Green & Healthy Housing for All

- PDT

The buildings we create affect the communities and the environment they rest within. Join us on August 17th to discuss the affordable housing crisis in the golden state, the third event in our Intersectional Environmentalism series.

Everyone should be able to benefit from the health benefits of green buildings. Hear speaker stories and case studies of LEED Homes that provide safe, equitable, and healthy homes for communities in California. This event will present thought-provocative conversations with leaders in healthy and green affordable housing, including multi-family, ADUs, and other building types.

Explore these important conversations and inform your work:

How can green buildings support occupant and community health?
As we address the critical housing crisis, how do we ensure that these housing projects are providing equitable, quality housing that supports human health and sustainability?
How can we demystify misconceptions of sustainable and healthy affordable housing? And overcome NIMBY-ism?
How can we use the LEED Homes platform to break down some of the barriers to make green, equitable, and sustainable housing for all, no matter the project scale (e.g., ADUs, single-family, multifamily, dense urban infill, transit-oriented design).
Learn tips on how to hold sustainability and health outcomes through value engineering, construction, and bidding

About the Intersectional Environmentalism Series

Read an article about the Intersectional Environmentalism Series, hosted by the USGBC Pacific region to focus on social equity and environmentalism.

What is Intersectional Environmentalism? In the words of activist and eco-communicator Leah Thomas (@greengirlleah):

“This is an inclusive version of environmentalism that advocates for both the protection of people and the planet. It identifies the ways in which injustices happening to marginalized communities and the earth are interconnected. It brings injustices done to the most vulnerable communities, and the earth, to the forefront and does not minimize or silence social inequality. Intersectional environmentalism advocates for justice for people + the planet.”

High standards for affordable housing enable residents to save money on operating costs, enjoy enhanced qualities of life, and experience a greater sense of stability and community.
