Teacher Loan Card

What is a Teacher Loan card?

Teacher Loan cards are a special privilege granted to educators and patrons who work for institutions and facilities that educate or care for children in Mecklenburg County. Teacher Loan cards are intended to benefit the students.

What are the benefits?

Teachers may borrow up to 30 items at a time for classroom use for six weeks with no renewal. Certain formats are excluded and some loan periods are not extended. Overdue fines and all other policies and restrictions apply. As a reminder, items for personal use should be checked out on personal library cards.

Who qualifies for a teacher loan card?

Teachers who are employed by an educational institution in Mecklenburg County (religious, public and private schools, certified home-schools, licensed child-care providers, recreational leaders, student teachers, etc.) may have Teacher Loan borrowing privileges.

Applying for and renewing a Teacher Loan card

Teachers can apply for Teacher Loan cards at any local branch. Once they have applied, they will need to visit one of our branches to present any of the following items as confirmation of eligibility:

  • school ID badge

  • copy of a contract or letter confirming employment

  • paystub

  • printout of online pay information

  • home school certificate

Teacher Loan cards must be renewed and eligibility confirmed each year. Cards expire annually on August 15.
