What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a type of Yoga that is practiced to get a sound sleep, also known as yogic sleep. Yoga Nidra is a yoga practice that helps to relax the body and mind and take you to experience peaceful and sound sleep. Yoga Nidra is a simple process that is divided into five stages. The process starts with physical engagement with a full-body scan. It helps to balance the emotional state and self-healing. Another practice is Sankalpa, which initiates positive vibes, and thus, the session becomes ultimately fruitful. I am sharing the knowledge received at my Yoga teacher training.

In-depth analysis of Yoga Nidra:

In Yoga Nidra, we make our full body conscious. The process goes through different stages of consciousness like shifts between waking, dreaming, and finally to sound, Dreamless, and deep sleep. It creates a start of relation phase, mental calmness, and immense health benefits. Different exercises during Yoga Nidra are used to prepare the body and mind to adjust the left and right brain, which helps to achieve the results.

Yoga Nidra helps to enter into a sleep condition by slowing the wavelengths in the brain. This is achieved by triggering the real reason in the body. These relaxed responses balance the right and left mind, which calms down the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.

Like every mechanic, our body also needs a complete shutdown of all the systems working in the body to achieve rest. Yoga Nidra helps to train your mind and body to indicate the shutdown to make complete relaxation and get deep sleep.

The whole process takes about 45 minutes. The proper rest enhances the ability of the brain and body to work at its maximum level. It also helps in many health conditions like anxiety attacks, depression, PTSD, eliminating brain fog, and improving overall mental health.

Benefits of Yoga Nidra:

1: Improve sleep issues:

It is important to know that our body is working in its best condition after eight hours of sound sleep, but lack of sleep is a significant issue. There are many reasons for not getting a night of deep sleep. By adding Yoga Nidra before sleeping will help to get fast and sound sleep every night.

2: Freedom from negative thoughts:

Our excessive thoughts are majorly the problems. In Yoga Nidra meditation helps you to detach from the world. When your mind is quiet, you will realize that these are just thoughts and go away. As you get deeper to learn to control your excessive thoughts and by experiencing this every day, you will learn to achieve the state of mindfulness on your own.

3: Detachment from pain:

As you progress in your practice, you get more awareness of your body and mind. You will get aware of how much pain and worries you are holding inside you. Yoga Nidra helps to relieve emotional stress. It also helps to reduce anxiety and depression, which improves the quality of life.

4: Self Connection:

In the fast-moving world, we barely get time to get connected and to know more about ourselves. Yoga Nidra provides an opportunity to expect some time with ourselves and to be concerned about our wellness and health. As our negative thoughts and stress are gone, it creates space for positive things in our minds. It opens a window towards our soul.

5: Enjoy life:

Yoga Nidra has powerful benefits on psychology as well. It helps in healing, which brings happiness and joy to our lives. A daily practice helps to change the overall routine, and this change is for a better lifestyle. Yoga Nidra brings back inner harmony; it helps to move on with life and utilizes your bitter experience in the best ways. Meditation and Yoga help you to think positively and cherish each moment of life.

  1. Reduce other stress-related disorders:

Many people today are suffering from hypertension and hypothyroidism. Deep relaxation exercises in Yoga Nidra helps to reduce blood pressure and stress. Yoga also helps to enhance thyroid function and helps to cure chronic fatigue. Yoga Nidra helps your body to recover quickly.

Starting Yoga Nidra is a way of deep connection with you. It is a spiritual journey of mind and body. It helps the body's senses and mind function generally due to the subconscious mind's weakness. When I practiced Yoga Nidra daily at the ashram, I achieved the level of calmness and tranquility. Yoga Nidra is easy and quick to start; there is no need for prior experience. If you want to achieve mental peace, connect with yourself, bring peace to your daily life, and to maintain work and life balance, Yoga Nidra is the best option to achieve your goals.
