Founded in 1970, the Rhode Island-based nonprofit Save The Bay seeks to protect and improve Narragansett Bay and its 1,705-square-mile watershed. The organization works to achieve its vision of a fully swimmable, fishable Narragansett Bay, accessible to all, through its advocacy, education, and habitat restoration and adaptation work.

The Course: Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club

Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club is a private club with a classic links-style course. Located on the east side of Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay, it is an 18-hole, challenging and picturesque par 70 layout. Wanumetonomy was established in 1922 & is only 5 miles from downtown Newport, Rhode Island. The course provides the player an always-changing view of Narragansett Bay's East Passage. Famed golf course architect Seth Raynor in the “sea coast” style of open fields and few trees originally designed the course. Golf course architect Ron Prichard, under contract to Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club (WGCC), developed a Master Plan to accomplish long-term restorations. Long respected by Rhode Island golfers, Wanumetonomy, replete with stylish bunkers that challenge the equanimity of the most accomplished golfer, takes its place among the state's finest golf courses.
