DALLAS (KRLD) - Over 1,000 inmates of the Federal Correctional Institute at Seagoville, as well as 10 of the prison's staff members, have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a report.
Four of those infected staff members have recovered.
The prison, which houses 1,798 inmates, has seen a exponential rise in virus cases in recent weeks, rising from 668 cases last week, to as many as 1,072 cases as of Friday.
One inmate, a 65-year-old man, has also passed away. The inmate, who was serving a multi-year sentence various charges, did have preexisting health conditions.
Per the NBC News report, the prison has the largest COVID-19 infection numbers of any federal prison in the country and is in sub-optimal condition.
According to NBC DFW, the inmates, who have been complaining to their family and other loved ones about the decline in the prison's conditions, have been relegated to their cells since March. The airconditioning system has also reportedly not been working, with temperatures in the North Texas area soring into the upper 90's as of late.
