As the Washington Nationals tumble down the NL East standings, Max Scherzer could very much be available at the July 30 MLB trade deadline.
And if he is on the move, the ace reportedly has a preferred destination. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported Tuesday morning, citing sources, that Scherzer “strongly prefers the West Coast” if he is to waive his no-trade clause.

That's good news for the Giants, but it of course could turn into bad news if he were to join the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Diego Padres.
Scherzer, 37, was named to his eighth straight All-Star Game this season. Even in his 14th season, he again is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Through 18 starts, Scherzer has a 2.83 ERA and a career-best 0.89 WHIP. Every contender will want him, but it won't be easy.

The three-time Cy Young award winner is in the final season of his seven-year, $210 million contract. His contract for the 2021 season is worth just under $35 million. He can waive his no-trade clause, but with 10-and-5 rights (10 years in the league, five with the same team), he also can veto any trade he wants to.
