The Love You Hate

Rate this book
An enemies to lovers, standalone novel in The Charge Men Series.

Nate Sullivan

Keep this chick alive.

Don’t let her know I’m her bodyguard.

What should be an easy task, something I’m trained for, and well-practiced in, is a living nightmare. Presley is moody, thinks she’s funny when she’s not, impossible to track down, and highly unpredictable. As her Charge Man, I’m responsible for keeping her heart beating.
The thing is, the closer I get to her, the more my own heart starts beating…for her.
Charge Men don’t ever fall in love. Especially with their infuriating principals. It’s forbidden.

Presley Cohen

I went into a protection program after my father tanked the world’s economy. He is quite literally the most hated man in the world. Because of that, I’m a target. Gold Hawke, Colorado isn’t a place anyone dreams of visiting, let alone, living. It’s a far cry from the glamorous, billionaire lifestyle I’m accustomed to, but at least I’m breathing. I created a Re-Do Bucket List. It’s filled with things I would never be able to do in my former life in the spotlight. My new frenemy Nate Sullivan is infuriated by my list, but who doesn’t want to join a roller derby team? Or strip at a strip club? Or ride a bull?

Or make that exasperatingly attractive good guy fall in love with you?

I have nothing left to lose.

"I'm your Charge Man. It is my job to protect your heartbeat. Nothing more. Nothing less."

3.5 stars!

This is a hard book for me to review as it started out really rough for me. The hero came off as a jackass as he called the heroine a bitch--which I usually dnf right away--while the heroine came off as ditzy and obnoxious. I found both characters to be inconsistently written, especially in their vocabulary, while there was an unexpected sci-fi undertone to the Charge Man training process.

That being said, after I took this novel less seriously and warmed up to Nate and Presley's sense of humor, I found myself enjoying the story more. While this novel is marketed as a romantic-suspense, there wasn't enough on-page action to satisfy my craving. However, the slow burn romance between Presley and Nate really took center stage, and the ending was the best part for me. There was drama, angst, and a surprising twist that set up their HEA nicely. I look forward to more from Rachel Robinson ♡

Presley is in protection due to her father's greed; Nate is the Charge Man tasked to keep her safe. Presley has gone from the glitz and glamour of the moneyed lifestyle to the small town of Gold Hawke, CO. She is working! Her new lifestyle is blue-collar and to try new things.

Nate is on the crap list, and his job is on the line; after messing up with his last Principal. Sent to the one job no one wants, he is to keep Presley safe from afar. First, becoming her co-worker and gradually getting closer. Can he keep her safe if feelings are involved?

I usually love everything by this author, but this book missed the mark for me. I had a few false starts in reading it, and the slow start lost my attention. I was easily distracted. However, one speedbump will not make me stop reading this author.

I received an advanced copy from the Author; this is my voluntary review.

I was really looking forward to this one because of the blurb. I thought it would be really interesting. Presley and Nate are complete opposites. And Nate's job is to protect Presley without her catching on.

I didn't love it but didn't hate it too. It was a good read but because it's a trope that I love, it just didn't satisfy me enough. It was slow at the start and dragged a little bit. There are some points where I couldn't connect to. But I enjoyed the way Presley and Nate got under each other's skin. Their banter and back and forth are also enjoyable.

Presley and Nates story was hard at moments for me cause I really didn’t like Presley, at all, but the more I read the more she grew on me. I’m still not a total fan but she started to make more sense to me but I’m one who very rarely likes the heroines do it could just be me. She definitely made things interesting for Nate who wanted to strangle her and kiss her at the same time

As a reader who's always on the lookout for new authors I was drawn to the premise of this book and its tale of a forbidden romance set in a small town. Add in a bit of suspense and you have what promised to be an enticing romance from a new-to-me author....and for a fair portion of the book it is a good read, especially after a slow and bumpy start.

Presley Cohen's one of the most hated women in America thanks to her thieving father's antics. Because of the danger he's brought to her she's now in protective custody being watched over by a man who starts off hating her before becoming attracted to her. Starting her life over means REALLY starting over by doing all the things she's thought about doing but never got around to before with the creation of a list that brings her and her bodyguard closer together as the story progresses. At the start of the story Presley's a bit hard to warm up to as she's a bit awkward in her interactions. She's used to her money winning people over and now she has only herself to rely on. I did applaud her quickly making the best of things though and jumping in wholeheartedly to work through her list, a journey that helps readers get to know her better.

Nate Sullivan is a sexy but rigid man, a bodyguard who has some issues with his new charge. He finds her annoying, a bit ditzy, and doesn't understand her attempts at humor. Despite his issues with her, he does find her attractive against his better judgment. What starts out as a connection full of sexual tension also sees moments of disrespect on his part which made it hard to like him early on. The more time they spend together though the more rewarding their connection becomes, where their differences are what cements their pairing by the latter half of the story.

Much of this story is familiar, but that doesn't make for a bad story as familiarity brings comfort. The action in and out of the bedroom gets off to a slow start as well with me almost screaming while waiting to see some real steam between Nate and Presley. Despite the slow storyline, and lack of heat throughout a chunk of the book, this was still well-worth a few hours of reading time and has me looking forward to what comes next from Ms. Robinson.

With the summary being—Gold Hawke, Colorado, a small town with a population of now 111 people is a far cry from the busy and rich urban life that Presley Cohen was used to, but she has no choice. That happens when your billionaire father is caught up in a monetary fraud scandal—I was amazed by how well she acclimated to this backwater town and she quickly endeared herself to me. I liked Presley’s self-honesty and how she now looked for simpler things for her ‘bucket list’, some may have been a bit out there 😆 but everyone is different.

Nate, Presley’s Charge Man or protector, finds himself hating her lame jokes but liking her as a person. Getting to know her better-helped readers to know her better too, well both of them really. He is an interesting man, he didn’t gel with me straight away—I didn’t dislike him though. As the story progressed I liked him more and more, as he became less rigid. I enjoyed the fact that the intimacy didn’t overtake the story but was a part of it.

The romance between the two lead characters is extremely slow but worth it in the end and if you start to hesitate on staying with the story I suggest you stick with it. The suspense element is a nice sideline and adds a great punch to the story as well. Included in this are some humorous scenes and fun banter, ah the old gal and her shotgun! 😄

I will definitely be looking for more stories by this author again, I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that this story is quite different and not your run-of-the-mill book.

Rachel Robinson is a new author to me but that’s about to change because I really enjoyed this well written captivating story. I have to be honest and say it took a while for me to become engrossed in Presley and Nate’s story but I’m so happy I persevered because it became a book I couldn’t put down.
Presley is in the witness protection program after her father destroyed the worlds economy, overnight he became the most hated man alive and she became a target. Moving to Gold Hawke, Colorado wasn’t planned but now she needs to make the best of her life with no more glamorous parties or billionaire friends, now she needs to survive with just Nate Sullivan as her protector….
Nate is hired to keep Presley alive and that should be easy after all that’s what he’s trained for but this moody woman is getting under his skin, she is making him feel alive and that’s not meant to happen.
Crossing that line could put them both in danger…..
If you love slow burn, enemies to lovers you will love The Love You Hate, it’s a stand-alone that’s part of the In Charge Men Series, it will keep you in the edge of your seat, it will make you smile and at times it will make you so angry with the moody rich girl but I’m sure you will enjoy this emotional roller coaster. Looking forward to reading more in this series as well as checking out other works by this author.

4 star review The Love You Hate by Rachel Robinson

Rachel Robinson is a new author to me. I enjoy romantic suspense stories so was looking forward to reading The Love You Hate. This is Nate Sullivan and Presley Cohen’s story and it ticked a number of boxes for me.

We all have choices to make but sometimes those choices are forced upon us by the actions of others. Such is the position that Presley is in when she if forced to go in to protective custody/hiding because of her fathers actions in a small town called Gold Hawke, Colorado.

Nate is the man charged with keeping her safe, he’s supposed to keep his distance but he is drawn to her and becomes involved. Their relationship is more frenemies than lovers as Presley constantly tests Nate’s patience and pushes his buttons.

However as the danger becomes more intense feelings and emotions will become involved. Will their blossoming relationship cost them their lives? Can Nate keep Presley safe as well as his career? You’ll have to one click to find out.

Rachel Robinson is a new author to me, however the blurb for The Love You Hate sounded interesting so I gave it a go. Who can resist an enemies to lovers romance? Not me! I also enjoy romantic suspense stories so double bonus.

Presley is placed in to protective custody because of her father's actions.  While he is in prison, she is shipped off to Gold Hawk, where without her knowledge a Charge Man is on duty to protect her. Nate Sullivan is that Charge Man.  And while he supposed to keep his distance and observe from afar, he decides to become involved in her life after his last assignment went astray.

Presley and Nate push each other's buttons, but at the same time begin to rely on each other. There are some interesting  aspects to being a charge man, though I feel like it gives too much of the story away

I believe this series has potential, though I feel like this book had a slow start.  It took me more chapters than I thought it would to really get into the storyline. I will be following the series though to satisfy me need to see how the Charge Men evolve.

4 stars!

Presley's world is turned upside down when her father is taken to prison. The world she once knew is no more and she's forced to hide and be protected so no one can get to her.

Nate the protector, The Charge Man has been programmed to protect, (not feel) and never get involved with anyone. He is basically a human-robot and was trained or "programmed" to be that way, that is until he meets his new client...

I love the buildup to their feelings, and the friendship they formed first. I'm happy not everything was easy for them either, that it wasn't all smooth sailing. I wish I had more of the two of them in a relationship before everything happened. I wanted more of the two of them after their feelings were out in the open, but all in all this book kept me interested and on my toes wondering what would could possibly happen next. I liked the little twist in the end and how everything was revealed.

The Love You Hate was one of those books that had me conflicted about the rating because the hero was a total tool. It's hard for me to actually warm up to a hero like Nate when he comes out of the gate badly so my mind is made at that point. I'm a strong female & have no use for any hero who acts like Nate, even if our heroine Presley had her own issues because I'm all about that #GIRLPOWER. Nate is sent in to keep an eye on Presley as she's his charge & he's her secret bodyguard. Presley's father really messed things up for the family, so now she's in hiding for her own safety. The story gets complicated as Nate is starting to get attached to her which is a no no in his world. I will say that they were entertaining together once I got a bit past (not all the way though) from his questionable beginnings with her. Anyway, this is only my opinion, and at the end of the day I didn't put the book down to ever take a break so I'll HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Very interesting story about 2 characters, Nate and Presley. Presley, in hiding due to the explosion of deceit her father was responsible for. Anyone associated with him become the most hated people because of what he's done. She is living the opposite kind of life she's grown up knowing, new in a small rinky dinky little town, Nate is her Charge Man. Her protector, but she doesn't know that. They strike up this weird friendship. Nate and Presley’s ridiculous thoughts about each other had me giggling in my head. Nate doesn’t really like her but he has to protect her even if she doesn’t know he’s assigned to her as her charge man. Presley is hates liars, she is aloof, was spoiled and has a silly sense of humor, which I thought was ridiculously entertaining. Slow burn, enemies to lovers with a twist here and there. Enjoyable read.

Presley and Nate are two very different people. She’s used to glitz and glamour and money. He’s used to living life on the edge protecting people. I found the beginning to be slow going. Presley was so irritating I almost didn’t want to keep reading. But, I persevered. Good thing! Presley sure did keep Nate on his toes and after a while, her personality and corniness was bearable. The storyline was intriguing and interesting once I got into it. The characters grew on me after I got over their obnoxiousness. The relationship was definitely enemies to lovers with a slow burn but the HEA was worth getting to the end.

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Presley finds herself caught in the crossfire due to her father’s questionable actions due to his quest for wealth and power. The privileged life she knew is now part of the past when she finds herself working as a waitress in a small town as she assumes a new identity and life.

Nate has been tasked with protecting Presley without her knowing that is the reason he has come into her life. Not only is he dreading the assignment, but he finds her exasperating as well so the attraction he has for her was a complication he didn’t see coming.

There are times you will like the characters and times you won’t but the one thing for sure is they will definitely make you feel and the evolution they made both as people and in their relationship was fun to watch.

Rachel Robinson is a new to me author and when I caught the blurb of The Love You Hate I knew I wanted to dive in.

That being said, I liked Presley. She was stuck in her new life for circumstances beyond her control but she was making it work for her. Her immaturity showed a few times, but she was learning how to live on a much smaller scale. But when Nate Sullivan strutted into the bakery, the possibility of more floated into her head for the first time. Too bad it can never happen between them. It is forbidden after all.

The whole idea behind Nate and Presley's slow burning, opposites attract romance was interesting. And not so far-fetched that the Charge Man program couldn't be a real thing, but I was left wanting more. More danger, more suspense, even more romance.

I really like this book. Its the first by Rachel Robinson that I've read. In the beginning, Presley was a little hard to handle for me. Not annoying per se, but pretty close. But as the book progressed, I really ended up liking her. She literally had to start over from scratch in her life, and completely by herself. All due to no fault of her own. It must have been so hard for her.

Nate is assigned to protect her. Presley has no idea of course. She just thinks that he's new to town just like her. They become friends, kind of. They hand out but have a bit of a strange relationship at first. But eventually they grow on each other. Their attraction grows but Nate is constantly on the lookout to make sure that she is safe. Nate has had a bit of unusual training as a Charge Man, and he shouldn't feel this attraction to her. But he does, he just doesn't want to.

These two had perfect banter back and forth. It did have a bit of a slow start for me, but I am so glad that I didn't give up, because I ended up really enjoying this story.

3.5 Stars!

Having read Ms.Robinson's work before I've been looking forward to picking up more of her books! The synopsis for this one caught my eye instantly and I wanted to pick it up next. I really liked this story!

Presley and Nate's journey isn't an easy one. I enjoyed the way these two got under each other's skin and how I wasn't sure what all was going to happen in their story. I just struggled at certain points to fully connect.

With The Love You Hate, Ms.Robinson has created a good and different kind of read! I am curious about the next The Charge Men book!

Presley is in protective custody because her dad made bad choices with other peoples money. She went from a life of luxury to working in a bakery. Nate is in charge of keeping her safe. He is supposed to keep her safe from afar but he keeps getting closer and closer. Can he keep her safe while starting something more with her? Can this really work out? I was Really excited about this book unfortunately it was really slow getting started and really dragged out for me. I would Definitely give this author another chance and read another book.

This is my first book by Rachel Robinson and the blurb for the story was so good it pulled me in. Who can resist the story of a rich girl in basically a protection program falling for her “Charge Man”?
This book had so much potential and there are parts that I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, it almost felt like there was too much going on. And while there was a great HEA ending (which I really liked) the middle was a little hard to follow. With just a little revision I think this could be a great book and a great series, that’s why I give it a solid 3.5⭐️s.

Presley and Nate are complete opposites but Nate's sole purpose is to protect Presley's heartbeat. Presley dropped into a life she could never have imagined due to circumstances outside of her control. Somehow their hearts/souls recognized it's mate. Against all odds, the tether between the two never falters and they are ready to live life on their own. This was a good read and they get their HEA after all.

Enemies to lovers! I absolutely adore this trope!

Overcoming adversity, and Presley does it in spades! Her NEW bucket-list, well, let's just say I laughed out loud for some of it!

Nate, quite the challenge to protect Presley! Good thing he doesn't like her, right!?!

I enjoyed the story, and Ms. Robinson is a new to me author, I am sure going to explore her other work!

Fun, different, entertaining read!

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. The beginning was very hard to get through, but once you get passed that it gets easier. It felt a little immature, but it had it's good moments and I always love a HEA.
