Damian Gibson was Wales' 42nd captain after leading the side in both matches in 2004. However his main claim to fame was that he scored North Queensland Cowboys' first ever try back in 1995, which was as a 19-year old on his senior debut. He started his pro career with the Newcastle Knights in their U19 side before spending two seasons with the Cowboys and was their top try scorer in 1996. He moved to the UK permanently in 1997, joining Leeds Rhinos and was named their Player of the Year. He transferred to the Halifax in 1998, which is where he spent the majority of his career. He spent one season at Salford in 2002, two at Castleford Tigers, four more seasons at Halifax before spending the final year of his career, 2009, at Sheffield Eagles. On retirement, Gibbo turned to coaching in the junior set-up at Leeds Rhinos and was also an assistant coach at Wales at the time Iestyn Harris was head coach.
