What the PPA Test Involves
The physical performance assessment for firefighter candidates is a timed event, comprised of six evolutions which must be completed in a series, with no breaks in between. Candidates who successfully complete all 6 evolutions within eight minutes will receive a passing certificate.

1. Roof Ladder Carry and 24 ft Ladder Extension
Tests your ability to lift and carry a roof ladder and extend/lower the fly section of an extension ladder with the added stress of simulated full gear. Challenges your:

2. Equiment Carry / Stair Climb

Simulates the task of using force to ventilate a roof or to breach a wall. Challenges your:

Simulates the task of advancing a charged hose line from the fire apparatus to the point of attack. Challenges your:

Simulates the task of breaching and pulling down a ceiling to check for fire extension. Challenges your:

Simulates the critical task of removing a victim or injured firefighter from a fire scene. Challenges your:

PPA Practice Session
As part of the registration process, candidates will be offered the opportunity to sign up for a practice session. Typically held 2-6 weeks prior to the PPA test, practice sessions are an excellent opportunity for you to:
- Visually see the PPA course
- Learn proper techniques from the instructors
- Get hands-on practice of the six evolutions
What You Need On the Day of the Test
Identification
All candidates must have a valid form of photo ID (driver's license, military ID, etc.) prior to participating in either the practice or PPA test session.
Medical and Waiver Forms
Candidates must submit a signed waiver form and a signed medical form prior to participating in either the practice or PPA test session. You will not be allowed to take the test without a signed medical approval form.

Appropriate Attire
All candidates participating in either the practice or PPA test session must wear long pants (jeans, sweat pants, etc.), a long- or short-sleeve shirt, and footwear with a closed toe and heel. No watches or jewelry may be worn during any PPA session and should be removed prior to arriving at the test facility.
