The Pandemic and the Digitalization

2021 is no exception, since Covid-19 is still going strong and digitalization is still very much present, being considered the essential maxim for a business to survive.

In fact, the pandemic has accelerated the digitization process, making the need for it clear to all companies. All sectors felt compelled to reassess the situation, make changes and seek solutions with the aim of protecting not only businesses, but employees from existing digital threats. “Pandemic has led 30% of companies in Portugal to accelerate the digitization and automation plans”, according to the study “Skills Revolution Reboot: the three R’s – Renew, Requalify, Redistribute“, by ManpowerGroup.

The process of technological transformation, once seen as a lengthy path, had to be implemented in the shortest possible time, in order to support teleworking. “We made a technological leap in two months equivalent to what we expected in two years”, confirms Paula Panarra, general manager at Microsoft Portugal. However, many of the organizations were not prepared for these profound changes.

A study presented by Xerox, “Future of Work, demonstrates the biggest technological challenges experienced in the last year, both globally and nationally:

  • Difficulty in remote IT support;
  • Inadequate workflow solutions;
  • Absence of communication and collaboration tools;
  • Absence of cloud-based solutions.

Although there is a progressive return to the workplace, doubts remain regarding the way of operating, mainly because there is still a reality of hybrid work, that is, in a mix of remote and face-to-face work. However, the key point where everyone converges is the need for an IT infrastructure, safe and connected, with cloud, collaboration tools and technological solutions adapted to the workplace. In this way, it is feasible to carry out the work in any location, without this having an impact on productivity and information security.

The pandemic period experienced, made the majority of small and medium-sized companies to postpone technological innovation, according to the president of ISEC, Mário Velindro, clarifies to RTP. In the same vein, the Academy of Advanced Studies says that in order to have a stable recovery of the economy, in the post-pandemic period, companies undoubtedly need to reorganize themselves and, in this process, it is crucial to resort to technological consulting services. By using these services, companies are empowering the organization as a whole, increasing productivity and, consequently, results.

In turn, large companies are those that intend to digitize themselves, passing not only through the productive part, but also through the other areas and departments, such as production, logistics, administrative, commercial, human resources, among others. In addition, one of the great advantages of automation is the saving of working hours. According to the report “Trends in Workflow Automation”, carried out by Salesforce, 75% of the companies that accelerated the automation process, saved about four hours per week of 40 hours of work.

The technology, if used efficiently and intelligently, adjusted to the objectives that it is intended to achieve, allows to increase the competitiveness of the companies in the market, to make them more efficient in the analysis of data and more intelligent in the way of relating with the customer.
