SAN ANTONIO - According to a report, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon is a finalist for the head coaching job with the Blazers. It marks the first time a female has gone into the last steps for an NBA coaching search.

Other reports have tied her to the Magic head coaching job, but no further news has been released.

Hammon has been with the Spurs since 2014. She's now the first assistant coach to Gregg Popovich and many peg her as the head coach heir-apparent in San Antonio.

She made history by becoming the first female to coach an NBA team on December 30, 2020. Popovich was ejected in the second quarter and she assumed the head coaching role.

She became the first-ever female head coach in the NBA's Summer League in 2015, and become the first female NBA head coach to win a Summer League title. In addition, she was interviewed for the Bucks coaching spot in 2017.

Hammon has paid her dues and is primed to take over a team whether in San Antonio or elsewhere.

Other candidates include Chauncey Billups, Dawn Staley, and Mike D'Antoni.
