An emotional paranormal romance about sacrifice, redemption, and the power of true love.

Cole Matheson didn’t expect the road toward being a successful painter would be paved in gold, but he hoped there’d be a few less potholes. Insidious self-doubt that whispers that he’s no good, talentless, hopeless has him on the brink of despair. Maybe it would be better to just give up.

A midnight visit by a beautiful creature of darkness changes everything…

Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch surrendered to the underworld centuries ago after knowing only pain and suffering during his short life. Now, Ambri makes humans dance on his strings, feeding on their desire for his own pleasure. But his liege lord questions his loyalty and commands him to bring a pure soul into their dark realm.

Cole Matheson seemed like an easy mark, but Ambri didn’t count on his goodness or the depth of his generous spirit that wants Ambri just as he is. And Cole never expected to find in Ambri a muse who unlocks his talent and who might also be what his lonely heart has been searching for. Something fragile yet powerful grows between them, and the possibility of soul-deep love hangs in the balance, if only they have the courage to reach for it.

But fairy tale endings don’t come without a price. The dark forces Ambri answers to have been promised a soul, and they’re coming to collect…

The Muse is book 2 in the Angels and Demons series but can be read as a standalone.

“Okay, I’ll play along. Is that what you are? A…demon?”

“That’s one name for our kind. It has a sleek, sexiness I appreciate.”

“What do you want?”

“An excellent question. I had thought my task here would be rather straightforward but now…” Ambri gave another glance to my paintings, then took the room’s lone chair—a ratty, wooden thing—and dropped elegantly in it. He crossed one ankle over his knee. “I’ll take what I want. Eventually. The lives of humans are pitifully short, even without our interference, so perhaps the better question is, Cole Matheson, what do you want?”

Now that his attention was on me, I felt every bit of it. His words were laced with danger, but the promise of sex dripped from them and emanated off of him like a vapor. I remembered a flash of last night; even terrified out of my mind, I’d wanted him. I came in my sleep…

“Are you a…what do you call it? An incubus?”

His eyebrows rose meaningfully, and he ran his tongue over his full bottom lip, while his gaze raked me up and down. “I can be whatever you want me to be.”

Never in the history of the English language had nine words been so loaded with sex. I felt each syllable in the marrow of my damn bones. My heart was still thumping a hard, steady beat, but the outright terror had mellowed. Moreover, the incessant negative thoughts that plagued me all day and night had gone strangely silent.

Definitive proof this is a dream.

“So that’s a yes?” I said, relaxing slightly, leaning into this madness with curiosity. I couldn’t peel my eyes off of him and didn’t want to.

“It’s a distinctive no,” Ambri said with disdain. “Any demon can take. More powerful is the demon to whom a human freely gives.”

“A demon with morals,” I said. “That’s cute.”

His gaze trailed all up and down my body under the covers; I could practically feel the heat of it. He smiled like a satisfied cat. “Do you find me cute, Cole Matheson?”

I glanced down. I was f*cking hard again. I grabbed another pillow and covered my lap. “Dammit.”

“Don’t feel embarrassed,” Ambri said. “It’s what I do. An incubus feeds on the act of sex. I feed from the need. The lust. The want.” He cocked his head. “Shall I demonstrate?”

“N-no,” I managed, shocked and bewildered that I really f*cking wanting to say yes. The erection under the pillow begged for me to say yes.

To let go…

“You can do anything to me, Cole,” he said against my lips, his eyes hooded and dark. “But not that.”

“You don’t kiss?”

“Never on the mouth. My one and only hard limit.”

“Then I’ll kiss every other part of you instead.”

Wow, I did not expect to love reading The Muse as much as I did, considering my previous track record with Emma Scott, but she honestly blew me away here. While it is part of a duet, this still works well as a standalone that reels you in with its captivating opening. This was a beauty of a paranormal romance with two beautifully developed and well-layered characters that have their own tragic backstories, but somehow worm their way into each other's hearts, defying the darkness that lurks waiting to sink their teeth into their souls. It was a passionate prose of such exquisitely delivered emotions and delicious writing that kept me riveted to the pages till the conclusion ensured that these two forbidden souls were destined to be together - no matter the cost.

“I am a demon of lust and gluttony. I stoke those sins in humans and drive them to forsake all else. To become enslaved to their own need.”

Since the late 1700s, when he was betrayed by the one he loved in Paris, Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch sold his soul to the devil - and in the process, becoming a sinful demon who lures humans over to the dark side. And, when he's tasked to bring dear sweet-loving and struggling artist, Cole Matheson down to the despair of Death, he's confident that nothing will get in his way - a task so easy that he can even get something out of it, as well - a portrait that'll capture his soul in a way no one has ever attempted. 😥 But, he doesn't know that his heart will soon belong to someone else - that somehow, after 200+ years, the desire to be human again will resurface - that feelings of wanting someone to hold and be close to - to let go of the loneliness that he's been harboring all these years, and finally let a glimmer of hope light it's way into his life. ☀️☀️

“I can be whatever you want me to be.”

Never in the history of the English language had nine words been so loaded with sex.”

Cole Matheson was the embodiment of hapless artist, helpless in love and life and loves with all of heart and wants to have someone to give his love to. A beautiful warm soul who no matter how intimidating or daunting Ambri appears to be, he never fears him - he wants to give him all the love and affection that he's been missing. 🥹🥹 I love how much he was so very willing to help in anyway he could - how he ached to comfort him and reassure him that he saw he as he was. His artistic talents may have flourished with Ambri, but all he hoped was to capture him in the ideal embodiment of how he saw him - 'almost as if he weren’t a demon at all,' but someone whose light had been perpetually dimmed, but was steadily growing brighter by the day as he spent more time with him. 🤍🤍

“You dream of me?”

“I think so. It’s been hard to tell the difference, lately. You’ve been following me, haven’t you?” He smiles faintly. “You follow me into my sleep.”

anigifaga

All their little moments together were so beautifully written, with the touch of spice that ignited whenever they were around each other. 🤌🏻🤌🏻 The natural progression of being total strangers than friends to lovers to actual soulmates was shown in all the little moments that were so beautifully written. The gentle flirting and soft teasing - the hesitant tastes of the forbidden fruits, which eventually ripened into a flair of a romance neither of them could take back.💟💟

“Bloody fucking hell.” He whirled around and strode to me. “What is this hold you have over me? Who are you?”

I smiled tremulously, the calm to his storm, and took a step toward him. “I’m no one—”

“Lies, all lies,” he muttered, the fight slowly draining out of him. “You are the angel of death. Mine. You’ll be the death of me. Mark my words.”

🫠🫠

The push and pull, the yearning and the wanting, the defying and the denying - how Ambri was so very taken from Cole from the beginning, but knew he couldn't have him, because he's only serving one purpose - to paint his portrait and then once the deal is done he'll claim this pure soul, all bets are off. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 But, Cole, the precious cinnamon roll that he is, wants more - craves more and he when he finds out, he cares even more so - loves him to the point that they can't go back from it - that he'll be willing to fulfill what he has to do - just to save Ambri from lifelong torture of not completing his promise. 🥰🥰

“If you love Cole, nothing will be enough,” Casziel says. “If you love him, you will die a thousand deaths, burn to ash a thousand times for him. To protect him. To save him.”

“If you love him, Ambri, you need no angel to tell you what’s in your heart. That love will save you. I swear it.”

🥺🥺

I will admit that while the writing was gorgeous and so very smooth, the plot towards the ending sorta meandered and floundered in a way that made it feel rather abrupt and also too convenient. 😐 Either Emma Scott was in a rush to wrap up the story, so there were suddenly impromptu actions taking place that didn't make any sense, or she was so adamant to have a happy ending that she didn't quite know how to explain the sudden change of heart for certain points. 🤷 If not, for the rather weak ending, this was a stunning read that I was very glad that I gave myself a chance to read. 😊

Outstanding M/M paranormal romance!!!! I wish I could give this book 10 stars!!!! Emma Scott has written a deeply moving tale full of passion, love, redemption and characters with so much soul and heart!! I love Ambri so fucking much!!! This beautiful and very complexed demon had my heart in The Sinner and I wanted to know everything about him! He is beautiful and vain and totally self absorbed but their was also a sadness that I picked up. So when Emma said he was getting his own book I was ecstatic and over the moon waiting for the release of Muse. So much was answered and it all fit! Knowing his backstory ripped my fucking heart out and left me a crying mess!!! A boy born to late life parents who didn't have the time or energy to raise a child and who pawned him off on a friend of the family who became like a uncle to a lonely boy craving attention but it all changed when he turned 10 the once loved " uncle" actually turned out to be a sick depraved monster who raped him repeatedly for over 3 years till he got up the courage to tell his parents who basically sent him away and wiped any mention of him from history. And then at 24 his lover Armand leaves him for a woman and tells him he was just a fuck and a good time. All his mortal life was just looking for someone to love him. Ambri has no love for humans so when he's told to prove his loyalty by bringing a innocent like Cole Matheson to the other side he sees it as a means to a end. He might not want to but what has a human ever given him but pain. But I so wanted him to get a happy ending. Cole was awesome as well and I could see why Ambri was hooked from the beginning! Even though he was at the lowest point in his life with his dreams basically going up in smoke as a talented artist and being slowly drove mad by the demon bitch witch sisters he still had a beautiful and warm soul and a genuine way of looking past Ambri's appearance and seeing into his broken soul. No one ever cared what Ambri thought or felt but Cole did! And even when the truth comes out Cole doesn't care, he loves Ambri and even with hell breathing down their necks and demons at every turn their love shines like the sun and with a little help from a guardian angel and a ultimate sacrifice they get their happily ever after. Yes theirs some really steamy M/M moments but it was second to their love story! It was epic and beautiful!!! Emma Scott is a fabulous storyteller!! And this to me is her finest achievement!!! I will never forget
Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch!! Which is good because he wouldn't hear of it!😉 Until next time Luv's💕💋

Emma Scott writes paranormal romance to my heart’s desire. The Muse has paranormal elements, a dark intriguing ambience and relatable topics that are cleverly integrated into the plot of the story.

Cole and Ambri are two souls that are destined for each other and omg how I fell for them both. Two flawed and lost souls but together they find what they had giving up searching for. Love!
The slow burn and sunshine/grumpy trope was so good. Cole and Ambri gave me so much more than I expected. All the feels and not just in the romance department. The feeling of hopelessness, loneliness, not being worthy and the comfort of being in another’s arms. It was so beautifully written because I didn’t just feel it in the words but also in their actions. This is what Scott does so well. Making the reader visualize and feel the words, the characters. Cole painting Ambri and capturing him in “Morning Light” . Masterfully executed.

Also integrating historical events was sheer genius and the revelation was amazing. Characters from the previous book appear and I enjoyed every moment.
With The Muse Scott definitely exceeded my expectations and I hope this isn’t the last I read of the Angels and Demons universe cause this story was utterly fantastic! Wow. #LoveAlwaysWins

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Standalone book 2 of Angels and Demons series
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:
4.25 Stars

As an artist, Cole Matheson not only struggled financially but was also artistically plagued by self-doubt. Just when he was about to lose all hope, along came Ambri who became his muse and changed his career trajectory. However, fame and fortune meant nothing to a lonely heart. And to have it all required a price neither of them could afford to pay.

I enjoyed the overall storyline with how their lives were entwined. But I did feel the ending was a little too easy and convenient to leave a deeper impact. Cole and Ambri fit well together. I loved how vulnerable and human Ambri was, and his past and personality made him endearing and amusing. Even though Cole had nothing, his heart was willing to give everything.

The Muse is a story of understanding self-worth and redemption. It would appeal to readers who enjoy MM paranormal romance.

Cole + Ambri

To avoid a thousand years of agony in hell, Ambri needs to bring a shiny new fresh soul to his 'boss'. Meaning he has to convince some innocent person to want to die and follow him into hell.
He decides to try it with Cole. Who is the best friend of Lucy from the first book. And Ambri is a bit mad at her and her former demon lover Casziel.
But Cole is not exactly what he was expecting.
Cole is an artist. But ever since he graduated from the art academy in London his life sucks. He doesn't have any luck with his art or with anything basically.
He would be the perfect depressed candidate for Ambri to convince to jump off a bridge.

But that's not what's going to happen .....

So. Here we are having read another Emma Scott paranormal romance.
And we hate paranormal! LOL!
But we read everything Emma sends our way and so we read this one too.
And it was adorable. And heartbreaking and dark and sad and hopeless and depressy. But it was also really sweet and funny and you just want those two to find their happily ever after with each other. Which won't be easy obviously. But we really enjoy watching them fight for it.
I really liked reading this.
I could totally see this as a movie or tv show!
(Why am I always saying WE? Weirdo!)

THE MUSE was an adorable dark paranormal M/M love story! Run to your nearest book seller on January 8 for your own Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch - this one is MINE!

Suspecting loosing their Nightbringer, Archduke Casziel with the aide of Ambri, he is tasked with bringing an innocent new soul into their fold. It's either that or thousand years of unbearable pain in hell.
While Ambri did help Casziel to get his HEA, he is very jealous of the life Cas is leading with Lucy.
And to hurt him, Ambri decides Lucy's best friend Cole Matheson's soul will be the innocent he brings to his boss. Because it will hurt Lucy and therefore Cas.

Cole is in a bad place. Life is extremely hard and he is literally battling with the demons hanging around him, whispering dark destructive thoughts into his ear.
Being at the bottom and staring into a deep dark river, is when Ambri finds him. Planning to make him a successful artist to destroy him at the top of his peak, Ambri sets out to execute his plans.

But starting to know who Cole is, his gentle soul and forgiving nature Ambri falls hard for the human, as Cole falls hard for the demon.

While Ambri and Cole are enjoying life together, the clock is ticking and the demon world is closing around them.
But there is unexpected help coming their way!

While I enjoyed Ambri & Cole's story, I would have liked a more explosive ending, with the destruction of Asmodai, the three-headed archduke of hell.
But overall it was a compelling read and a true Emma Scott story.

Once more Emma Scott has created a story that has totally captured my heart and soul. Cole and Ambri were both individually, and together, a force of emotions that would not let me go. Once I started, I could not stop.

#homme from Le-Immorte(l)

I was aghast at the dark force that consumed Ambri and heart broken by the emotional battle that Cole faced. I loved how their relationship developed and slowly unfurled into a thing of absolute beauty. But oh my, how they both were so tortured in their own ways. My heart hurt for them and I found myself desperate for them to reach the point of their happy ever after.

This is a story layered with darkness that is teased at its edges with a hint of light and the promise of happiness. Along the journey there were moments of angst so extreme I was clutching my ereader. Other times I found myself smiling and laughing. And always I was on the edge of tears of despair for these men or tears of joy. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect way to start the new year.

OUTSTANDING is the perfect word to describe the story.
Emma has Outdone herself. An immersive love story that immediately sucks you in its fast spinning vortex of Ill-fated love, an almost forbidden romance of epic proportions. Emma showcases the power of Unconditional love when she makes a demon fall or a mere mortal and makes them thrive.
I'm NOT a fantasy reader, NOR am I MM ROMANCE follower, YET it was an exhilarating ride that left me shaking with sheer wollop of passions that hit me bullseye in my chest. This was truly one of the most well-rounded, complete stories I’ve had the pleasure of reading, with the perfect balance of steam and angst, and absolutely impossible to put down. Emma is a gifted storyteller, her remarkable ability to make readers become one with the characters, to the point where we begin believing in magic and hope for miracles of their union and happiness is unparalleled.

I’d be free from ever wanting the love or affection of another human.” Ambri slid his gaze to me. “And that is how a demon is made.”

description

Ambrosius Edward-Meade Finch Falls for a mere mortal, starving artiste Cole Matheson, and his journey from "This Side", a place he chose under suffrence, to "Other Side Of The Veil" where his other part of soul resides, is what makes this story truely exceptional.

“I am a demon of lust and gluttony. I stoke those sins in humans and drive them to forsake all else. To become enslaved to their own need.”

description

The hapless couple fights against the powerful tsunami of churning sentiments because of their different proximities of existence. It becomes an uphill battle for Ambri. His love burns his surroundings, Coles love soothes his wounds. But they're like fire and water, one can't exist in the presence of another, alas!!

“There can’t be an us, Cole,” he said miserably. “Because there is no me.”

description

The premise is a dark and abysmal world between hell and earth. Demons and servitors crossing over and tormenting humans towards the edge of their sanity, almost pushing some over.
It's almost a behind the scenes looks at what happens when our minds hear voices or loud thoughts, that we humans interpret as signs from above. They're actually from down below. But don't forget, at the nucleus is a tale of never-ending love that will somehow make your toes curl and your skin tingle as your heart grows tenfold.

“I don’t make people do anything. No demon does. We only stoke that which already exists in you. It’s up to you to resist us. To fight back with your power that far exceeds ours if you only believed it.”

description

It led me to moments of closer introspection And soul searching of my own.this book didn't just present me with undying love with a neatly tied HEA, but it pushed me to dwell on certain hard topics. The immeasurable power of eternal love that can span eons and fill bottomless pits. Redeem damned souls from depths of hell literally. Once again Emma has cemented my belief in potency of romance and why I became a reader
An absolute must-read.

Cole must be protected at all costs.

Scratch that, Cole and Ambri both must be protected at all cost. I would throw down with someone over these two most precious humans. Uh, I mean human and demon.

Cole, oh how Cole tugged at all the heartstrings. He deserves all the good and wonderful things in life. And Ambri, well Ambri would probably not appreciate me referring to him as precious, but oh well- he also deserves all the good things in this life that he didn't have in the previous.
These two, man oh man. They'll have you laughing one minute (Ambri with his screw-ups of simple phrases "I feel your stinky eye on me," I say.), and the next you'll be holding back the tears.
Once again Emma Scott has created characters who completely invaded my soul and stole my heart.
The journey she took Cole and Ambri on, and in turn the reader, is one that'll have you rethinking everything you thought you knew about what's on the other side. And believing that love really does conquer all.

If paranormal isn't your thing, I implore you to please give The Muse a chance.

I have to say, I don't know if it's because I read this over Christmas, sitting in the same room as the parentals, but this is the first book of Emma's that didn't leave me a blubbering mess. Of course there were tears, and I'm sure there would have been even more if I had been home alone, but wow. I'm so impressed with myself for getting through this book without tissues galore surrounding me.

When Emma Scott writes a book you can be certain of a few things:

1–you will shed tears
2–you will find beautiful life lessons among the pages
3–your heart and soul will be touched
4–you will fall in love with her characters
5–Love will always win

We first meet Ambri in The Sinner. He was a very memorable character and I was thrilled to learn he would get his own story. Ambri’s past is tragic and heartbreaking. A decision to be saved to the Other Side has left him bitter and resigned to a life devoid of love and belonging. After secretly helping Casziel and Lucy at the end of The Sinner, Ambri’s loyalty is in question. To prove his allegiance to the Other Side, Ambri is told he must destroy the life of a human. He sets his sights on artist Cole Matheson, Lucy’s best friend. He knows this choice with ties to Cas will please Asmodai. What he doesn’t expect is the relationship he forms with Cole. This complicates everything as Ambri tries to deny his developing feelings and avoid the sinister plan he is supposed to be executing.

“Because you’re the other half of my soul…”

The Muse may be filled with demons and all things evil but the message of hope and love transcending the darkness is what shines so vividly in this story. Cole’s goodness and light brings hope to Ambri, something he has never let himself feel. This is a beautiful story of overcoming despair, opening your heart to love, and being seen. There is some very raw and emotional subject matter in this book but it is handled with such care and grace. There is also much humor infused throughout to balance out the difficult subject matter. (Ambri is absolutely hilarious.)

The Muse will make you feel deeply. It shines a glorious light into the dark corners of hopelessness and anguish that life sometimes sends our way. The Muse is a brilliant beacon for those who are lost and searching and courageously come out on the other side.

Oh, this book is clever.

Not only is it a beautiful romance, filled with all the multitude of emotions that drive it, but it also uses a couple of famous historical events to centre its exploration of the demonic doubts and fears which drive people into despair and self-defeating behaviour.

The author's note is profoundly moving (it comes at the end) and that itself also delivers its own message, that of unbelievable loss but also of incredible strength and tenacity.

I didn't read the first in the series as it was an MF romance but I didn't find myself lost at any time. There's a glossary which explains the who's who of the 'Other Side', Emma's version of the space occupied by both the denizens of Hell and also the angels of Heaven.

She uses the trope of the struggling artist to perfection here and in Cole, has created a wonderfully compelling man who legitimately has a heart the size of the ocean just waiting to pour out his love to someone who will treasure it.

Ambri, oh my lord, Ambrosius Edward Meade-Finch is sinful perfection. A demon of want and need who's seen his 'best friend' in so much as a demonic entity can have them, break free of his immortal life and return to the woman he loved and lost centuries earlier.

But that's brought a whole host of pressures on his shoulders, resulting in the need to corrupt a human and drive them into the arms of one of the Dukes of Hell.

With a very deft hand, Emma draws the two together and then lets the narrative unfold as each discovers the small things about the other which leads to feelings developing.

I think the thing I loved most about this book was that I honestly couldn't see how it was going to work out. There seemed to be an obvious way, but then that was canned emphatically and I was racing my way to the end to get satisfaction.

And satisfied I was, more than in fact, because the ending is a brilliant way to draw these two fractured lives together and I was impressed with the use of some dramatic license that felt completely earned.

I'm not sure if there will be any more in this series, but I truly hope writing it helped Emma put some of her own demons into submission.

Emma Scott is one of my favorite authors for a reason. She is a brilliant storyteller, and The Muse is nothing short of a masterpiece. I am not a regular paranormal reader, but The Muse transcends the worlds it introduces us to. I was immersed in the new notions of heaven and hell and the broken demons who carry their human wounds to the other side.

Cole and Ambri had a love for the ages, even though Cole started out as a means to an end. Cole's pure heart and soul got to Ambri, and it was amazing to see him fall so hard for this wonderful man even though he knew the eternal price. My heart broke for Cole and all his struggles, and they both were impossible not to fall in love with.

More than just great romance, this story is for anyone who feels they aren't good enough or has the doubting demons constantly in their ear telling them all the ways they fall short, especially us artists and writers who connect so much to what we create, this love story gives you the courage and hope for your own HEA.

I absolutely could not put this book down. Demon Ambri pursues artist Cole with… let’s say not the best of intentions. (He’s a demon with a job to do. Cut him a break!) Cole’s goodness, vulnerability, and talent evoke something that’s been absent from Ambri’s life for centuries. Against common sense, they fall for each other (while fighting against it all the way). But a trap is already set, and they’re racing headlong into it.

The pacing and development of relationship/chemistry was flawless and natural. The blending of paranormal, current day, and Ambri’s 18th century human life was seamless. I fell into this story and did not want to climb out, even as I saw catastrophe approaching. A true treasure- or should I say Schatz?- of a book.

Five stars. Read in one sitting. I need to read The Sinner and The Muse back to back… ASAP!

Gosh, how I adore this author 🤩. I wish we got more MM from her, but hey, I'll take what I can get, whenever we get it. It's just so good.

It was heartbreaking to read at the end of this about this author losing a loved one, but to know that that loss inspired a lot of this story just makes this story all the more meaningful to me.

I adored Ambri and Cole and they were wonderful together.

Ambri lived in the 1700's, and died a few years before the start of the French revolution. Just before he died, he was visited by a higher up Demon and was offered the chance to become a demon himself, to be young and beautiful forever, and not have to deal with pesky emotions like love.

As Ambri, in his 24 years, has had a tough go of it, to say the least, he jumps at the chance.

200+ years later, and Ambri thinks he's completely content in his demon life and doesn't want to fall in love like Cas, from the previous book did.

Which, I found I could follow this very easily, having not read the first book, so I don't think there's a need to read the first book if you don't want to.

When he's tasked with getting a pure, human soul to be driven to suicide, he chooses Cole, who is Lucy's (MC from the previous book) best friend. He seems halfway there, so Ambri thinks it'll be easy peasy.

Only, he meets Cole and of course, things change.

Because Cole is one of the most genuine and kind, sweet human beings that Ambri has ever met.

And it doesn't take long at all for Ambri's motivations to shift, and for him to keep trying to delay the inevitable.

Because of course, he's falling in love with Cole, as much as he tries to deny it.

Cole, of course, is a smitten kitten. Before Ambri, he was struggling, as he was a starving artist and things weren't working out for him after he graduated. Of course, that led to depression, and with two Twin demons latching onto him and amplifying his thoughts, he is driven close to the brink.

See, in this world, Demons can't kill you, they can't make you do something you don't want. But they can feed off what is already there, and enhance what's already in your head to worrying levels.

That's what Ambri is supposed to do, but he can't. Because Cole starts to make him happier than he's ever been in his demon life or human life before.

Ambri doesn't know how to deal with it, and how he can get out of what he was tasked to do without being tortured for eternity, which is what awaits him if he doesn't drive Cole to suicide.

He buys time by saying he's going to get Cole to the ultimate high before he crashes very low (like Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, etc etc), and becomes Cole's muse, and one of the reasons for Cole's take off to stardom as an artist.

I loved these two. I did give .25 stars off just because I'm greedy and I wanted to the sex scenes to be a little steamier - the were still good, and I still very much enjoyed them, I just...wanted a little more steam is all.

Otherwise, this was perfect and I loved it. Seeing these two grow through some hardship and pain before they get their HEA was wonderful. They made it through and held onto each other, no matter what, to get their HEA, to live their lives together.

I highly recommend this. Definitely worth a read. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future, whenever that may be. I'll be waiting for more 🥰

Audio: 4.5 for Zachary Johnson and 3ish stars for Liam DiCosimo (he’s not a favorite of mine)
Book: DNF @ 25%

I couldn’t get in to this, I tried multiple times but I couldn’t connect with any of the characters.. I feel like I should have read book 1 to get any backstory.. but it said it was a standalone.

I don’t think Liam DiCosimo is a narrator for me. He does good for the main character but the secondary characters aren’t great… his accents weren’t done well.. I am not sure about the hype with him. I have tried another book he narrated one of the Onley James books and that was horrendous haha!

Overall I am bummed, I am not sure if this DNF is because of my mood, or if it just isn’t for me. Emma Scott used to be a go to author for me, but this felt very YA/NA which I don’t read too often anymore..

Bravo, Emma Scott, bravo 👏👏👏

The love story between Ambri and Cole was truly breathtaking! Emma’s writing is simply sublime as she navigates the challenges that lie ahead for these two. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I ached along with them. Their happiness was my happiness. Their despair felt like my despair. What a beautiful journey between two people that transcends time.

My heart is full ❤️

Cole Matheson is the proverbial starving artist until fate begins to propel him in a certain direction. As a purveyor of lust, Ambrosius “Ambi” Edward Meade-Finch uses his unique gifts to his advantage, but his limits are tested.

“You are unraveling me one thread at a time, and it is torture! Bloody dreadful fucking torture!”

Narrated in dual POV, Cole and Ambi are absolutely perfect together, complimentary and completely unified in what they ultimately seek. Throughout, Ambi’s effete yet charming personality had me laughing and endeared him to me. Cole is such a giver and it was so heartwarming. Though I liked how there were tribulations, I was hoping for more of a showdown between certain characters.

The Muse is a about taking a chance on love. This book would appeal to those seeking a touching MM paranormal story.

“Cole Matheson…if only I’d met you in life, things might’ve turned out very differently for me.”

I knew there was something special about Ambri when I first read The Sinner; I’m a sucker for a reformed bad boy, but only Ms. Scott can make me fall for a bad boy before he’s reformed. Still, I didn’t know how she planned to take such a character and turn him into the hero of his own book. And I definitely didn’t expect the hero of said book to also be its villain.

Ambri has evil intentions toward Cole, but despite this, we root for him. Cole’s greatest talent is painting people (or demons) as they really are, and he paints the light he sees in Cole. But Ms. Scott does one better; she writes Ambri so perfectly, his light shines through on every page—even when he’s at his diabolical worst. And with Cole being the epitome of all that is good in the world, it’s only a matter of time before Ambri’s reason for being crumbles. Unfortunately for them both, it’s too little too late, and what follows is a white-knuckled, page turning ride against time and the forces of darkness.

The Muse will surely captivate you with its charm, wit, and swoony characters, but it’s so much more than that. While it may be a love story on the surface, beneath lies a tale of heartbreaking survival and finding hope in the face of overwhelming despair. It’s relatable, inspiring, and its takeaways (of which there are many) are powerful—my favorite being: our demons don’t control us; we control them. Thank you, Ms. Scott, for the reminder.

I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s everything you need right now, entering into a new year. And it’s Emma Scott at her best.

Emma Scott has created a world full of demons, angels and human. Her world makes sense. The demons, angels and the concept of the Other Side is, at the same time, comforting and scary. She portraits demons so well that you can almost feel the gust from their wings.

I loved how Emma explained all the self-doubt, all the critique we have towards ourselves. I admit that this one was a hard book to read, because I have been there, at that bridge. I stood there and stared the deep down. But in this book depression is so well explained, at least parts of it.

I loved Cole, I adored his will to protect even in situations where it seems like impossible task. I loved Ambri and the way he was able to learn to trust again. Because trust is important, is there love without trust? The characters we're over all great, the world is phenomenal, the writing stellar as usual. My feelings while reading were all over the place. My heart broke for both of these men. One of the things I loved in this book how through her writing Emma tells you that you matter and your feelings are valid, but just don't listen too much your demons who try to put you down. Fight back.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.

Ambri and Cole first appear in Emma Scott’s paranormal romance, The Sinner. It is a standalone, but I would highly recommend reading it before The Muse. It will give you a glimpse of these two side characters… and just enough of a tease, to leave you wanting more. And what Emma gave us in The Muse, it was a pure gift.

The Muse is her darkest, most emotional story yet. To bring Cole and Ambri’s story to us, Emma had to reach the very depths of her soul, and journey through her grief. I believe it is her best work. The ability to bring the reader to a visual and emotional place… I am completely awestruck. The Muse is quite simply, extraordinary.

The Muse is heartbreaking. It will gut you. It will test you. There were moments where I had to take a step back, wipe my tears… breathe. Damn, how will I survive?

But you muster on. Because how can you not? Emma is a master storyteller, a teacher. There are always life lessons to be learned in one of her books. And The Muse, you will not want to miss out. 5 stars is not a high enough rating. It deserves the sun and the moon, too. <3

I love Demons and Angels. The whole premise of good and evil, light and darkness, and damnation and salvation is ever present in my world so getting to read stories of these is always filled with hope and redemption in my eyes.

Emma Scott is an author that writes from her heart and soul. The Muse is filled with an abundance of emotion, turmoil, doubt, hopefulness and love. While an evilness swirls within the story, it is always the light and love that wins. Ambri and Cole grabbed my heart and the more I knew of their story and their backgrounds the more I rooted and hoped and prayed that their angels would be working overtime to get them their HEA.

The Muse is a beautiful story that is filled with love, hope and resilience. Nothing in life is easy but with enough faith and determination, good and light will always trumps evil and darkness.

***4,5 "Always and Forever!!!" stars***

"You'll be another death of me..."

Emma Scott had conquered the paranormal world with this series!!!!
I loved the first book, but this one was even better than the Sinner...
This was a paranormal M/M romance with historical splashes that were bound together masterfully.
I love Emma's writing very much... Her stories are emotional and she is approaching all the topics with so much respect that I am amazed by her writing skills!!!
Ambri and Cole were amazing together, even though their story was laced by darkness...

"He came alive on the canvas -a monster whose humanity emanated from every bloodless pore and feather. I painted him as I saw him: a light trapped in darkness."

Cole is at a point to his life that he is struggling... and the voices inside his head are becoming more and more bold and they are demanding of him to sacrifice his own life...
But then, one night a creature came into his dreams and everything changed for him...
That man became his muse and Cole became obsessed with him... He wanted this dark creature and he could see through the despair, the hope that was shining between the cracks...

"His human beauty stirred my blood like no man had in a long time, but his 'demon' form was like a drug I wanted more of."

Ambri was a damned creature... 300 years ago, he couldn't handle his tortured life anymore and he sold his soul to unknown forces...
Now, he is wandering between two worlds while he is seeking his next victim... But his lord is not happy with his betrayal and he is demanding of Ambri to pay with flesh and blood and his new target is Cole Matheson!!!
Cole seemed like an easy target, but Ambri soon will realize that is nothing easy with this man who has the ability to take his breath away and make him crave things that he has no business to want...

"I've made a colossal mistake in choosing Cole Matheson as my target."

Their souls recognized in other the love of their lives, but there was lurking darkness around them that was demanding their damnation...
Can they give up on their insticts and be together or this will be their epic downfall???
I adored this couple so much!!! M/M is not my usual to go genre, but I love the way that Emma Scott delivers her M/M stories!!! They are gut-wrecking and marvellous!!!
I loved seeing the relationship between these two boys to becoming something more... Something intense that came to the surface through the art of painting!!!

"I'll save him and ruin him, both."

If you like paranormal romances and M/M stories, you need to take a chance in this book...
Ambri was arrogant and very intellingent, but love had made him another person.. He was just a man that got hurt very badly in the past and he had lost his way...
Cole was a beautiful creature full of love and energy... He was alone to this world and Ambri gave him hope and a push to chase his dreams...
These two couldn't be more perfect for each other and I enjoyed their story very much!!!
I love this world that Mrs. Scott has created in here and honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to read more stories set to this world... It would be very fascinating to me!!!

"I'd die a thousand deaths for Cole Matheson..."

The Muse was the book I didn't know I needed until I held it in my hands. We were first introduced to Ambri in The Sinner and it was quickly evident that there was a great deal to this character. Since I loved that book, I was obviously excited to hear that Ms. Scott was writing this one. But let me just say that I had no idea how truly emotional this story would be.

Ambri's back story is heartbreaking. The things that happened to him during his human life were atrocious and unimaginable. After learning that, it was easy to see how he fell prey to demons and gave himself over to the darkness when it came for him.

Cole has his own hardships when Ambri first meets him. And being the demon that he is, Ambri doesn't have the best of intentions initially. But when he gets to know Cole, it's life-changing in many ways. He fights the attraction desperately because he believes there's no future between them. Meanwhile, Cole fights to convince him otherwise. And along the way, the two of them do the unthinkable and fall in love. The question is can love truly conquer all?

This book is a beautiful love story about two souls that truly complete one another. They are from two different times but manage to find one another in the most unconventional way. Even more amazing...their love blows away the walls of darkness. As I always tend to do, I like to look for symbolism and there's plenty in this book. For instance, darkness in our daily lives could be many things - - depression, grief, abuse, bullying, and so much more. But love can also be demonstrated in many uplifting and beautiful ways. At the end of the day it all comes down to one thing....caring about one another above all else. Ms. Scott writes with her whole heart and it shows on each page of this book and shines through in her love for these characters. The Muse was definitely a true gift.

The following quote really stuck with me. It's intense, but so was Ambri's love for Cole....

"If you love him, you will die a thousand deaths, burn to ash a thousand times for him. To protect him. To save him."

A beautifully written, emotional, supernatural story of love, sacrifice and redemption, with an amazing m/m romance. I loved this book!

This book follows on from The Sinner . The characters in this book are the respective best friends of the characters from the first book, but it can be read as a standalone. Just beware spoilers for the ending of Book #1.

Ambri is a privileged Englishman from the 1700s who lived a sad and traumatic life before giving himself over to a demon in his final, torturous moments. For hundreds of years he has straddled the human and demonic realms, and now his masters want proof of his loyalty. He is to find a human soul, turn it to despair and hand it over to the dark side. Easy.

Cole Matheson is a gifted artist who cannot get a break. Nothing is going right for him, and he’s starting to question his talent and his worth. Cole is the perfect target for Ambri, he has already hit rock bottom and is questioning where to next when Ambri come into his life, hiring him to paint his portrait. It’s an irresistible offer, which Cole eagerly accepts.

There is a wonderful dynamic between these two. You have Ambri, who is confident, jaded and supremely sarcastic, and Cole who is sweet, kind, and good down to his soul. They ‘click’ effortlessly, and though they share a wild attraction for each other, Ambri is determined to keep his distance, he hasn’t let anybody close to him for centuries, and he’s not about to start now. But as they grow closer, their feelings become impossible to ignore. They fall hopelessly and completely, Cole’s huge heart healing Ambri in ways he never could have dreamed of. It’s a beautifully romantic journey for them, and I loved watching both of the boys so whole-heartedly embrace all that they’re feeling.

But there’s a shadow hanging over them – Ambri had a mission, and hell wants its prize. Can he protect his love? And what will he be willing to sacrifice to get the happy ending he never thought he could have?

OMG, what a rollercoaster of emotions this book is! I was so in love with the romance. Cole and Ambri are amazing together. They laugh and tease, their love is so pure yet so all-consuming, and watching them both heal from their trauma and pain was so, so beautiful!

I thought the supernatural aspect of the story was really well done. It’s a paranormal romance, for sure, but the paranormal stuff is minimal, and this is very much a character story – just with a twist. I thought that Scott’s supernatural world is well developed, and so effortlessly woven into the real world, life, and the challenges that we all face, and the story is well told.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Zachary Johnson and Liam DiCosimo, and they do a fantastic job bringing these characters and their story to life. I definitely recommend listening to this one!

Such a beautiful read – 5 stars.

Love conquers all could truly be the subtitle for this extraordinary book. Emma Scott wrote one of her most poignant stories to date as fan favorite Ambri from her book, The Sinner, finally gets his due. This dark angel is cheeky and all kinds of delicious yet there is a sadness that he has managed to hide all these lonely years since he sold his soul to a powerful demon some 300 years ago. But once a certain starving artist named Cole Masterson becomes Ambri’s latest ‘conquest’ in order to satisfy a debt owed, the long-forgotten hope of being loved is surprisingly back in play as he falls hard for the man he is tasked with destroying.

The kindness Cole bestows upon Ambri happens almost from the time they meet. And the confusion and mistrust Ambri has due to how he was treated when he was a full-blooded human is slowly chipped away as he truly cannot believe how incredible a person Cole is. There is a myriad of emotions that can’t help but be felt as these two can’t seem to forget the other even when they should and I was consumed with every turn of the page enjoying their chemistry they couldn’t contain as it exploded in the most glorious of ways.

As Ambri continues his dictated plan to give Cole the success he has always wanted only to cruelly take it away, I was once again taken aback by not the obvious scenes of passion and wanting between these two vastly different beings, which I must admit is all kinds of electric, but the more tender moments that ultimately took my breath away. The way Cole is able to sketch Ambri, seeing into his very soul and finding the heartache buried deep inside him. The patience he has in wanting and needing to hear about Ambri’s journey from man to beast and the understanding he has of what he has endured. Never wanting to take too much for granted and happily taking the assignment to paint the portrait that Ambri has always deserved, enjoying every moment he could observe his demon exude the man he was always destined to be.

Scott takes the darkness inside Ambri and allows it to find that light was once thought to be extinguished forever in the form of Cole Masterson. Two halves of a whole that took 300 years to meld, I could say their pairing is miraculous but in the end, it’s simply what should always have been.

There is an ethereal feel to The Muse that enraptured my very being and I’m convinced it will do the very same for every reader who picks this book up. Again showcasing the magic Emma Scott creates with her incredible storytelling that is forever a delight from beginning to end.

5+++++ stars!

Writing my review as I read…as you do..

I’m 35% in and I’m epically bored. Cole is a bit of a whiner and is constantly feeling guilty. It gets VERY tiresome. He’s an artist and he feels guilty for receiving money for his work. It’s completely baffling to me. I know the author is trying to make him seem endearing but I keep thinking he’s just super annoying and sad.

Ambri is the demon that supposed to turn him to the dark side but even he is boring. And if I have to read how good looking he is again I may vomit. Ugh. We get it he’s a hot demon. 😵‍💫😵‍💫. AND him using Cole’s full name constantly is also tedious. Why am I still reading this?. I’ll give it another 10%.

I gave it more time. Did it improve? Nope, not even a little bit. I know I’ll probably be the outlier in my review but this book was quite uninteresting. I hoped for more since it IS Emma Scott. Who I usually love.

There were several parts that made zero sense and the end. Meh 😑. I wanted to love their love but it felt like something was missing. I did not connect with these characters at all l. Look at my highlights (more like lowlights )😣😣will tell you why this book fell flat for me.

This. Book. I don't even know where to start.

Cole is a struggling artist, a painter whose self-doubt has him on the verge of giving up until a visit from a beautiful demon changes everything. Ambri surrendered to the underworld centuries ago, but now his loyalty is being tested. He must bring a pure soul to the underworld and he finds the perfect specimen in Cole.

Cole finds his muse in Ambri; and after centuries of being abandoned, Ambri finds a soul deep love with Cole. They both find what they need in each other, but the dark forces of the Other Side were promised a soul. If Ambri doesn't deliver, then they'll come to get it themselves.

Now, I read a lot of books and a variety of authors. I've read some amazing authors, but there are some writers who are just more and Emma Scott is one of those. From her imagination and the worlds that she creates to the imagery and the emotion that she pens on the page, it's all just so much MORE. This story is more than a paranormal fantasy. The demons portrayed in this book aren't just fictional figments of a writer's imagination, but they're the demons that plague each and every one of us with thoughts of failure and grief and insecurity. This story isn't just a love story but also a story of survival. It's a testimony to the human spirit and the will to fight. These characters will grab hold of your heart and won't let go. My heart ached for Cole and Ambri. They made me smile, made me laugh, made me cry. So many feelings with this one!

The Muse is book 2 in the Angels and Demons series but it can be read as a standalone. If you've read the first book, The Sinner, then you'll see those characters again here and this story will be all the more meaningful because of that. This is the first book that I've read in 2023 and it's setting a pretty high bar. I already think that this could be a contender for a top read of the year.

Emma Scott has gifted us with yet another unique, HEART-STOPPING and UNFORGETTABLE love story! Ambri and Cole will leave you BREATHLESS, but in the best possible way! Filled with intense emotions, the plot for this second book in the Angels and Demons series sent me reeling through those emotions at an astonishing pace! I simply could not get enough and I didn't want this one to end....but the end left me completely and utterly satisfied, but still wanting MORE (as all the BEST books do!) I won't get into the story too much because you MUST go into this one as blind as possible (you really don't need to read book 1, The Sinner, before this one, but it DOES tie together very closely and you meet Ambri there...and if you're like me, he scared the living you-know-what outa me but I was FASCINATED at the same time!)

Ms. Scott has delivered yet another STELLAR, deeply EMOTIONAL, sometimes HEARTACHINGLY beautiful story and I don't know HOW any other book can top this one on my TOP READS of 2023!!! This being the first book I've read so far, that's a very high bar to top! Thank you, Emma, for always being you!
