Thank you for loving me when I wasn’t lovable.

When Fate Was Forbidden is A Amaro’s debut book and it was amazing! I binged this nearly 500 page book in a day because I couldn’t put it down and needed to know what happened.

Love doesn’t have to make sense

It did take me a little while to get into it at the start and I wasn’t really a fan of either the hero or the heroine 🫣 BUT as the story got going I fell in love with them both, especially Tai. Tai’s character growth was on point!

Both the hero and the heroine are Muslim and there is a lot of religious aspects involved in this story so please be aware of that going in. Trigger warning for religion and abuse.

And do you know how I know that he loves you too? Because you don’t fall in love with someone who always sees your smile, you fall in love with someone who finds you in the pouring rain, picks you up, and holds you until the storm passes.

If you love any of these then you should definitely a check out When Fate Was Forbidden.

💛Forbidden
💛He Falls first
💛Bad Boy/ Good Girl
💛Enemies to lovers
💛Found Family
💛Angst
💛A cliffhanger with bomb after bomb from the author that you never saw coming that will leave you yelling at the friend who recommended this book to you.

I need book 2!

This could’ve been a 5 star worthy book if it didn’t shit on every single Islamic belief, it almost felt Islamophobic.

On the name of being ‘realistic’, all this book is doing is teaching Muslim girls how their religion is holding them back. Hating on your religion has become so 2012 please come back to reality, people are embracing their identity and are proud of it. If you don’t consider yourself a ‘perfect’ Muslim, please don’t go writing books about it. Don’t use my religion for your content. If you don’t agree with the concepts in Islam DONT WRITE ABOUT IT, why would you make up your own interpretations about it and publish it for the whole world to read it when you know how misjudged Islam already is, you sending Muslims back 20 years. While we’ve been begging the world to see the we aren’t some barbaric religion, that oppress women and more and more proud hijabi women are making a name for themselves on huge platforms, you bringing back the stereotypes that was set 20 years ago. Once again, don’t make my religion your content, my religion isn’t open to YOUR interpretation that does more harm to our community than good. The writer didn’t even know that Muslim women don’t change their surname to their husbands after marriage.

The mmc constantly misinterpreted every single Islamic ruling but the so called ‘good little Muslim girl’ didn’t correct him once, but as soon as he spoke against her toxic father, she slapped him. GIRL WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?

The one thing this book did accurately, was to show how some Muslim girls are manipulated by loser mediocre men to give up their beliefs. How is it that almost all the characters in this book are ‘Muslim’ but none of them are actually Muslims. How are they all only hating their religion?

To young Muslim girls reading this, stay away from men like taimur, you deserve the world, you don’t have to change for a man who sleeps around and can’t control his urges when he’s with you, your religion is not holding you back, you don’t need to go against your religion to have fun, you will find a good man who’ll respect your beliefs, you will find good friends who respect your beliefs, stay away from people who make you question your identity. Muslim men aren’t animals, who either sleep around and are drunk all the time or who hit their daughters and force restrictions on them. Muslim men are so much better than anything this writer has written about. (expect saad, who was the perfect match for layla but apparently too boring for the writer, because he didn’t fit her ‘bad boy’ norms)

RE: As a fellow muslim, I need to say this because the way my relegion was represented in this book irked me. IT MORE THAN IRKED ME. And as someone who loves reading, I couldn't just do nothing when the Muslim rep in a literary content seemed like a personal insult to me. Hence, the spiteful review.

Someone take this book down. I hate how they represented Islam and knew it would be bad before getting into it, If I could rate it in negatives, I would. But seriously, toying with religion???
Not only that, but the FMC was an innocent do good Muslim apparently, and her love interest, a Muslim only by name. Ughhhhhh. If you want to represent Islam in books, do it the right way. Maybe the way S.K Ali did it. Sure, hers wasn't perfect. But it was close, it was certainly as halal as romance could get. Also, why am I writing about another book????
Wtv, just saying, this needs to be taken off the market.

Overall: 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot/Storyline: Chef's kiss and addicting
This book was hands down one of my all time favorite reads. I loveds the forbidden aspect, the character development - the prologue and that ending has me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for book 2. This was my first book where the MC was muslim with very strong religious beliefs, I learned a lot from this book and loved the forbidden aspect with the H, who is also muslim, but doesnt follow the religion closely. The chemistry between the characters is amazing and I absolutly loved all of the side characters! I am truly shocked this is A. Amaro's debute book and cant wait to read book 2!

Favorite Quotes

"But that's the thing about time, it's never right. It keeps moving whether you like it or not. Time is the biggest deception, pretending it's in our favor when in reality, it's never on our side."

"From the outside, we looked like we hated each other, but our bodies told a different story, a story that was going to ruin everyone around that table forever."

“Fire? Then maybe you should call me Arsonist, and not Pearl,” she said. I should have known that she was going to light up my life.

The sad thing about meeting your soulmates is that you don't always end up with them, that sometimes you make decisions that drive you away from one another, setting your life on a path isolated from the one you were destined to always love, with no way of returning home.

I can honestly say that this is the best book I’ve read this year and one of my all time favorites.

Layla and Taimur’s love is so pure and simple, nobody should be against a couple that fits so perfectly together. But life is more complicated and when I tell you that everything is against their blossoming love I’m not exaggerating.
The level of angst in this story could easily be suffocating and overwhelming but in When fate was forbidden it’s exactly the opposite. Taimur and Layla love for each other is intoxicating to read, their chemistry left me breathless and I had to take breaks to be able to handle how hot they were together even as platonic lovers making their relationship compatible with Islam. Even as enemies fighting their pull toward each other.

« The first thing I noticed about her was her eyes. They were green, with a tint of brown - or were they brown with a tiny bit of green? Whatever they were, they were stunning and burning into me as I stood motionless, paralysed even, not able to look away or say anything. The cigarette that had been perfectly balanced between my lips tumbled to the ground, as did every logical thought in my mind. » Tai

Taimur’s pov was exhilarating to read. I felt like I was HER. I felt everything :his desperation, the intensity of his attraction, the way every move she made and everything she said consumed him and affected him like never before. He also was deliciously possessive just the right amount to get us weak for him not annoyed or creeped out like with some heroes.

« Taimur you make me feel things I’m not supposed to feel. Things I’ve been conditioned to believe are wrong until I’m married, but they feel so right with you. » Layla

Laily felt like me. Even though I don’t practice Islam, I understood everything she went through. Everything she felt is normal for a young adult it’s only magnified by her religious background and her past.

I love how in spite of her fears she always felt brave, in spite of her beliefs she’s always open minded and loving of every humans. The way she cared for not only Taimur but everybody around her is admirable. She reminded me of Tatiana in The bronze horseman.

« Layli, in love, there will always be a risk of getting hurt but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the ride. » Zoya

The cast of secondary characters are all scene stealers. They complimented the story perfectly. Zoya is Layla’s sister and she lives her live totally differently without her Layla has no one to talk too, to encourage her to live her live and find happiness and to let go. Without her we wouldn’t see how open and non judging Layla can be.

It’s the same with Taimur’s cousins and brothers and his sister. With them we get to see a completely different side of him. The way he cares and protect his sister , his responsible towards his cousins and little brother, the way he admires his father. We get to see that he is more than parties and one night stand and more than deserving of Layla’s trust and affection.

This is the kind of books that got me addicted to romance. This is the kind of epic love stories and unique stories we need to get people passionate again about this genre and about book blogging . This is a tale as old as times but when an author write with a book that mirror their entire soul it always feel original and unique.

I honestly can’t wait to read book two, not only to find out how Layla and Tai story end but also to be with the characters I’ve come to love again.

I was given this ARC in exchange for a honest review.

FORBIDDEN & EMOTIONAL DEBUT ROMANCE!

Forbidden romances are one of my favorites to read and this one hit a completely different realm for me than what I've read in the past. Although I have read a couple forbidden romances that had religious aspects to it; it wasn't on the same level as this one. Reading this one gave me insight into a religion that I have no experience with or knowledge of and it was truly interesting reading about their culture and beliefs along with some of the conflicts that they experience while navigating a love life. I loved that the heroine and hero had opposing views on their own religion. It made for some very sensitive & impassioned conversations between these two.

This book was fast paced, emotional and filled with tons of angsty moments. There were times I wasn't sure if I wanted to love or hate Tai because of his decisions. Obviously, I ended up loving him. It's possible it was because of his character growth. Layla knocked this playboy right off his game and it was entertaining to see. But once he made up his mind and knew what he wanted, he went after it! Especially once he was told that he could have what he wanted, the gloves were off then and nothing could hold him back. I ADORED THAT!!!

There was a bit of repetitiveness when one chapter leaves off and another one starts. Although that bothered me; it only happened a few times and they were short moments. If I gave partial stars, I'd definitely give this one 4.5 stars. Even with that little issue; Layla & Tai kept me completely captivated! I basically inhaled this book once I was able to sit down and read it.
And to be honest, I'm kind of in awe that this is A. Amaro's debut novel. I am DYING for book 2! I need it!

This book represents Islam in a bad and unacceptable way. The male character, taimur, throughout half of the book made it seem like being a Muslim and a hijabi is a "prison" that should be escaped. He shamed the female character, Layla, and disrespected her beliefs, thinking she was being caged or forced to believe in God right after he slept with her sister. And you know what the funniest thing is? The idea of his "freedom" was drinking alcohol, sleeping with strangers, and partying 24/7. I understand that no one is perfect and I am not saying I want Muslim characters who practice Islam flawlessly, but Taimur's behaviour and words literally screamed " islamophobia" by always saying " your God won't strike you for drinking" " your God won't strike you for taking off your scarf" , like dude, whoever teached you Islam deserves to rot in hell. I don't even understand why he lives by the name of Islam, if he doesn't believe in God or Islamic values at all? At least if he's afraid of his family's wrath, he should not claim he's a muslim if he's disrespecting God and Islamic beliefs. And you know the biggest hypocrisy of all of this? He wanted his sister to cover herself and wear hijab while telling Layla to take off hers😂. In my opinion, Islam shouldn't have been a part of such a taboo subject if it is meant to represent it in such a way that would seem oppressive to many people. I liked the writing style and I think the plot itself was interesting, but as a Muslim, I disliked the way Islam was written in this.

“Tell me you feel the same way, tell me I’m the reason you breathe because I promise you, if you give me a chance, I’ll be your air forever.”

My first book of the new year and it was amazing!
I am in awe of this authors debut book. This story has everything and more that one looks for in a romance read. Layla is at University and trying to find her own self while experiencing her first love and remaining true to her Muslim beliefs. Taimur is a typical university student having fun and enjoying his playboy lifestyle with his friends. They meet in a awkward way and at first don’t want to be in each others lives. This of course leads to angst, slow burn and drama.
I also loved the side characters and how they were layered within the story.

If you want an emotional, forbidden love, page turning read with enduring and complex characters I highly recommend you pick this up on its release January 2nd.

I can’t wait for Book 2 of this duet! That cliffhanger!

I savoured it , breathed it , ate it and most of all got consumed by it ...

Layla meets Taimur on her first day to college after him sleeping with her sister and that's when spark fly. Both of them fought tooth and nails to just forget about it but neither of them succeeded.
Their chemistry was beyond insane from enemies to lovers to lovers it was an intense journey .
I have to be honest that I found Layla annoying at point because come on girl give the guy a break and there is no perfect Muslim guy and honesty Taimur was not bad in my eyes ...he was PERFECT.

He fell for her first and the guy will move mountains for her ... I was mad when I reached the end because why ??? Simply why ? All these questions and I can't wait for the second book.

Unpopular opinion: love is love and I really wished for this trope for so long and the book was PERFECTION.. the writing style, the angst, the world, the character development... 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🔥🔥🔥

PS : First things first, let's establish this book is not a religious book, it has religious, very flawed characters ( who are human by the way) . It does not say that Islam is bad and does not shame Islam.

Newsflash : Muslim people are no saints, we make mistakes, we are flawed,we sleep around, we drink and that's what the characters in the book do simply because they are human and they reflect a deep reality so stop banishing the book and don't turn a blind eye on what we know is true.

TAIMUR AND LAYLA

These two put the crossed in STAR CROSSED LOVERS.

This was such an emotional/fun read. The way these two begin wanting "nothing" from each other to them finding a path to being everything and more to each other had me in awe.

"They say you never forget the actual moment your heart breaks, that you always remember the feeling , the sting and the sharp pain that goes with it, and nothing you ever do, or have been though would compare to that feeling of that agony, that torment or that torture."

My emotions were all over the place while reading this. Its full of so many lessons and don't forget the angst between the MC. Tai and Pearl have etched their way into my heart and I'm not complaining.

However that ending is brutal. Now I'm looking forward to book two.

Thank you Grey's Promotions and A. Amaro for the arc.

Honestly reading this book had me feeling all sorts of things. As a Muslim growing up in the west I understand how some of the things written have some truth to it however, the Muslim representation could have had some work done to it.

It’s bad enough that in this day and age Muslims are shown as people who are oppressed, who are forced into a religion; to follow these rules that supposedly ruin our lives. Which is not the case at all, well, majority of the times.

However, it’s true especially now religion can be quite tough to undertake with all the influence around us, so where Taimur comes from is completely understandable.
Being swayed by someone with strong opinion can mess with one’s head, can make you question but Layla seemed to have been very strong minded in her beliefs so for her to end up giving in to the temptations was quite upsetting to see. It made her seem like she had no choice but to give in just because of a boy?

I get that this is fiction but honestly it could have been written slightly better where we didn’t look oppressed you know what I mean? As a stubborn reader I had to finish the book and I am curious as to see what the writer has has entailed for the second book.

I was completely blown away by this debut novel by A. Amaro. I appreciated the raw and genuine vulnerability and the unique storyline had me tied me up in knots. I felt an immediate connection to this dynamic cast of characters and found myself emotionally invested from the start. It’s not very often that I read a book that shreds my heart and shatters my soul, but Layla and Tai’s emotionally charged journey did just that.

Absolutely loved this angsty, forbidden new adult romance! It gave all the star-crossed-lovers vibes, with a huge emotional punch and characters I fell for so hard.

Layla and Tai had so much chemistry. My heart ached for them. They had serious outside forces keeping them apart, and at times I was so angry for them.

A. Amaro did a brilliant job drawing out the angst and longing of a true star-crossed-lovers relationship. So much emotion!

I am a Christian and to read something about another religion, especially about Muslims, is already pretty interesting for me. The book got my attention and curiosity right from the very first chapter!

This book is in dual pov and follows the young love story of Taimur and Layla in their university years. Both are Muslims but the latter take their traditions and beliefs seriously as she was raised by a renowned Muslim leader/preacher while the former, Taimur, disregards it and cries to be free. Free from the cage that their religion has set for them especially with the rules in male-female relationship and marriage.

But regardless of religion, this book cries far more about serious social issues like islamophobia, a glimpse of terrorism and how it affects the lives of other muslims who aren’t involved at all; gender inequality, drug addiction and FORBIDDEN love. How love is so hopeful and exclusive like a bubble when you’re younger and how life circumstances can desperately burst it.

It was a rollercoaster ride! If you’re a sucker for romance and spicy 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ reads, this is a must read for you! I highly recommend it for it was easy to get through. The writing style was very on point and i love the development of each characters, as well.

See the link in the comments section to grab your copy!

I give it 4.5 stars!! Only because i hope the second book could have been part of the first one already! I hate the long suspense! Haha but on the good side, this is a quick read that will make you reminisce your first love and fall in love all over again! But don’t say i did not warn you for potential 💔. 🤭

•second chance romance
•possessive mmc
•heartbreaking

•big city romance

YEP! All those tropes in one book! A. Amaro truly spoilt us.

4.25 Pearl Stars!!

I was scrolling on social media when i stumbled across a post about this book and it caught my eye right away. I knew i had to read it. I picked it up and got right into it.

Layla and Taimur's journey pulled me in! A person can crash into your life and it changes everything as you know it, something Layla and Taimur learn. Can these two go against everything standing in their way? or was their love story one doomed from the start?

I really liked how quickly Layla and Taimur captured my attention and how this story touched on religion which brought such realness. I could feel every bit of the connection, chemistry, and forbidden between Layla and Taimur. I didn't know how these two would tackle everything in their lives and which way their story would go which made for a page turner for me. I loved the way both Layla and Taimur had me going through such a range of emotions from start to finish!

With When Fate Was Forbidden, A. Amaro has created such a great book that had my heart and i feeling so dang much! The writing stayed on my mind. I can't wait for more from this author!

4.5 ⭐️
3 🌶️

It was a good read for sure. Would definitely recommend to read except for those who might get offended at the portrayal of the religion.

Thoughts on the book:

- Loved how strong Laylas beliefs were portrayed as a Muslim living in the West.

- The enemies phase of their relationship was written well

- The friendship phase of the relationship was to die for.

- The friendship that Taimurs brothers had with Layla could make anyone jealous <3.

- Taimur was a strong non-believer and Layla was a strong believer, both had opposite rules for themselves however neither pushed each other to stop following their respective rules.

- Their love is so strong that both broke their rules for the each other.

- The smut was spicy which I didn’t expect at all.

- The author kept me at the edge of my seat to know the mystery of who Layla married at the end. Indeed it was a shocker and I loved the cliffhanger (only drawback being that we need to wait for the next book to come out.)

The only drawback for me was the portrayal of the religion the author explained how certain things were restricted in Islam but there is a reason behind everything and I feel that should’ve been mentioned as many non- Muslim may also read the book but get a wrong message of the religion being too oppressive.

Many Muslims may frown upon Muslim characters in the book that don’t follow the religion at all but I feel that wasn’t wrong because many people are like that in the real world and Islam teaches us to not judge anyone whatsoever.

Overall I feel the author has done a great job and written well despite this being her first book.

Eagerly waiting for the second book yet don’t want the author to rush and ruin it.
We know you’re working really hard, take your time :)

Where do I even start with this forbidden romance story?!

Layli and Tai stole my heart from the beginning and don’t even get me started on the brothers! The author really makes you fall in love with all the characters.

Seeing their love grow through the story felt like I was a part of their family. The ups and downs pull at your heart so much and seeing Taimur’s character change was such a lovely thing to see.

It was such an eye opener reading about how different cultures are.

The ending..my gosh. What a cliffhanger!

I still can’t believe this is the authors first book it’s honestly amazing and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Please people do yourself a favour and skip this book.

It’s so misleading and quite frankly Islamophobic.

This author has zero knowledge when it comes to Islam.
It’s truly frustrating how I assume this author not being Muslim herself talk about such a big topic without acknowledging or bringing positive things to light.

How can every so called Muslim in this book is against being one? Islam is not a difficult religion but thanks to this author she sure made it her goal to sound like one.

Babe, it’s the CULTURE not the RELIGION itself that you spoke so shit about and probably mislead people that know nothing about the religion.

let’s educate ourselves about said topic before we put things out for the world to read mmkay?

The people that rated it 5 stars clearly know nothing about Islam and found it to be ‘ooh it’s so taboo’

LOL and apparently the author said this is not a religious book? Who is this girl fooling?

Oh and I don’t give one shit that this is fiction and I shouldn’t take it that personal because I do🤗

What an utter disappointment.

So many emotions... I cannot process them all right now.
A. Amaro created a masterpiece of beautiful characters.

Based in the Muslim community of London, this group of young adults are attending uni together while trying to manage their own heartbreaks, problems, and conflicts with their religion.
Layla, and her older sister Zoya, live in a flat together while attending university.

Layla is dedicated to her religion and struggles to remain pure and headstrong in her beliefs.

Zoya is a free spirit who wants to experience life before her arranged marriage after graduation.

The girls cross paths with Taimur (Tai) who instantly feels a love connection to Layla, who is his opposite in so many ways.

Tai's brother, Kassim, and cousins, Abs and Nabeel, all share a flat and go to the same university.

Despite his efforts, Tai can't shake Layla, especially with his family becoming friends with her and her sister.

Nabeel introduces Layla to Tai's twin sister, Alia and after their first meeting they become pretty good friends.

Tai isn't one who typically commits and chooses to partake in one night stands, drinking, partying, smoking, and everything their religion goes against.
Layla is straight-laced and wants to follow the rules of Islam entirely, but neither of them can deny their attraction to one another.

To be betrayed by someone so close to you is heartbreaking.

When Fate Was Forbidden by A. Amaro is a terrifically powerful and fascinating crafting book that I felt in love within the very first pages, it is a touching romance drama between two incredibly detailed characters! When Fate Was Forbidden is a story of honor, responsibility, purpose and fate, this book will make you fall in love, will break your heart, will make you cry, and will have you root your heart out for the wonderful characters!
.
WHEN FATE WAS FORBIDDEN is one of the most heartwarming and uniquely beautiful stories I have ever read. Amaro's ability to convey strong emotions and vivid imagery through her writing is absolutely extraordinary, the structure how the Author has crafted the acts is flawlessly and poignantly written and I loved every page of it.
.
A.Amaro has made me sit on the edge if my seat from start to finish, I've never enjoyed two characters more than Layla and Taimur, their personalities were so well developed and the Author has written more than romance, she has melted some honest and raw topics that it made the book feel real and original. The tropes you will find are: second chance love, forbidden love, soulmates, enemies to lovers to enemies and a lot of other great acts that you will not soon forget!
This was a 5/5 and definitely a romance book every Colleen Hoover & Emily Henry fan must read, A. Amaro is a brilliant romance writer and she has written the best debut romance for 2023!

This book. Oh where do I even start with this book?

Layla and Tai are muslims in a western world where it's harder to maintain your religion. Layla is devout, following her beliefs and restrictions. She is the daughter of a preacher and the pressure is on her and her sister more than others.

Tai feels like his religion is cage and breaks the rules on a regular basis. He drinks, does drugs, and is a bit of a playboy. However, he does follow the prayer rules on Fridays.

This all changes when he meets Layla. She is a "Hijabi" and the type of woman he swore he would never get involved with or date.

I really loved this story. I think it got me out of my reading slump. I didn't want to put it down and when I couldn't read due to work or life, I found my thoughts kept drifting back to it.

I enjoyed this book and the way that the couple starts off enemies to lovers. I enjoyed the development and the slight shifting and giving into their feelings that happens.

The first chapter sets up an understanding of the couple that the rest of the book decides to just chuck in the river. Not in a bad way. The book tears down your thoughts and feelings from the first chapter and rebuilds them so you understand how the couple got there. Outside of the first chapter, It's told in a Nine Years earlier flashback.

I am someone whose brain is constantly in overdrive trying to figure out the twists and turns that are coming. I hunt for clues and am desperate to know what the author is only trying to hint at before the big reveal. I was not expecting this one. This book has you thinking one way, with so many clues supporting it, only to realize you were wrong as it throws you for a loop with your jaw on the floor.

I am so eager for the next book and I know I only have to wait a few months but it can't get here soon enough.

5/5 Hands down.

Going to start out with —> I need the second book ASAP. Such a cliffhanger to leave it on!

Reading this debut novel from was a breath of fresh air 💋 Such a unique story, starting off with a bang of excitement that leads you down a road of exploration, transformative love, enlightenment, and bliss. The journey both FMC and MMC take throughout the read are exquisitely done in terms of plot, character development, inner beliefs, and religious philosophy. I was immersed in Islamic culture (in the west) and enjoyed learning more about the religion and aspects of its culture. It’s also currently Ramadan, so Ramadan Mubarak to those who practice ☪️

The story follows Layla and Taimur, Muslims at university in London who lead very different religious lifestyles. The story weaves its way through their lives as both attempt to grow as young adults while maintaining spiritual ties. While Layla is more devout and struggles with her spiritual well being in the west, Taimur is anything but devout and enjoys the party lifestyle. Both can be rather fickle, but that’s normal at this age?

How does this love story unfold? You’ll have to pick it up from KU to find out- the sequel comes out in a month or so!

Honestly, I had very low expectations from this book. "When Fate was Forbidden" features a Muslim love story with a believer female lead and a non-believer male lead.. It starts off a little slow, but picks up after a few chapters. MMC, the bad boy, is stubborn and convinced he's right all the time.. Booze, sex, party is his college life. The FMC is Hijabi and a firm believer. This nice, sweet girl gets caught up in the MMC charm. I have a lot of complaints from the fmc. Her character lacks potency. later in the book, her beliefs seemed to be feeble and naive . Those around her gaslighted her. I feel like as compared to MMC, her character development was lackluster. It was a disappointing read as both the characters and plot were mediocre.

Later, the story appeared immature and rushed. The author says this book is not a religious book but mentions religion often and unnecessarily. It ended on a cliffhanger. Here's hoping the next part doesn't let us down

Cliffhanger

Ok, I was not warned it was a cliff hanger otherwise I would not have read it before the finale of the duet was out. I was excited to read this book as I’m a Muslim girl myself. The story itself was good. Classic love story with hurdles and of course, the twist that made her choose someone else other than him (I’m sure we’ll come to find out that we’ve all heard it before - I would write it out but that would be a major spoiler - We find out by the first chapter she chose someone else so no spoilers here). I don’t think the author got the religion right all the way but I’m not mad cuz as people, we sometimes make excuses to ourselves and others for the parts of the religion we love and the parts we don’t like to follow. To each his own. Nonetheless, looking forward to book two and more books from this author.

5 ★ This book was so unique and beautiful. The ending shook and broke me, but I seriously loved it. I love a good Brit-Lit book so add that with a spicy romance you’ll get this book. It was was such an emotional read talking about grief, belief, morals, culture and more.

I love Taimur, and really felt for him and Layla, because their love is so pure and beautiful. I also genuinely loved the side characters - they were fun and witty.

I also loved how it was one of the first romance books where it talked about Muslim culture in London and how that impacted the characters and how they were seen in society. From Layla wearing hijab, to Tai always questioning her belief. It was definitely fresh and different.

This is a book you don’t know, but you should! So add it to your tbr ASAP!

Thanks to the author for the gifted copy in return for an honest review.

Insightful. Beautifully written. Heartbreaking.
.
When Fate was Forbidden is a heartwarming and heartbreaking story about two people so opposite but so right for each other in a world of laws, beliefs and what society dictates.
When love and destiny finds a way to mess around in the most unexpected way.
I've felt for Layla and Taimur, their struggles, their dreams and their love.
.
The end left me speechless, obviously wanting to read more..
.
Love how the author manages to write a Muslim girl living in a modern world .. in London no less..
.
Raw, angsty, deep emotional yet beautiful in its way.

Ya'll!! I am so surprised that this is A. Amaro's first book because it was amazing- left me with all the feels and still thinking about it weeks later!! You would think she was writing for years. I was lucky enough to beta read this. I am a sucker for the forbidden romance trope this one is 10/10! The characters were so easy to love. It was the perfect mix of romance, spice, banter, angst and plot! I cannot wait to read the second part of the duet!! If you are a book lover, this is a must read!!! You will NOT regret it!
