Hasbro Figures
While I certainly don't have the entire collection of WWF Hasbro figures, I do have a healthy amount of the chunky, spring-loaded figures that became a staple of 1990s pop culture. Heck, we even stage an annual event on this site known as The Hasbro/Retro Classic.
But which of these figs are the best of the best? Glad you asked....
The Texas Tornado
Part of the third series of Hasbro figures released in 1992, The Texas Tornado came equipped with "Texas Twister" action - a spring-loaded version of his trademark discus punch. And with his trademark cowboy boots and white headband, it was hard to argue the figure didn't capture Tornado's look perfectly.
Kamala
Released in 1993 as part of the seventh series, Kamala is somewhat smaller than he should be. Plus the "jumper" style figure doesn't really suit his gimmick. Having said that: they nailed the iconic Kamala facepaint and outfit, and the moon belly variant of this fig is one of the rarest wrestling figures ever!
Giant Gonzales
Part of the 10th series and released in 1994, Giant Gonzales was the tallest of all Hasbro figures (yes, including Andre The Giant). In addition to an admirable re-creation of The Giant's "fur and airbrushed muscles" outfit, the figure also punches his foes when ever you push down on his left foot.
Sgt. Slaughter
Released in 1992 as part of the third series, Sgt. Slaughter is proudly decked out in his "I want my country back!" camo, army hat and black tanktop. But what's most endearing about this figure is how Sarge points his badass finger in your direction, all while having a scowling look on his face from the top of his head to the bottom of his giant jawline.
Doink The Clown
Released in 1994 as part of the ninth series of figures, Doink is easily the most unusual Hasbro figure in the entire line. His green clown hair is made out of some kind of Barbie doll-style material, and his creepy AF head captures Doink's Pennywise-style face perfectly. Plus his entire outfit is mismatched. What a clown!
Bret "Hit Man" Hart
Released in 1992 as part of the Hasbro's fourth series, this was the first "babyface" figure available of The Hitman, and is arguably one of the coolest figures in the entire collection. Adorned with hearts and the classic pink and black design, Hart's figure is slightly bulkier than others his size, but great for delivering excellence in execution.
Virgil
Wrestling Superstar Virgil was released in 1993 as part of the fifth series of figures. Virgil's very first action figure is accurate to a T from his post-Ted DiBiase phase, including white and red trunks adorned with his name on the front. He also has the "Bodyguard Bash" punch, perfect for decking DiBiase or demanding a few more dollars at the gimmick table.
Big Boss Man
This is actually the second Big Boss Man figure released by Hasbro and a vast improvement on the original. Released in 1992 as part of the Hasbro's third series, the lawmaker has lost a ton of weight, no longer has the heel sunglasses, and is posed to do the "Jailhouse Jam," which is just a regular clothesline to us civilians. But still!
The Mountie
Released in 1993 as part of the fifth series of figures, The Mountie's very first action figure is handsome, brave and strong, decked out in full RCMP gear (he also comes with a shock stick; not pictured here). But my favorite part of this figure is the way he's cocking his head to one side and giving you a badass sneer.
The Honky Tonk Man
There have been several representations of The Greatest Intercontinental Champion over the years in action figure form... but this one is easily my favorite. Released in 1991 as part of the second series of Hasbro figures, The Honky Tonk Man is decked out in his signature blue and white jumpsuit, ready to give the audience what they want - to hear The Honky Tonk Man sing, dance and wrestle! But what's more, HTM is more or less able to deliver his finishing move (called "Rattle and Roll" by the Hasbro folks) making Honky not only fashionable but functional as well!
