A person going to a Florida post office was shocked to find a 7-foot-long alligator in the lobby Wednesday morning.
Hernando County deputies responded to the post office at 3:32 a.m. to find the alligator had gotten in through the automatic double doors.
A trapper helped safely remove the alligator from the lobby, deputies said.
WPBF 25 News' affiliate WBAY said the sheriff's office received calls Tuesday about a gator in the area, but it was never found. Deputies believe it could be the same one and that it could have wandered from a nearby pond.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission considers an alligator a “nuisance” animal if it is 4 feet or longer and deemed a threat to people, pets or property.
