#Build a Secondary Campus for the Northern School for Autism
#Build a Secondary Campus for the Northern School for Autism
Why this petition matters
We are a group of parents whose children attend Northern School for Autism (NSA)- Lalor Campus. Our mission is to obtain commitment from The Department of Education and James Merlino to allocate funding asap to build a Secondary Campus.
Our Lalor campus is of an unacceptable substandard level compared to the mainstream secondary schools in our local area. Our students have been discriminated against and treated like second class citizens. How would you feel if your child wasn't afforded the same resources and opportunities as their peers? Many of us have other children in secondary mainstream settings, we have conducted research comparing local schools to Northern School for Autism.
Here is a list of our staggering results.
Our current deficits:
- no green spaces
- no areas to play outdoor sport
- no library
- no gym
- no science/stem room
- no music/drama/performance spaces
- No classroom for Food Technology/health Lessons (kitchen)
- no room to conduct speech/occupational therapy sessions
- no art room and more.
The 2021 Budget has excluded our students at Northern School for Autism, Lalor Campus, allocating NO funds! Our students only have a set of drawings for future planning! Every secondary school in the local area have received a commitment of funds. Why didn't Northern School for Autism, Lalor campus receive funds? Do our children come second to those in mainstream schools?
We are demanding for a commitment from the State Government, James Merlino and Department of Education to allocate funds to begin planning for our Lalor Campus. We are demanding that our students are afforded the very basic resources and opportunities as their peers. Please sign our petition and help support our children.
