Here are companies that took on the challenges of 2020 head on and not only survived, but thrived.

The Fast 100 is out.

The San Francisco Business Times publishes our ranking of the region’s fastest-growing private companies annually, but this year's list is just a little more special. The 2021 Fast 100 cohort epitomizes the perseverance of Bay Area companies to thrive and adapt amid a challenging economic climate marked a pandemic and widespread closures and business restrictions.

The pandemic did not slow down these companies’ progress. Far beyond surviving, many were able to find new ways to grow their business and expand into new markets. As the pandemic forced a widespread adoption of digital tools, the Bay Area’s status as a center of innovation and technological advancement meant that many of these companies were poised to enable their future.

Check out our slideshow below to learn more about these 100 thriving companies and see their growth rates from 2018 to 2020.

Meet our fastest growing private companies in the Bay Area class of 2021.

Companies that appear on this year’s List were ranked according to their percentage of revenue growth between 2018 and 2020. To qualify, they had to be an independent, privately held corporation, proprietorship or partnership (not a subsidiary or a division) through fiscal year 2020 and be headquartered in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo or Marin county.

They had to disclose three years of sales history (for fiscal years 2018, 2019, 2020). They also had to have been in business throughout fiscal year 2018 (founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2018) and have revenue of more than $200,000 in fiscal year 2018.

The industries covered on the List include everything from tech, food and veterinary care to real estate, public relations and e-commerce.
