As vaccination rates are increasing and COVID-19 cases are decreasing in the region, City Council held its first in-person Council Meeting on Monday, May 3 in the Community Center in the City Hall Complex, 1522 Texas Pkwy.

The location was moved from Council Chambers to the Community Center based on the current renovation plan for the room, to accommodate more individuals and to effectively follow COVID-19 protocols, including social distancing. All attendees are required to wear masks and have their temperature checked prior to entering the facility.

Those who wish to address City Council on agenda items or concerns not on the agenda must now attend the in-person meeting at the Community Center. Upon arrival attendees should follow COVID-19 regulations and complete the orange comment card and present the comment card to the City Secretary prior to the beginning of the meeting.

For questions regarding the comment form, please contact the City Secretary’s office by email at CSO@missouricitytx.gov or call 281.403.8686.

Residents who wish to hear or watch the meetings virtually may access the livestream on the City website via this link: MCTV Livestream.

NOTE: The unofficial results of the May 1 Special Charter Election show that all of the proposed charter amendments passed, including those establishing term limits and expanding City Council terms to three years instead of two. The results of the election will be canvassed and the adopted charter amendments will take effect after an order is adopted at the Wednesday, May 12 Special City Council Meeting.

Sewer Rehabilitation Project In Quail Green Neighborhoods

The Fort Bend MUD 26 is preparing to rehabilitate the sanitary sewer lines in the Quail Green and Quail Green West subdivisions. This project is expected to last about a year and a half and will require their team to access private property at times including backyards. The construction team is currently mobilizing its equipment and completing initial preparation works for this project.

City staff met with MUD representatives and has required them to leave door hangers 48 hours prior to starting work and to also speak with property owners prior to accessing their property. The group will also take pictures before and after working within private property boundaries. Residents or homeowners associations may reach out to City staff at engineering@missouricitytx.gov for additional information and to report any concerns with this project.

MCTX Wants to Showcase Your Artistic Masterpiece

The City has launched a citywide art contest to give residents of all ages an opportunity to “show” the world how they feel about their beloved City. Designs submitted for the competition can be created in any medium, such as paint, sculpture, drawing, digital, photography or other industry platforms.

“The competition is a great social initiative that engages citizens of all ages,” said Interim City Manager Bill Atkinson. “We are hoping this contest will help us build on our strong relationships and increase community involvement among residents, especially young people.”

The theme for this specific art contest is “Missouri City Out Loud”. The work of three finalists will be displayed in Council chambers, the official meeting room for elected and appointed officials, which is currently undergoing a major renovation. Contestants can incorporate the theme into an original art design that communicates their thoughts and feelings about the City. There are three age categories: ages 6-12, ages 13-17 and ages 18 and older.

All artwork must be submitted electronically. Email photos of your masterpiece to Kelly.Matte@missouricitytx.gov by 11:59 pm on July 15, 2021. Please include your first/last name, age, address/subdivision, title/summary of your artwork, email address and phone number.

Entries will be judged by all 7 City Council members, and winners will be recognized at a future official meeting later this summer. The winning designs will also be displayed in the lobby of City Council chambers, posted on the City website and shared via the City’s social media outlets. For more information, call 281.403.8500.
