Worker killed in building site collapse


KUALA LUMPUR: A construction worker has died after being buried alive in a site mishap here early Tuesday (Sept 27).

City Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Nurul Adha Abdul Majid said the incident occurred at 12.23am.

"We received a distress call and dispatched two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services truck with 20 personnel to the scene.

"Our team arrived at the scene and found that the 51st floor of the building which was under construction had collapsed, and one worker was buried under the rubble," he said in a statement.

He said the team immediately began clearing the debris in order to get to the victim.

"We managed to get the man out of the concrete at 7.21am.

"The victim, a Bangladeshi construction worker, was pronounced dead at the scene," he added.

The body was then handed over to police for further action.
