A second furlough day is planned in June in Augusta

Augusta City Hall, administrative offices, the city Public Works Department and the city landfill are closed Monday as the city implements the first of two scheduled furlough days.Public safety and dispatch employees will continue to work and be paid and officials say there will be no impact on emergency response. The furlough days do include the police and fire chiefs, city manager, and all other city employees.The city expects to save nearly $69,000 in payroll costs from these two days. The second is planned for June 22.
