Salary Grade GN14/Salary Range $51,895 - $93,346

The primary purpose of this position is to perform project management/construction administration for projects designed by private/outside consultants. Primary duties include management of the consultant acquisition process and all project design phases as well as oversight of construction administration. Position ensures designs are in compliance with State Construction Office protocols, procedures, and guidelines; NC Building Code; and other applicable regulations. Employee will oversee the GIS and building database systems and assist with the development of capital improvement budget preparation and asset inventory management. Work may include a leadership role. Frequent travel to active construction projects is required. Projects may be in different parts of the state.

  • Demonstrated ability to determine program/project priorities, processes and procedures.
  • Experience managing projects for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles and design needs and standards; ability to resolve/approve major project/program changes. 
  • Demonstrated ability to approve program/project budgets, schedules, design phases, change orders, requests for payments. 
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with senior level decision-makers on an on-going basis.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3 )years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
