Pima County announces changes to Kino drive-through vaccination site due to hot weather
PIMA COUNTY, April 13, 2021 -- The COVID-19 drive-through vaccination site managed by Banner – University Medicine at Kino Stadium will deliver its last doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on May 14 before shutting down permanently due to hot weather.
Hours at the Kino Stadium site will shift on April 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, in order to keep the public, staff and volunteers out of the heat. Patients will be notified by Banner directly if their appointment times need to be adjusted due to this change.
"We're grateful to Banner for their collaboration with Pima County in getting so many shots in arms quickly and efficiently," said Pima County Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen. "The County exceeded its early vaccination goals and has worked with partners to expand indoor operations and keep the momentum going."
The Banner-operated site will be delivering only second doses after April 17. Preparing for this shift, the County on April 12 opened an indoor facility on the north side of Ajo Way at Kino Event Center, 2805 E. Ajo Way, for first- and second-dose appointments that can be made at podvaccine.azdhs.gov.
Banner has administered more than 140,000 doses of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines within Pima County since the County began its vaccination effort in December 2020.
Banner had been operating two vaccine distribution sites until March 2021, when Banner consolidated its COVID-19 vaccination sites in Pima County, closing its location at Banner – University Medicine North.
