Coronavirus Update
Please see Mr Walker's latest update, which was sent to parents and carers via e-mail yesterday:

I hope you are well, and have had some time to enjoy the glorious weather. The term starts again on 1 June, and all work will be set by midday on Monday – it will need to be completed by Friday 5 June at 10.00am. The completion of work last half term was absolutely remarkable, and the efforts of the whole school community in staying with this process will pay huge dividends.

As you know from my previous update, we have been busy planning to gradually and safely increase the numbers of students on the school site. We are also planning our response to the recent government request to provide some face-to-face support for Year 10 students, to supplement their online learning from 15 June. We would like to make it clear that any changes made will be gradual, and will be well planned, with safety at the absolute forefront of everything we do.

Over the half term, we have spent time redesigning the building, so that when the time is right we have the capacity to safely work with more students. Next week, we are looking forward to meeting all staff either on site or online to plan for this coming half term. This includes an induction on safely working on the school site, and approaches to the wellbeing of students. We believe our approach will allow us to be as prepared as possible.

I will endeavour to keep you updated each week. As always, your feedback and questions are so welcome – so please do not hesitate to contact me.

Enjoy the rest of your week and take care.

Paul Walker
Headteacher

PPE Requests

Head of STEAM at Penryn College, Mr Childs, has written a message regarding the PPE made by the department:

"These are the face shields we have made on our 3D printer. We took them from a shared CAD file and made the plastic shield from a sheet in our department.

"During the first weeks of lockdown, we gave the school's stock of face shields - which were used for metal work and work with the lathe - to the NHS. Since then, we have had three of our face shield designs tested by the NHS, and we are now waiting to hear if larger numbers are required.

"The 3D-printed file takes a long time to print, meaning this design is not suitable for batch production. However, our simplified designs can be made in larger numbers as long as we can source the elastic.

"If there are any local care homes or other care providers that feel these may be helpful, please let us know via secretary@penryn-college.cornwall.sch.uk and we can make a batch to order.

"There are hundreds of DT departments helping support frontline workers across the country, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to help in this way."

Home Learning
Year 10 student, Fin, and one of his younger brothers made their very own superhero comic strip, 'Ice Man', earlier this month!

Great work, guys!
Art Showcase
Year 8 Art students have been working on a project to illustrate words from the poem 'The Kraken'.

Pupils were asked to use their imagination for the shape, size, style, and position of the lettering on the page. They have also been working on developing their tonal drawing skills and contour shading.

Reflecting on the drawings, Art Teacher, Ms Orford, said: "I am so impressed with the creativity shown, and the amount of time and effort pupils have put into the project."

Check out all of the fantastic drawings above and below!
