Citi’s Russia equities head departs for brokerage BCS Global Markets

Alexei Bolshakov joins BCS Global Markets as global head of equities after nine years with investment bank Citi.

The head of Russia equities at US investment bank Citi has departed to join Russian brokerage BCS Global Markets to lead its global equities business.

Alexei Bolshakov has been appointed global head of equities at BCS Global Markets and will be responsible for managing the institution’s equity teams across all entities.

Bolshakov brings with him more than 13 years of experience working in equity capital markets, including nine years with Citi where he was most recently head of Russia equities.

Prior to Citi, he spent three years at Deutsche Bank as director of equity sales and sales trading where he worked closely with investment funds across the globe.

“Alexei has a proven track record in the international equity arena, and we are certain that the wealth of experience and knowledge he has accrued throughout his successful career will prove invaluable to BCS GM and its standing as Russia’s largest independent broker,” said BCS Global Markets co-chief executive, Safonov.

“Having worked across multiple jurisdictions, Alexei’s understanding of specific markets will be invaluable in bolstering BCS GM’s cross-border solutions and services for our clients.”

Bolshakov will report directly to Safonov and will be based in Moscow.

Safonov joined BCS Global Markets in January this year after departing investment bank HSBC where he was formerly head of local rates and credit trading. Safonov oversees the markets and investment banking operations at BCS Global in Moscow, London, New York, and Cyprus.
