Foreign Ministry ratifies 14 property documents with Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood residents

Amman, Apr. 29 (Petra)- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said it has ratified on Thursday, 14 property ownership documents struck by the former Jordanian Ministry of Construction and Reconstruction with residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, a Palestinian area located to the north of the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem.

The Jordanian defunct ministry has received the original property contracts from Jerusalem area's residents, according to the foreign ministry.

The ratified documents were then delivered to the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the original proprietors, and their lawyers, said the ministry.

The foreign ministry also handed the above three Palestinian parties a certificate indicating that the Ministry of Construction and Reconstruction concluded an agreement with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to construct 28 housing units in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, according to a press statement.

The certificate also showed that individual agreements with the Jerusalem area's residents were concluded to erect housing units to them in the Jerusalem neighborhood, pledging, according to the documents, to transfer the units' ownership to them.

The transfer of ownership was not completed as a result of the 1967 war, the ministry said.

The ministry's official spokesperson, Dhaifallah Fayez, said the ratification comes within the framework of the Kingdom's keenness to provide all possible support to the people of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem in a way that preserves their rights and retains their homes.

These documents were handed over on Thursday, to the Palestinian side with all the documents in its possession, which could help Jerusalemites maintain their full rights, including rental contracts, lists of beneficiaries' names, in addition to a copy of the agreement signed with UNRWA in 1954, according to Fayez.

Fayez said action to help Jerusalemites hang on to their land and their homes are permanent pillars in the Kingdom's efforts to support the Palestinian people, which also voices the Kingdom's condemnation and rejection of Israel's illegal and inhuman attempts to expel Palestinians from their homes and lands and violate their rights.
