DUBAI A Dubai legal firm has launched a divorce clinic to offer free legal advice for expat couples.

Called the Dubai Divorce Legal Clinic, the service at TWS Legal Consultants in Jumeirah Lake Towers offers matrimonial legal advice on divorce in the UAE and the UK covering issues like jurisdiction, child custody and maintenance for the spouse/children.

“Many clinics offer services of support and reconciliation without providing legal information as to what an individual’s legal rights are and the options that best suit them. Our clinic is aimed at providing practical legal advice to guide individuals on their rights and responsibilities under the UAE law,” said Nita Maru, solicitor and managing partner at TWS.

Official divorce

She said: “Residents are unaware as to which set of rules/laws apply to them. Muslim individuals are often confused as to how Sharia principles are applied formally in the legal system and what procedures the couple must go through to obtain an official divorce. Non-Muslims are often unaware as to whether or not they are subject to UAE Law or they must divorce in Dubai or elsewhere. Our family lawyers (English and Arabic speaking) provide accurate and confidential legal advice.”

The first divorce clinic was held on June 30. A monthly affair, it will be held on the last Tuesday of every month from 9 to 11am at the TWS Office.
