows that Arcadia is off limits to him. For one she is a human and two her brother is the chief of police and he just loves to put Constantine behind bars any time he can. However when you have a pull that strong it is hard to stay away and they both might just be stalking each other a little bit to see each other when it is convenient to run into each other. They both make each other feel things they didn't even know they could ever feel for anyone. I am telling you these two are literal fire when they are together. However what happens when a human and a vampire really have a thing for each other? Well you have to read and find out. I will warn you though it is a book you will not want to put down.

DNF @ 23% - 1.5/2 Stars (what I did read)

Ehhh I was kinda hoping I'd like this one. I've been a fan of LLV for a while now and admittedly her books can be hit or miss with me for various reasons. Though I still love her books despite my issues with her characters 😸 -- but this one was definitely a miss for me.

I'll start with pointing out this is probably a case of "it's me not you" rather than the book being bad. I just didn't like what I did manage to read. 🙈

Cause hey, everyone who decides to write paranormal whether it's about shifters or vampires, they have the freedom to interpret it however they want. And thus create the type of versions they want as well. I simply didn't find it interesting enough for me.

Probably didn't help I hadn't read LLV in a little while so I wasn't too familiar with her writing style. I didn't particularly enjoy how the book flowed (which wasn't at all tbh) and felt clunky and weird to me. I especially didn't vibe with the heroine and her inner monologuing. Was I supposed to be interested in her explaining how she hated people (as if that made her special), had no muscle tone in her arms and liked running at night? Eh, it wasn't that she told us all that that was the problem but more the way it was delivered to us I found unsatisfying.

Not the first heroine of LLV's I've not liked so again, it was likely a me problem because I'm a picky bitch with my heroines.

As far as the vampire aspect... Meh. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some of the details were interesting but it all felt flat to me. Even 23% in I was not invested at all.

Not even by the hero Constantine. And I usually love a sexy vampire who gets obsessed with the heroine. This one just didn't do it for me.

It felt a little unpolished and for me, like it had a lot of filler in between the actual story. I mean, was having the hero detailing the heroine's entire outfit, her looks and what type of underwear he thought she was wearing absolutely necessary to the story? 😄 Didn't think so.

But again, this is very much a me problem. More than anything it's biggest crime was the poor pacing, scene transitioning and that it did nothing to pull me in and make me invested enough to want to see where it leads. So, I'm just gonna mark it and move on.

Maybe I'll try again another day and it'll hit different. Who knows.

I will say this right off the bat, I am not a vampire genre gal. I don’t read that many of them and I honestly was only reading this because it was written by Lani Lynn Vale. In fact I began to read and then put it down for a couple of days. I thought this was going to be the first LLV book ever that I didn’t finish.

A few days later I came back to it and I am so glad I did. Acadia (which is a great name) and Constantine are both wonderful characters. Acadia doesn’t really do vampires. I mean she is the sheriff’s sister after all and her brother would just love to lock Constantine up and throw away the key. While her brother is busy defending vampires in court. Yet the pair are drawn to one another like no other. Constantine in all his many years has never been this drawn to someone and a human to boot. While Acadia can’t stop thinking about him or rushing to warn him when he becomes a suspect in the crime scene she is working.

There is plenty of suspense in this book and as always the secondary characters just make you fall in love with them. I hope we hear more from them in the future. The men that make up Constantine’s inner circle were interesting and I want to know more.

I will give Mrs. Vale props though because she had me in tears over Nola, Constantine’s daughter. She is such a sweet character and I would have loved more interactions between the two of them.

There is one thing though that left me with questions. Without giving anything away I wondered why something didn’t get healed when other things were. I know that sounds confusing but trust me if you read the book you will understand. It just left me with questions. However, that could just be me too. Sometimes I over analyze all sorts of things.

I will say for a first foray into the world of vampires, Lani Lynn Vale knocked this out of the park.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.  This review was originally posted on Storied Conversation

Review: Suck This by Lani Lynn Vale.
🧛‍♂️
Whaaat???? Lani writing vampire books? That’s everything I didn’t know I needed! Where I can order more from this world? Because after Con and Acadia story, I just want more and I feel like there’s a LOT of potential, like a lot. I loved many of the side characters, sooooo….. give me!

The vampire world are real and well known to the people, and they are scared. They say when people have lots of fear, a way to deal with this is through violence. Those activists are crazy people and they are out there for Con’s head, since he is the leader of the vampires. Unfortunately for him, instead of keeping himself between his own people, he falls hard for a human.

It’s not that bad, because Acadia is also draw to him like a moth to a flame. It’s incredible how they’re bonded to each other, they feel their presence, their smell and their obsession. Them stalking one another were so funny and their chemistry (and hotness) were so good. But most of all, even though they try so hard to protect themselves, they are a team and this team fight for each other.

Apart from their love, there’s a lot of suspense, action and mysteries surrounding the story, which I loved. I also enjoyed a lot Con’s faithful group of friends, and that leads to when we’ll get their stories? Acadia’s brothers are also so great, I loved them, each with their own personalities. Even if my wishes are not granted and this is the only story I get from this vampire world, I can absolutely say that I’m happy with it.

Acadia Powell, crime scene investigator, and Constantine Worth, Master Vampire of the city, both knew that they should not be spending time together . . . but every encounter they have makes it harder and harder to keep their distance from one another. As their lives begin to intertwine more and more and their relationship intensifies, all hell starts breaking loose across Austin and both Con and Acadia will have to deal with the consequences.

So, Lani Lynn Vale decided to write a vampire book, and it was just as fabulous as I expected! As a huge paranormal romance fan, I’ve read many vampire books, but Suck This was a completely new and unique take on the genre. Fans of paranormal will love the plot and this new twist on the trope and LLV’s readers will adore that these characters are just as sexy, sassy and witty as all the others she writes, bringing the best of both worlds to the pages on your e-reader.

Constantine is as alpha and swoony as expected. But, Lani does an amazing job of giving readers a glimpse of his past and what makes him tick. Acadia is also no shrinking violet and as sassy as can be. Even though she doesn’t know exactly what she is getting into, she dives in anyway because she can’t stay away from Con any more than he can stay away from her. There are some really fun twists and turns and unexpected happenings that had me finishing Suck This in one sitting (yep - I stayed up way too late and it was totally worth it!) 5 stars and some crossed fingers that Lani decides to expand upon this world, because, Suck This was too much fun to only be a standalone.

If Lani Lynn Vale writes it, I read it. This book is not different... it has the typical LLV storylines and humor but with the added paranormal element. Constantine is a hundreds year old vampire who is the "Master of the City". Acadia is a woman who is sure of herself and her way of life.

Since vampires have made themselves known to the world she is one of those who support them being out, but at the same time is wary. As you learn about her, you realize that all is not what it seems with her... and as the story plays out you understand why.

There is a connection that you don't realize that is there but makes a lot of sense as you learn more. Constantine is a vampire that keeps himself apart from dealing too deep with anyone because of some poor past exeriences with betryals. He keeps in inner circle extremely small, and doesn't have a will to grow it. However, when he comes face to face with Acadia, he realizes that he has no control over that anymore.

These two are connected on an almost cellular level that neither really understands. This is a story that is mixed with humor and suspense and it is everything that I wanted. I like the fact that LLV took a chance delving back into this PNR world, and I am hoping that we get stories from the rest of this cast of characters.

An unexpected foray into a new genre from a favourite author = magic...

I love paranormal romance. There are so many paths and byways that authors can go, with their imagination the only thing holding them back. This author is one of my favourites. So many (sooo many!) series that I’ve enjoyed – from MC to SWAT to FIRE to… Too many to name really. What they all had in common was (seemingly) effortless ways of telling an interesting, funny, deliciously drama and filled stories. This jaunt into the world of vampires and humans uneasily inhabiting the same world was a perfect escape…

What happens when the man you dreamt about – and would do nothing to get closer to – suddenly became everything in your life? Acadia was happy with her life, an expert at her job, and always satisfied with a night in with Netflix and comfort food. Constantine was a night owl, ruler of the city, and not your average vampire… People feared him, rightly so, yet Acadia soon became everything to his life as well… That journey involved a whole lot of vampire vs human nastiness as well as heat and steam galore which really wasn’t nasty – it was amazing…

The drama was fun, the emotional twists and turns completely enrapturing, with characters that made me laugh and yearn for more. Here’s hoping this becomes a series – please?

*I happily reviewed this story

We loved the fact that Lani wrote this book out of her comfort zone it was fantastic we absolutely loved the characters in this one, and we are hoping that she chooses to continue the series as we would love to see more of Constantine and Acadia again.

This story was so much fun as we found ourselves grinning throughout the entire story. Acadia was the bomb we love characters like her as she was fun and flirty, a spitfire to say the least but, most of all loved that she did not back down with her growler of a vampire. A smart and sexy copper, someone Constantine can't keep his mind off of...

Constantine was one smoking hot and one sexy vamp. Loved his protectiveness when it comes to Acadia even though he kept pushing her away he made sure she was safe and protected. Their chemistry off the charts and their love making hot and sexy but, most of all, they just fit and perfect for one another as she challenges him on a daily basis.

The story drew me right in, and we could not put it down. Never a dull moment, mystery and suspense abound. We loved to see the other characters that we fell in love with also get their own stories, so we hope this is not a one and done for this author. I will conclude with the fact that this one goes into the keeper pile to be read over and over again, and Constantine and Acadia made it into my top favorite characters' column for 2022.

Good reading

I was shocked for a bit with Ms. Vale for writing this paranormal romance. I don't read any of the descriptions of Ms. Vale's book for years, I just pre-order. So when I started reading the first few paragraphs I was like what the heck. I had to make sure it was a Vale book lol. I have not read too many paranormal books in a while.
This book was pretty good. I will read the next book of this series for sure, also in hoping it answers questions left at the end for me.
I don't know if I felt connection yet with these two yet. It was more of a dating faze for me yet. And she didn't really seem to have a reaction to his previous partners. Most women would. I know he is old and powerful but she should of had some feeling. Especially with the ex girlfriend.

***spoilers***

My questions were, if shot in the head and he brings them back to life or undead why does that not fix her ovaries parts to have a kid. I mean Chen's half face was missing and it repaired. Also what happened with the ex wife and ex girlfriend at the end. They get knocked out then nothing after that. Next question is what is she now. She doesn't seem to have any strong powers but weird or no powers at all. You know she will be big in something. Maybe more powerful of them all. Maybe she needs to have more time.

Constantine Worth knows that Acadia Powell is forbidden. They’re attracted to each other, forgetful that they’re supposed to be maintaining a distance.

There is really only one way to identify a vampire, by their fangs. All other outward appearances are human.

Acadia hadn’t liked drinking since she was a senior in high school and a passenger in a car with friends—who were drunk. They’d made it halfway to their destination when another drunk driver, headed in the wrong direction, ploughed into their vehicle. She’d been the only survivor, and had yet to meet her mysterious donor that saved her life. The same one that had extracted her out of the car before it erupted into flames.
And the same saviour who’d paid all her hospital bills, and left her all alone, without identifying himself.

A vampire with a southern accident.

Constantine is described with a long, blond beard. The cover model doesn’t match the description or do him justice.

Acadia has had an irregular heartbeat from a baby, it was discovered to have gotten worse in the accident that almost took her life. Having an irregular heartbeat means that every once in a while, her heart skips a beat. It only takes that one time for it to beat in an erratic rhythm. She would need to be shocked back into a regular rhythm again, or it could deteriorate. Maybe even fall into cardiac arrest if it goes on long enough.

“So, you continue to work out, running miles and miles at a time with your heart at a continuously higher level, and see nothing wrong with that? I did not save you, pull you out of that car, and give you my blood just to see you throw your life away.”
“It was you!”
“That night, after saving you by giving you my blood, I brought my fingers to my lips and licked them clean. That taste has stuck with me for years, taunting me, until about twenty minutes ago when you freely gave it to me again.”

Acadia, is the top forensic specialist and sister to the police chief, Corbin Powell, and half of the police officers detest him because they think he’s sympathetic to the vamps.

Acadia was nearly raped a few weeks ago, Constantine intercepted the violation, and in doing so, put a shiny target on her forehead as a vampire supporter. She had just arrived at her flat and was preparing to shower but never got a chance because her door was kicked in, a concussion grenade was tossed into the open door, stunning her. Then, defenceless, they shot her through the head with a high-powered rifle.

Con saved her life by turning her, bringing her back…into a world that hates the very being that she is now a member.

Con’s sire, Carrion has been stirring up trouble, accusing Con of killing Acadia. Then his ex-wife and his ex tried to kill him, and Acadia incapacitates them. Then, when they tried to arrest him, Acadia refuses, challenges their authority, and winds up leaving with him because she wasn’t dead.
“In all technicality, she was dead,” Adelaide pointed out. “This is going to get ugly before it gets better, and there were about twelve thousand reporters out there waiting for us to leave.”
“Try five,” Abraham said. “But continue.”
Adelaide bared her teeth at him.
“Anyway, before I was so rudely interrupted, what I was trying to say was that this isn’t going to stay in our small town. This is already on the verge of something bigger.”
“Something bigger, that’ll draw more attention, and not in a good way.” Pavlov didn’t look so lazy anymore. He looked pissed.

Con’s become too powerful and the council doesn’t like what he’s been establishing with Pavlov, Render, Fox, and Abraham as they’ve been their own council, forming a web of trust within the vampires all around the region. When they encounter problems, they go beyond the council, by directly approaching Con because they know he’ll be resourceful, effective and faster without the hassle from the council.
“That’s true, well, then if my guess is correct, we have a war on our hands, and this is only the beginning,” Constantine said into the silence.
Adelaide stood up and walked to the door, Abraham watching her every move.
“I’ll have everything on your desk that I can find out within the week.”
With that, she left, and the rest of us stared after her with varying degrees of awe.
“I think I want her to have my babies,” I said into the silence.
“You can’t have babies, but even if you could, I’m not sure that’s how it works.”
“What did you say?” I asked, going very, very still.
“I can’t have babies?”
“No.”
“How do you know?”
“Because when you were in that car wreck, your organs were compromised, that was likely why you lost your baby when you did.”
“You’re not joking, are you?”
“No, baby, I wish I were.”
She wrapped her arms around his neck and cried for the kids she would never have.
It hurt.

But what hurt worse, was that Con wouldn’t ever have them either.
“It’ll be okay, baby,” Con whispered sometime later.
“How do you figure?” I asked, looking away.
He brought my eyes back to his.
“Because I have you.”
“How did you know that was what I was upset about?” I challenged him, wiping my eyes.
He stroked his hand down his beard. “It’s the Viking way. We just know.”

Shock. I'm just totally in shock. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. It is so different that what Lani usually writes AND it had been years since she had written a paranormal romance. Don't get me wrong, I love all her books and own all of them. The Dragon series is a really good, but often forgotten, gem of a read from Lani. So what did I like about Suck This? 1. Constantine was unexpected. He has the same Alpha temperament of the other leading men in Lani's books, but there is just something quiet and subtle about him. 2. Acadia....well she's pretty awesome. She's independent and sassy. She also has a quiet intelligence about her that is often over looked by the men in her life. 3. The chemistry between them is out of this world but also is a slow burn. I don't know how she did that but it's unexpected. 4. The story line flowed and had some unexpected twists and turns.

This was a refreshing read from Lani. I forgot that she was the author because it was so different from her most recent series. She's very good at drawing you into the story and making you be present with the characters. This one was not any different and I could not put this book down.
I highly recommend this book and all of Lani's previous publications.

RECEIVED THIS FREE ARC FOR AN HONEST REVIEW! (Acadia & Constantine): TRIGGERS: attempted rape, strong violence and sexual content. HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER!!!! I've been waiting all summer to get my hands on the ARC copy of this book and now I have it. Once again, LLV has managed to blow my mind. As of right now we're under the impression that this is a standalone book and will not enter a series. After reading this, I think the author may be meaning towards a vampire series. I loved it. Set in the present day where humans live and work with actual vampires. Though some people are not accepting of the fanged creatures of the night. Constantine is the richest and the most powerful vampire in the city. Acadia has always been drawn to Constantine, not knowing why. There's so much drama going on in the book. The chemistry between the main characters with the extremely hot and sexy moments. The heated and angry moments of the human rights activists and then the surprise plot twist characters that store up trouble left and right. You'll never get bored with this book. There's so much to unravel.

Well heck! The Lani-verse now includes vampires! I wasn't sure what to expect, but dang it all, she nailed it. There's our hero, Con, the vampire with his close-knit group of lieutenants running the vampire end of the city. He is the authority in his club, and as soon as he sees Acadia, it is on. Acadia is a talented forensic technician with the police department of which her brother is chief. There are a lot of tensions in Austin, Texas between the vampire and non-vampire population, which manifests itself in racism. I really enjoyed Lani's take on this and the implications as the story progressed. Acadia's two brothers are bound to be future Lani heroes. And, by the way, Lani, this can't be the only vampire book. You started this, girl there are a lot of stories to be told. Plus, I don't believe we've got all of Con and Acadia's story to tell, shoo there is so much that girl has yet to do! I love it, Lani, this just proves why I read all your books in one sitting and devour them as soon as I get them. I am a fan of PNR and usually, the vampires are haughty and snubbing humans, I like how you turned this around, and I can't wait to see what you do with them next.

Not expecting to like this storyline as much as I did! I have to admit that I was very confused in the beginning of this book and didn’t have high hopes for if I would like it – which was comical to me by the end because I was on the edge of my seat and loving it! Acadia lived through a horrible accident as a teen where she was the only survivor and saved by a mystery man, and with the integration of vampires and the world not necessarily accepting them, she doesn’t like them, but she isn’t cruel to them. When her friend takes her to a vampire bar, she isn’t happy about it, but when she sees Constantine, she has a pull towards him that she can’t deny or understand, and while he tries to stay away, he can’t seem to let her go. The twists and turns in this story really kept me on the edge of my seat, and meeting the other characters involved in both main characters lives made me want more of their stories as well – hoping that will happen in the future! In the end, I was left with more questions than answers after everything was said and done, and I hope that we get more of this from LLV!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
