KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional has hinted at its willingness to help form a stable government, says its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"We are ready to put aside our prior differing sentiments.

"Therefore, Barisan will remain committed in making its contribution to see that a stable government can be formed," he said in a statement early Sunday (Nov 20) morning.

He also noted that Barisan has always been committed in assuring good relations between states in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak.

"We are ready to be a bridge to strengthen this relationship," he said after issuing a statement acknowledging the results of the 15th General Election.

In the statement, he said the coalition accepts and respects the voice of the rakyat, which was done through the ballot box.

"Barisan (sees) that the results of GE15 represent significant indications given by the people towards us," he noted.

He said Barisan will focus on how to return strength to its components, particularly to overcome current challenges and better understand the needs of the new generation.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had previously said that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was comfortable working with Barisan.

Earlier, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the party will hold two high-level meetings on Sunday.

As at 1.40am on Sunday, the Election Commission website showed Pakatan Harapan had won 62 seats followed by Perikatan Nasional with 60 seats and Barisan, 24.

Meanwhile, GPS secured 22 seats while Gabungan Rakyat Sabah garnered six seats and Warisan two seats. Parti Bersatu Malaysia had one seat and an Independent, one seat.
