About Me
Dantrel Robinson aka “Fave” is a musician, singer/songwriter, producer, illustrator and writer - whose many talents are rooted in his love for music. He was a late bloomer who started playing the piano at 18 and went on to study under renowned urban producer/bassist, Colin Wolfe.
From 2000 to 2004 he was a radio marketing consultant where he immersed himself in radio production, advertising and sales. In 2003, he joined Lightsout Entertainment, an indie label where he produced two albums and a number of singles. During this time, he also performed throughout the Southeast as part of an urban alternative quartet, The G&S Band.
In 2006, he launched the Friday Favecast, a music podcast dedicated to celebrating the best in indie soul and progressive hip hop while delivering fun, social commentary. He’s interviewed artists such as Eric Roberson and The Foreign Exchange in addition to being commissioned to produce a special show for the US Navy. The Friday Favecast won “Best Podcast” at the Black Weblog Awards in 2007 and 2010.
In 2009, he created and hosted the first Podcamp Houston - a new media conference for podcasters, bloggers and media enthusiasts.
As a musician/songwriter, he currently collaborates with other musicians via filesharing and cloud storage. In 2010, he released Contempojazzsoulhop, a 5-song EP co-produced with Todd Kelley and Doug Ramsay. The entire project was produced virtually.
As a writer/blogger, he has written for websites such as SoulBounce, Blogging in Black and GROOVMNT. He recently published his first novel, The Art of Making Love, a music-inspired story about a band in Atlanta.
In celebration of soul and hip-hop, he created A Pug Named Fender, an online comic strip blending illustration, digital media and music. This “webcomic” often features illustrated versions of musical icons such as Questlove, Jill Scott and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Fave has a B.A. in organizational communication with minors in graphic design and music theory from Indiana University. He has served as a creative thought leader for companies such as Coca-Cola, BP and Hewlett-Packard.
He was born in East Chicago and raised in Gary, Indiana. Throughout his adventures, he has lived in what he calls the ‘civil rights tour’ - having relocated to Atlanta, Birmingham and Montgomery over the years. Despite the southern lifestyle, he is a city lover at heart.
He now lives in Houston, Texas.
