About this event

The COVID-19 pandemic is transforming economies and societies across the Asia-Pacific and its impacts will be felt for a long period of time. Countries and organisations across the region are developing strategies, actions and new thinking to speed-up the economic recovery process and transition towards the new normal: from macroeconomic policies to regional trade, value chains and production networks, to the regional economic integration across ASEAN and regional dialogue partners.

This webinar, organised jointly by ERIA and the New Zealand Mission to ASEAN, will discuss and compare different regional strategies and approaches to the economy, trade, production, and economic integration. It is an opportunity to learn about the region’s economic recovery from COVID and the challenges ahead, from speakers in the ASEAN region and New Zealand (the views of the speakers are their own).

Welcome Remarks:

• Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN

• Koji Hachiyama, Chief Operating Officer, ERIA

Convenor and Moderator:

• Alan Bollard, Professor of Asia-Pacific Economies at the Victoria Univeristy of Wellington, ERIA Governing Board Member from New Zealand

The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) is an international organisation providing support to the chair of the ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit through policy research focusing on three pillars: deepening economic integration, narrowing development gaps, and achieving sustainable development in the region.

Its establishment was formally agreed among 16 heads of government at the Third East Asia Summit in Singapore on 21 November 2007. It works closely with the ASEAN Secretariat, researchers, and research institutes from East Asia to provide intellectual and analytical research and policy recommendations.

ERIA was ranked ninth out of 85 top International Economic Policy Think Tanks in the 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report (GGTTI) conducted by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTSCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania.
