Prayer of Penitence
Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
we have sinned against you,

For your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,
forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may serve you in newness of life
to the glory of your name.
Amen.

and forgive us our sins,

The Collect
Almighty God,
whose Son Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life:
raise us, who trust in him,
from the death of sin to the life of righteousness,
that we may seek those things which are above,
where he reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Acts 4.5-12
The next day their rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem, 6with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. When they had made the prisoners stand in their midst, they inquired, ‘By what power or by what name did you do this?’ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders, if we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. This Jesus is
“the stone that was rejected by you, the builders;
it has become the cornerstone.”
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.’
This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

1 John 3.16-end
We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?
Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him.
And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.
This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Gospel Reading
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John
Glory to you O Lord.
John 10.11-18
‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away - and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.’
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you O Christ.

Affirmation of Faith
Let us declare our faith in God.
We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.
We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us with power from on high.
We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Prayers of Intercession – Trevor Morgan
In your house, O Lord, let us dwell in peace and concord; give us all one heart and mind, one true interpretation of your word, that all of us who believe in you may together extol your name, O Lord God, most glorious and excellent over all, Amen
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Heavenly Father, you have made us all in your likeness and love all whom you have made. Suffer not our family to separate itself from you by building barriers of race or colour. As your Son, our Saviour was born of a Hebrew mother but rejoiced in the faith of a Syrian woman and of a Roman soldier, who welcomed the Greeks who sought him and suffered an African to carry his cross, so teach us all to regard the members of all races as fellow heirs in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
O God our Father, we pray for our Queen, giving thanks for her lifetime of duty and service and we pray especially that her strong Christian faith may sustain her in the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Almighty God, we pray for our government and all members of parliament. We pray most earnestly for wisdom, integrity, self-sacrifice and for gracious and sincere understanding of the views of others. We pray for effective Christian witness in political debate and that the good and well being of all our citizens may be at the forefront of all decisions taken.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Examine us, O God, and look deeply into our hearts and minds. What do you find there? If we are half hearted, breathe upon the flame of life ebbing and guttering within us and kindle it again. If we have been selfish, putting our own interests above those of our family, our church or our community, ignite us with your vision of what it means to serve and to belong to the whole people of God, the household of faith. Help us to grasp and to appreciate the opportunities we have been given to live and love in your holy name.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
A Prayer from Zimbabwe
Open my eyes that I may see the deepest needs of people. Move my hands that they may feed the hungry. Touch my heart that it may bring warmth to the despairing. Teach me the generosity that welcomes strangers. Let me share my possessions to clothe the naked. Give me the care that strengthens the sick. Make me share in the quest to right wrongs for in sharing our anxieties and our love, our poverty and our prosperity we partake of your divine presence.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Remember in your mercy, Heavenly Father, those who are passing through illness, those who are housebound or in hospital, those who are oppressed by concerns whom we bring before you now in the silence of our hearts .... We commend to our heavenly Father all who are listed on our news sheet, Blake, Sam, Reuben, Don, Karl, Hugh, Sarah, Elsie, Joanna, Pam, Andy, Holly, Hugo, Frank and Barbara, Bill, Suzanne, Christopher, and Jackie. And we commit ourselves to praying for them by name in our daily prayers. Bless all that is being done for their good and surround them with your healing love and power. We commend to your gracious mercy all who are grieving over the death of loved ones. Help them to know that you are there with them in their darkest hours and in your presence may they find courage, comfort and peace.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Lord God, Creator of us all, you have made us all creatures of this earth but have also promised us a share in eternal life with your saints in heaven where there is neither sorrow or pain. As we rejoice in this promise, we pray for those recently departed this life, Judy Seckleman, Colin Carter, Oliver Dineen, and those whose anniversaries fall at this time.
Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Breaking the Bread
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.
Lamb of God, Lamb of God,
you take our sins, you take our sins,
have mercy on us, have mercy on us,
And grant us peace, and grant us peace.
Invitation to Communion
Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.
Therefore let us keep the feast.
Alleluia.
This is the Lamb of God, who takes our sins. Happy are they who are called to his supper.
Lord, I am not worthy,
Lord, I am not worthy,
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you.
But only say the word and I’ll be healed.
But only say the word and I’ll be healed.

JOHN BRUCE'S WINE
Back in the autumn of 2020, when we were all expecting to have a Christmas market in the churchyard, John Bruce donated a batch of his now legendary Elderflower Wine. The Christmas Market was cancelled along with many other planned events, but we managed to sell some bottles before Christmas, when everything shut down.
So, over the winter, the remaining bottles have been quietly maturing in the vestry. John was concerned that they might have gone past their best, so he, Emma and I opened a bottle last week in the churchyard, and can confirm that it is still superb.
Why not make a donation for a bottle now to keep in the fridge, diluting with soda water to make a refreshing long summer drink, or adding a dash to your gin and tonic to give an elderflower boost. Or just enjoy a small glass on its own, the choice is yours. All proceeds to Church funds.
See Jane in church, or email the office to reserve your bottle.
