ACO Collective: Chamber Music Celebration

Our acclaimed string ensemble bringing together musicians of the ACO with Australia’s most talented young professional string players perform chamber music favourites.

Wednesday 7 December, 7.30pm

The outstanding musicians of our renowned Emerging Artist Program perform alongside their ACO mentors, led by ACO Collective founding Director Helena Rathbone, showcasing chamber music favourites alongside masterworks of the chamber orchestra repertoire.

Corelli’s famous 'Christmas Concerto' lifts the spirits with Baroque flair this festive season, featuring vibrant interplay that showcases these young musicians at their best. Mendelssohn's energetic String Symphony No.9, nicknamed the 'Swiss' for its evocations of Swiss yodelling, sparkles with the composer's youthful brilliance. Then, a dramatic shift in mood with Beethoven’s great String Quartet in F minor, Op.95, arranged for string orchestra. Known as the 'Serioso', its turbulent, tempestuous qualities offer a gripping insight into the soul of this greatest of composers.

Alongside these string orchestra masterworks, chamber works both classic and contemporary will showcase every section of this critically acclaimed ensemble.

Following a successful tour to Western Australia earlier in the year, ACO Collective present this concert at Pier 2/3 before returning to Western Australia again, to present the Vasse Felix Sound and Sense Festival in the Margaret River for 2022.
