287 Family Update

Each Monday, 287 will send an update that will communicate important information that students and families need to know to prepare for the upcoming school year. As needed, we will still send you time-sensitive messages via our notification system.

Make sure that your contact information is updated and you signed up to receive text messages.

Our new COVID-19 website is under construction! It will have the most up-to-date and accurate information for students and families.

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families will come first in all elements of our planning. We understand that staff well-being will impact student well-being.

Decisions that impact students, staff, and families will be informed by engaging them in order to understand the diverse needs and concerns of our 287 community.

We will have a laser focus on racial equity in order to build the groundwork for Black and Brown students to thrive in our new reality. Similarly, efforts to understand trauma, including racial trauma, will be central to our work in the upcoming school year.

Draft Back to School Plan

We will continue to make changes to the draft plan based on feedback from stakeholders and communicate final decisions to staff and families in mid-August.

We’ve designed a draft plan that includes innovative distance learning and carefully builds our capacity over several steps to safely serve students at school. The continuum will allow us to move between the steps and safely adapt to the pandemic around us.

Summary of 287’s Back to School Draft Plan
  • The draft plan has four steps (0, 1, 2, and 3)
  • We will move up or down the steps depending on the nature of the pandemic and the safety of in-person schooling.
  • Step 0 is innovative distance learning. Steps 1 through 3 gradually increase the percent of a school building's staff and student capacity (from 10% to 25% to 50%) in order to safely increase the percent of students we serve in school. Students would attend school 2 days per week and there will be 1 disinfecting day. Students are phased in by grade-level grouping, starting with elementary.
  • All families have the choice to keep their student at home and participate in distance learning no matter what step we are in.
