Azerbaijan is not claiming road with same status as Lachin corridor in negotiations, says
Armenian FM

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, ARMENPRESS. In the ongoing negotiations the Azerbaijani representatives are not claiming or proposing to have a road with the same regulations as the Lachin corridor, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said in response to the Turkish foreign minister’s statement who claimed that “Azerbaijan is rightly saying that the Lachin corridor and the Zangezur corridor must have the same status.”

Mirzoyan said this terming is an exaggeration and that Azerbaijan is not saying such thing.

“During negotiations the Azerbaijani representatives are not claiming and are not proposing to have a road that would have the same regulations as the Lachin corridor. If Mr. Cavusoglu is introducing this component in negotiations from his side, then it would be better if he says it on his own behalf. Azerbaijan doesn’t say such thing,” Mirzoyan said.

The FM added that rightly none of the sides can claim such thing because the regulations are defined by the 9 November 2020 statement and then also the 11 January 2021 statement.

“The Lachin corridor is there, which is the road of life for the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh and there is also the topic of unblocking of the region’s transport and economic infrastructures. A new link with Nakhijevan is also mentioned. We’ve numerously expressed our position in this regard, it hasn’t changed, all roads, including the active roads, and presumably also the roads which will be built, must function under the sovereignty and legislation of the countries through which they pass,” Mirzoyan said.

The Armenian FM said that he believes that there is certain progress in this issue. He expressed optimism that the negotiations in this direction could be successfully completed in the future.
