Etiquettes (Adaab) of visiting the Prophet’s Grave

•           It has been noted that many people do not fully appreciate the spiritual benefits and sawab of attendance due to a lack of knowledge. When performing Ziyaarat, certain etiquettes must have to follow. These etiquettes (Adaab) were taught to us by the Sahabah (R.A). They are also referred to as the Sunnah of visiting. Let us take a look at a few of them:

•           A visitor should enter Masjid-e-Nabvi ﷺ with his right foot first, reciting the supplication (dua) of entering mosques.

•           In order to salute the Masjid, one must offer two Rakat. He’s also free to offer any prayer he wants.

•           It is best to approach the pulpit and offer the prayer in such a manner your right elbow touches the pillar as much as possible.

Abu Huraira reported God’s Messenger as saying,

“The space between my house and my pulpit is one of the gardens of paradise, and my pulpit is upon my tank.”

 (Mishkat al-Masabih; 694)

•           After praying, the person should approach the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ grave. He must say Salawat by keeping his face towards the grave as well as his back towards the Qiblah.

•           The person then must request Allah to forgive his wrongdoings by truly repenting. Then he should supplicate for whatever benefits he seeks in this life and hereafter.

•           One of the most significant blessings of visiting the Prophet’s graveyard is that you become eligible for his intercession (shafa’at).

•           On the right side of the grave of Prophet, Muhammad ﷺ is the grave of his beloved companion, Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (R.A). You must recite the Salawat on his grave.

•           There is also the grave of Hazrat Umar Bin Khattab (R.A). It is situated to the right of Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique’s grave (R.A). You also must recite the Salawat at his grave.

•           You can request Allah SWT to bestow your wish by making Prophet Muhammad ﷺ the waseela. The more heartfelt your love for Allah, His Messenger, and the companions, the more quickly your supplications (dua) will be accepted.
