Exclusive: Ex-St Helens star Paul Sculthorpe predicts the 2022 Super League Grand Final winner

With Paul Sculthorpe comes an incredible amount of respect, so whenever he makes a prediction, you just have to listen.

Having won everything possible as a rugby league star for St Helens, with a total of four Grand Finals, four Challenge Cups and two World Club Challenges, as well as becoming the first (and currently only) player to win the Man of Steel Award on two consecutive occasions, Sculthorpe also conquered the international scene with England and Great Britain.

The talented loose-forward and playmaker made 27 appearances for Great Britain between 1996 and 2006 and earned four England caps in that time too.

After three years of winning the Super League, as well as a Challenge Cup success in 2021, Sculthorpe cannot see past St Helens repeating their Grand Final exploits for a fourth season in a row.

“I can’t see anything apart from four in a row with Saints,” Sculthorpe told Serious About Rugby League.

“I think they look by far the strongest in the competition again – they have lost a few key players but recruited really well.

“It’s still to be proven but on the back of the last three dominant years, I can’t choose anyone else.”

It remains to be seen whether Sculthorpe’s prediction will come true, but Saints head coach Kristian Woolf has added Will Hopoate, Konrad Hurrell, Joey Lussick, Curtis Sironen, James Bell and project Danny Hill to his squad.
